Lords of the Fallen |OT| We don't praise the sun around here

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Got 17 hours of gameplay in today. Game is the glitchiest game I've ever played (and I've played every Bethesda game out there) but it's so amazingly fun.

I mean, it's REALLY fun!'

Wow, watching this DSP guy... game looks great and fun and he goes "one of the worst fucking games I've ever played in my life".

I'll probably have to check this game out. Looks like it'll suit my tastes better than dark souls simply because of better movement.

Did he ever play The Evil Within? I'd hate to hear what he'd say about that lol.

How do I lower that thing down? I posted earlier but I really have no idea what to do. I checked every possible area and it all lead to dead ends. One led to a lever that pulled something down, the other has a locked door from the other side, and the last place is that platform that's out of reach.

There's another lever you need to pull on the other side of the Chamber of Lies. You need to leave and find the other entrance where the Infiltrator was to access that side of it.

Hmm, I guess I got really lucky with my PC setup lol.

The biggest glitch that happened to me was
in the catacombs when you have to choose between two guys to save, I wasn't ready to make my decision so I went to explore more, but accidentally opened the door right by where they are which loads to a new area. When I came back, they were both dead. Hours later, at the save point above the observatory I see a guy standing there, so I go to talk to him. Then I realize it was one of those guys! He says thanks for saving me instead of that other wimp. Then I look closer, and I see the other guy standing in the same place LOL. So they're both just standing there in the same spot, I could only talk to one though. I then decide to go back and check the cells they were in, and they were both in their cells! One was dead, one was alive lmao. I was mad that I didn't get to do that quest at first, but that bug was worth it haha.

but yeah, it really is fun man. I'm ready to start this new game+, but
I want to get the first bosses special weapon and I keep getting hit so I have to restart :/

I want to start NG+ so bad but I want to find out the purpose of the weapon hilt and 2 locked doors in the Chamber of Lies before I start it. I'm almost convinced the 2 doors are NG+ only, and no idea on the weapon hilt. I might just start a NG with the cleric and warrior for the trophies, but I wonder if doing NG+ with another skill tree would unlock those trophies even though it wouldn't really make much sense.

zang! do you know these?

questions about secrets and hidden shit!

-
in the very first room of the game there is a alcove above that leads to a locked door, how do you open that?

-
also in the tutorial area, when you break the wall and go to the spider area, there are 2 locked doors. 1 was open with a pressure plate, what about the second?

theres more shit but thats all I remember from my recent session :)

2 more locked doors, any idea?

-
on the planitarium, right before reaching the old man and the the king guy

- on the way to the
graveyard, there is a locked door that leads to a path down bellow, you can see monsters down there. there is one of those jumpy guys in front of the door, and a checkpoint nearby

1.
I think the Northern Monastery Key opens that. It's found after the first boss behind a statue in the center of the spiral staircase. You have to jump to it.

2.
You get the key for that door near the end of the game. It's called the "Cellar Key".

Facing inside the room, go left to find a path ends with a pressure plate. You need to use prayer there and sprint to the door to make it.

2.
You get the key for this at the same time as the Cellar Key.

wow this game has some of the worst level design I've ever seen once you get about 7 bosses in. Terrible. It's like the designers purposely went out of their way to not make it clear what you're supposed to do to proceed.

The other thing that's downright terrible are the closed doors that you have to sit through a loading screen when you go through. Then once you're through, the enemies in the previous area respawn all over again. It's not seamless.

At least in Dark Souls, if you pulled a lever, the camera would show you what the lever does. In this game, you pull levers just cause you can and likely have to. No idea what they do half the time.

And holy crap does every area look the same. Every corridor is recycled and numerous with tiny mazes. I've found myself thinking what the hell is the purpose of all these dead ends and little nooks everywhere? It's like the level design was randomly made and then artists just put filler artwork to fill them in with something. Nothing feels like it has any history. It just feels like cut-n-paste oblivion dungeons. Every single screenshot from Dark souls 1 or 2, or Demons' Souls I can tell you exactly right where that was taken. This game? NOPE.

