Looking for an RPG to play.

I finished Ys VI last night, that game was fantastic. It really made me miss simpler gaming times.

You NEED to get Oath in Felghana then. It's even better and features the best soundtrack in the series (Ys III and IV have always been my favorites, but having NEW mixes of Ys III music used IN GAME is just...incredible). Totally rockin' game!

Think there's a snowball's chance of it coming out in America? You're in Japan, right?

I've drooled over it for a while now.

I played through Book I and II WAAAY back in the day on TurboDuo, and Wanderers from Ys III on SNES. That III remake looks completely awesome too. Wait-is that Oath in Felghana? I thought Oath was IV. Now I'm confused. :lol

Oath in Felghana is a remake of Ys III, basically. As III was considered the "black sheep" of the series due to its side scrolling design, I suppose they decided to take another shot at it. The game is based on Ys III, but is very different overall (and much better).

I doubt it will ever show up in the US as a result of Ys VI's failure. :\ You should still consider grabbing it anyways. As a PC game, there is no region encoding...so you could easily play it.

I assume it's all in Japanese, though. I only know a little. Are there walkthroughs for it? Is it playably at all without knowing Japanese

It should be pretty playable, I'd say. Occasionally, you might not know where to go next, but it should not be too hard to find with some poking around. I don't know if there are any walkthroughs, though...but if there aren't, I'm sure someone will throw one up soon enough.

Once you hit the "dungeons", though, you'll likely have no trouble at all.

Shadow Hearts = Traditionalish RPG

Vandal Hearts = Strategy RPG

Kingdom Hearts = Action RPG

I'm sure there's another one like Dual Hearts that's just a crappy RPG.

Why did Shadow Hearts get a 5.5 from IGN, and SH2 a 9.1?

Shadow Hearts feels very very dated (like PSOne game...which it started life as).

SH2 is a massive leap over the original in every way and ends up feeling rather different overall.

Good news? Works with HDLoader. I don't remember what the load times were before, but now there are none at all.

Bad news? I forgot how atrocious the VA is.

not to feed into the GAF hype Shadow Hearts II is good... the 3rd one comes out here in Japan next month
