Looks Like There's Going to Be a New Lollipop Chainsaw Game

A sequel to cult PS3 character action game Lollipop Chainsaw looks likely.

Dragami Games, the developer behind the original's RePop remaster on PS5, has signed a deal with Taiwan-based investment firm Nada Holdings to jointly develop "multiple new projects" in the franchise.

Shohei Sato, the dev's president, revealed the following in a statement:
"Thirteen years ago, our original development team poured immense passion and creativity into creating Lollipop Chainsaw. Since then, the game has continued to receive tremendous support and love from fans. We are deeply grateful for this, and it moves us profoundly. To further expand the title and meet the expectations of our fans, Dragami Games has made the important decision to move forward with a new phase of IP development for Lollipop Chainsaw."
Nada Holdings' Joe Teng added that his company is committed to supporting Dragami Games across "a wide range of new products".

Dragami Games was formed in 2022 after being divested from Kadokawa, bringing intellectual property like Lollipop Chainsaw with it.

But remake RePop didn't put its best foot forward, launching in a sloppy and unfinished state on the PS5.

As we pointed out in our 6/10 Lollipop Chainsaw RePop PS5 review:
"Lollipop Chainsaw is still a laugh out loud affair; a raucous and utterly ludicrous release that deserves to exist on modern hardware. But when the source material is this brilliant, it deserves an exceptional remaster – rather than one that's just good enough."
Subsequent patches and updates have improved the title since, and it's probably worth picking up at this point.
We hope that any subsequent sequels are handled with a little more care.

Wow I never knew about the screenshot there. I'm just finding out now. Wow.

Just wishlisted repop. Lemme grab my Ghosts of Yotai popcorn bucket and see how things play out.

A team who was paid to remaster a title is now taking over the franchise itself...without Suda?

I was curious who would try to do something like this first, and my money was on Konami with Virtuous and Metal Gear Solid. Seems I was off in my prediction.

Nice. Hopefully, they'll stay faithful to the crazy tone and premise of the original. Perhaps, add a pseudo original 90's rock inspired soundtrack, or somehting, if the sequel becomes a thing. Tap some indie rock bands who can mimic the tune from that era to lessen the expenses.

Majority of the team that worked on the Remaster was the original dev team and producer.
Who also worked on the majority of Sudas games including Killer is Dead.
While you're right, Suda51 alone isn't gonna cut it.
James Gunn is as much creditable as he is.
Whether they need them to make a sequel is another thing.

This is somewhat good news.

Not sure what this means. Tomo Ikeda and Suda were the ones with the vision behind this game.

Unlike some here, I don't like it when games fail and I don't want to see them fail. I'm just a bit worried about them going forward with this I.P. over a new one. The raunchy part of this game was only one aspect of it which is easy to double down on for a sequel, but it's the other parts that I'm hoping they can nail.

I'll have the same exact feelings the day Konami decides to stop dancing around the idea of a Metal Gear sequel, because everyone knows that they are itching to greenlight one but are scared to at the same time.

Oh I agree, and getting the original cast back is going to be another job and if they can they could probably improvise on the script a bit as I'm sure they understand the characters.
And that's the only thing I'm worried about.
