Looking for high-quality light earphones (not buds)

Hey there. Coming to the conclusion (perhaps a little too late) that Apple headphones have terrible build/audio quality, so I'm looking for quality wired earphones (not buds) that I can fit in my pocket and that I can use while to work out/go running.

I'm asking gaf as I don't have much knowledge when it comes to audio devices.

As far as price goes, let's say anything under $50.

For running, I use the MEElectronics M6. Inexpensive, decent enough sound quality for the price, and stays secure on my ears. I put Comply tips on them for extra comfort.

MEElectronics M6 (Basic)
MEElectronics M6 Pro
compatible Comply tips

I use Smile Amazon to donate to charity, so those links might look like referrals. You can just do an Amazon search for those products if you want.

We also have a Headphone OT (also covers IEMs) with some very helpful posters: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1029724

Check out Sennheiser HD202 headphones.

Best cheap headphones I've ever owned. Lasted me 5 years and that's only because I gave them away.

These are buds

These are buds

They are IEMs. You insert them into your ear and make sure they have a good seal.

Earbuds look like this, and don't form a seal.

Thanks for the recommendations so far. I'd love to use buds, but they feel so uncomfortable and never seem to fit regardless of the size.

Unfortunately they are the overwhelming majority of small, light earphones these days.

With IEMs, you can get different size tips that may help with the comfort. But if you definitely don't want to put anything into your ear, then I'd say go with the Koss KSC-75 or even PortaPros.

Honestly the apple buds are the best buds I have encountered. If you want better you have to go to IEMs or traditional over the ear style. I would also love apple style buds, but better. IEMs are no good for running imo, I need to be able to hear shit and don't want isolation. And you can't fall asleep with IEMs in either.

That's true. With my M6 setup, I use slightly larger than necessary tips so I can't form a good seal in order to still hear my environment.

I'm looking into purchasing a pair also. As my earphones have an increased risk of causing tinnitus, even though I use them at a low volume. Headphones have a much lower risk, so I'm changing my ways.

I also hate the feeling of ear buds and have a pair of Koss PortaPros that do the job. Good quality, light, comfortable, under 50 bucks. Would get those over the KSC-75's personally, even if it's not a great fit for pockets.

Portapros are awesome. Used them for years before I switched to something that blocks the sound on the subway a little better. And they fold up pretty small, so they could potentially fit in a big pocket if need be.
