Catching Hurley on the TV was a trip. Gotta wonder what his deal is.
The kid burning the raft.... did not see that coming. Fell hook line and sinker for Locke being responsible.
It was 1am; I had just come up to comment on this and then fall asleep...and then I saw the comments about Hurley. And then I went downstairs to watch the tape again...and lo and behold. I wonder if anyone will translate the Korean...anyone who finds it, feel free to spoiler tag it. I don't want to know, but many likely will.
Also, ditto on Walt's burnage of the raftage. I mean, they had us fooled. They showed Locke right when it began burning. We've been led to believe he wants to keep them there for some ungodly reason, and we have every suspicion that he knocked out Sayid when they were attempting to triangulate the distress signal. So, he was the obvious choice...and then it was the kid. That threw me...there was no clue that it was him, at all. Minutes earlier he had been all excited about building a new raft...but not because he wanted to leave, but because he wanted to spend time with his father. That's just great writing on their part, here.
For those looking for answers...they will have to end the season with answers. Character moments will only get the show so far this Season...after that point, there will be a huge finale. It'll be a huge ass cliffhanger, with a huge revelation, and leave us wondering where they'll go from here, ala Alias Season Two. They have all sorts of options...they can cut out the back stories altogether, they can kill off some characters and replace them with some of the lesser people and give their back stories, they could also continue on with the current backstories. This is a show with no predictable ending to the first season, no predictable pattern for the second, and no real knowledge of how far they can stretch this. I have every faith in Abrams to continue the series as long as it remains entertaining.
On that note? The ending fucking kicked ass. They had done that before, with Hurley and the CD Player, and to show the reality of the batteries running out is so perfect. He has been little but a sidekick thus far, and I think this signals his move from sideliner to headliner. He's no longer the go-to guy for cheesy musical montages; he is now a full-blown castaway. Can't wait for next week; didn't see the preview, so here's hoping for some awesome stuff...and as short a break as possible after next week. Because Alias is going to need all the lead-in help in can get facing off against Idol.