Then there's the boring enemies you can't dodge around and out-maneuver who most turtle behind shields and only have 2 move sets - back away with shield up, then walk towards you with shield up, swing, then repeat.....Fighting common enemies isn't fun, it's just annoying

Hm that's the entrance that I took, the infiltrator side. Where's the other entrance?

Think I got it, went back to fight the boss and I see a seal I can break.

Sorry, I really don't remember specific pieces of equipment too well, so I can't really help with that one. :/

There's 3 entrances. One is right after the boss fight in the center, I don't remember his name, but he's the one with the fireballs. There is another I believe in the area that brings you to the Infiltrator's arena, but I don't remember specifically where. The last one is past the Infiltrator's arena where the woman asks you to go to help her with her side quest. That's probably the one you need to take.

Are the Catacombs everyone is referring to that area past the door in the Graveyard where you fight the boss?

I went in there looking for some heavy armor someone talked about and kept getting my ass handed to me. Lost about 3,000 EXP and said fuck it.

Lords of the Fallen: Prepare to Crash edition

Even at 720p - 720p! - I'm getting memory leaks with my 770 2GB.

This makes the game harder than any Souls. I'd rather fight Darklurker melee again

You must have just done it late, because I ended up with that key on my second game before even exiting the Monastery. It doesn't even unlock anything special, just a save crystal and some other low level random object in the room.

It sounds like Rhaknar is talking about the area where you get the
Shard of Heroes
, which BTW has a secret effect if you use it during the 2nd boss fight. You can still use it at any time after if you missed it during the battle, but you won't get its secondary use.
If you go touch any of the
respec statues, depending on which one you used the shard on, the boss will destroy it at some point during the fight. After the fight ends, you end up with a ridiculously powerful weapon for your level.

Started a new game, and I decided to try out a pure Faith build. Was my original start, but it was sucking, so I just started over and finished the game as a STR build. Anyway, got my hands on Crashfinger. Hurray, reproducable crash 50% of the time when using R2. Too bad faith based weapons are so damn rare, and they are mostly garbage. The best early game weapon you can't even really use to its full potential either.

Also, a question about leveling up: I'm level 23, and I'm barely using Magic. All these reviewers talking about magic being so OP, but it takes a lot to unlock it! First, I have to get my FTH up to 15 to use my best spell, and unlock all these other spells first. But I had to use a bunch of levels to get medium roll with heavy armor and strength enough to use Persistence. Right now, I'd like to level up my HP more and my energy, but I want to start using magic more. Thoughts?

I have yet to socket my gauntlet with good gems, but FTH doesn't seem to make the gauntlet damage scale, unlike what the loading screen says. It might with a rune, but it's not right now. Also, the "spells" in this game are mostly shit and really depend on the class you're using. FTH seems to be the last stat that benefits from these spells, even if it scales the damage of Ram, Stab and Quake.

edit: Okay, Poison seems to really suck for the most part in the gauntlet, regardless of your FTH, but Fire really does a lot of damage. No idea how a Power Rune will do, but a Flawless Fire Rune is pretty ridiculous in the projectile slot.

Prayer - seldomly useful for anything other than pressure plates. It's okay extremely early as a decoy, but it won't do anything on boss fights after the second boss, and the regen it provides is negligible.

Shelter - this is the spell a lot of people go gaga over, but it honestly seems like the best build to put it on is a STR build. FTH build really has no use for it outside of the health regen it gives (which seems to be a bug). It's supposed to give you damage reduction and some reflection, but both of those are barely noticeable effects. The worst thing about it though is that it is one of the slowest spells to cast, so you need to be a really great distance away from anything if you want it to go off in time.

Ram/Stab - your "projectile" magic that at 3/3 can either one-shot a lot of trash enemies, or knock them down so that you can finish them off. Situationally good, but not good on bosses.

Punishment - eh, it's "okay". Another really situational spell that's mostly good on the annoying shielded enemies because as soon as they attack you, they get stunned. I have yet to be able to riposte or backstab during the stun, and it seems like the best you get is a single attack.

Rage - probably the best all around spell, but it's also probably best used for STR builds since they already do a lot of damage per swing, but many of the weapons are energy hogs. This lets you mash R2 for a bit if you're in a situation where you are not going to be interrupted out of your hits.

Quake - some like this, but if you're focusing on STR, you aren't going to really have enough mana or regen to be casting spells all of the time. You already hit really hard when going two handed-anyway, and later you can combo a lot of things to death rapidly one-handed. The startup and range on this seem too weak to be useful, and it's no good on bosses either. I'm not really sure if this would be good or not on a FTH build. The rest of the spells are just kind of garbage for FTH

Mimic - haven't had a chance to use it with my current build but it doesn't seem like it's any good at all for a FTH build, and is yet another STR type spell, or even AGI type.

Shift - just looks like another version of Ram/Stab to me. Even if it gives your single attack a huge multiplier, it seems like again this would be best on a STR build (two-handed attack).

The main reason the "spells" suck if you're trying to play a caster type is because they are all tied together on the same fucking cooldown. So even if you have a huge mana pool, too bad. You're only casting one spell and all that mana is just for the gauntlet. The spells might actually be on "school" cooldowns, which means NG+ might allow for more than one spell at a time, but you can't do that on your first playthrough.

Sanct what was that great sword that acted like a medium sword again?

Justice, which you get in the Chamber of Lies. The sword you get after that's slightly better with almost the same moveset is called Tribute.

I don't remember calling it a greatsword. I mentioned it being like the middle-ground between a Longsword and the Claymore from Dark Souls with the moveset and speed. It does a hell of a lot more damage than just a typical "sword" too. Before grabbing that weapon I was using three flawless luck runes in My Axe. The axe did a lot more damage per hit, but was ultra slow and ate a ton of energy. Justice was over twice as fast, ate less than half the energy per swing and overall could rack up more damage in less time.

10 hours in and loving it so far.

Had a rough start, IQ and performance on PS4 is not on par with the power houses out there. But if you handled the performance of console Souls games, you can handle this for sure.

What I like most is that it gives me that mysterious layer upon layer feeling I get from Souls games WHILE giving me the chance to just relax and not tense up.

It's easier and more forgiving, yes, but there's a place for this game and I'm happy to be there.

And, well, they sure got that connected world thingy right, much more than DkS2.

No, just ignore that text. It's just another unfinished/vague dialogue text. It's basically another "put runes into my shit" option, and it doesn't force you to do anything no matter which you pick until you actually force it into a slot just like every other rune.

In Lords of the Fallen, the aberration is sometimes absurd to the point that it feels as if we were meant to don a pair of anaglyph 3D glasses.

Completely. Very first thing I thought of when I saw that ugly shit, and I shut off post-processing after five minutes.

I do think it matters. Got playthrough one under the belt and chose to give the shard to the smith. Now both realms are in "balance" after final boss. The other two options seem to be to let either the human side win or the demon side.

Gonna ask this once more, because it's really bugging me: the quest giver who should give the quest to find the signs of Antanas at the beginning of the game doesn't seem to spawn here. Do you have to do something in particular to spawn that masked monk?

You didn't run into crashes on the PC version? I ended up getting it on PS4, because people were talking about crashes on PC, but it seems that was a mistake.
Originally, yes, but with the most recent patch I haven't had any issues. No weird memory leaks or anything like that either.

If you haven't figured it out yet, there's an item you need to break to keep him from regenerating his health. He "connects" to it with that beam you should see coming from him, the item should be up a set of stairs I believe and it looks like a little pot or something.

Keep this in mind because you'll come across a similar enemy a little later in the game and the item you need to smash is a little farther away.
