Tonight's TV Guide description has a pretty big spoiler:

"... In Translation" Michael and Jin's mutual contempt escalates when Michael accuses Jin of burning down the raft the survivors had been building...

Looking forward to having that character explored in more detail tonight.

I want my freaking Hurley episode already.

But I'll settle for Jin. Not reading that TV Guide description as I would rather see what happens first hand, but hopefully some things start to get resolved. I was looking over at TV Tome and noticed there are only a handfull of episodes left for this season, and while I have enjoyed the intrigue as much as anyone, I'm ready for some definate answers.

Next week we get the Hurley episode, and I believe a week after we start getting some answers.

Wasn't this supposed to originally be a one year series!? If there are only a few episodes left they have some serious explaining to do! :(

The "mystery" monster/dinosaur/robot hasn't been on in forever, and we really don't know anything more about it than we did the 2nd week.

That's some pretty smooth buildup to the next episode. It will make sense when you learn about Hurley.

I wasn't paying attention to what was on the TV, I missed it.

Couldn't tell if he was dodging the camera... he was on tv, when the little girl was watching when Jin first came to deliver the message to the guy.

I keep getting the feeling that Jin knows english too... hopefully it's not going to end up that way.

Didn't see the TV either. Damn!

Anyway, I think this'll be a mutli-season series. Its obvious this first "season" is meant to explore *these* characters and their backgrounds. I expect we will get a few answers at the end of this season, but it'll be a set up for next year when I'm sure they'll start delving into the actual mysteries of the island and perhaps interact more with the other people who live there. Perhaps we will even get the stories of these other mysterious people, as well.

Hmmm....Hurley says he was a "Warrior" of some sort, too. It seems as though he may have been in Korea, as well, considering his presence on the TV. And Hurley isn't his real name.

I know I'm probably far off, but I can only imagine him being a grandmaster in the Korean StarCraft circuit!

During the Korean flashback, Hurley was on TV?

That would be funny as hell, does Korea have sumo wrestlers? :)

Can't wait for next weeks episode.

actually that wouldn't sruprise me. I've always speculated that Hurley was a computer hacker that got in over his head so now he was on the run. Something like StarCraft champ would be similar (computer geek).

Did anyone think the end of the episode was really sad, it showed a bunch of new relationships and such and then Hurley all alone.

Excellent episode. I loved the ending... kinda sad actually.

Thanks for elaborating :). I was too lazy/busy at the time to say that.

Good episode. I totally missed Hurley on the TV - glad I came here to find out!

Yeah, I also have to wonder if
Jin also knows English, especially if he'd at least considered ditching the company and moving to the USA or Australia
.

And Locke is as creepy as ever :p.
I can't imagine that his influence wasn't a factor in Walt burning the raft. It's interesting to see that Locke trying to help out Shannon as well as Boone - he's not picking sides.

They showed
Hurley on the TV atleast twice. The first time he was getting into a car, and didn't seem to be really avoiding the cameras. The second shot Hurley was driving, and that time he was avoiding the camera in the car (putting his hand over the lens).

I was hoping that Jin would
bust out his hitman skills and give Sawyer a beat down while he had his hands bound
but I guess
Jin doesn't have any crazy hitman skills, since all he has apparently done is beaten up an old administrator. I am glad Jin didnt reveal that he too knows english, though he seems to be picking it up.

I didn't get to see the scenes for next week..can someone summarize them for me?

I thought it was pretty clear
that he does know english, by the way he stopped when his wife said "I almost left you" in english, she also said a few lines and it was pretty clear he understood

A party's put together to go exploring the jungle with Jack, Charlie, Hurley, and possibly some other people (I don't remember). Charlie is walking across a rope bridge when it collapses. There's an explosion or fire of some sort. Someone (we can't see who) points a gun at Hurley.

Oh yeah, forgot about that....he might have just stopped though cause
she talked to him in english, not because of what she said, but just because she switched to english....and it sorta cemented in him that he can't trust her or whatever the hell. I kinda took the scene on the beach before the fight when everyone started talking gibberish, and it kept zooming in on in's ear to make it pretty clear Jin couldnt tell what was being said, but had a general understanding of what was going on just by the way people were speaking, thier tone of voice, ect.

edit: thanks Greenpanda!

Catching Hurley on the TV was a trip. Gotta wonder what his deal is.

The kid burning the raft.... did not see that coming. Fell hook line and sinker for Locke being responsible.

It was 1am; I had just come up to comment on this and then fall asleep...and then I saw the comments about Hurley. And then I went downstairs to watch the tape again...and lo and behold. I wonder if anyone will translate the Korean...anyone who finds it, feel free to spoiler tag it. I don't want to know, but many likely will.

Also, ditto on Walt's burnage of the raftage. I mean, they had us fooled. They showed Locke right when it began burning. We've been led to believe he wants to keep them there for some ungodly reason, and we have every suspicion that he knocked out Sayid when they were attempting to triangulate the distress signal. So, he was the obvious choice...and then it was the kid. That threw me...there was no clue that it was him, at all. Minutes earlier he had been all excited about building a new raft...but not because he wanted to leave, but because he wanted to spend time with his father. That's just great writing on their part, here.

For those looking for answers...they will have to end the season with answers. Character moments will only get the show so far this Season...after that point, there will be a huge finale. It'll be a huge ass cliffhanger, with a huge revelation, and leave us wondering where they'll go from here, ala Alias Season Two. They have all sorts of options...they can cut out the back stories altogether, they can kill off some characters and replace them with some of the lesser people and give their back stories, they could also continue on with the current backstories. This is a show with no predictable ending to the first season, no predictable pattern for the second, and no real knowledge of how far they can stretch this. I have every faith in Abrams to continue the series as long as it remains entertaining.

On that note? The ending fucking kicked ass. They had done that before, with Hurley and the CD Player, and to show the reality of the batteries running out is so perfect. He has been little but a sidekick thus far, and I think this signals his move from sideliner to headliner. He's no longer the go-to guy for cheesy musical montages; he is now a full-blown castaway. Can't wait for next week; didn't see the preview, so here's hoping for some awesome stuff...and as short a break as possible after next week. Because Alias is going to need all the lead-in help in can get facing off against Idol.

I agree.

Also, non-English speaking immigrants move to Western countries all the time. So I don't think that's any indication either.

Jesus Christ. I'm halfway through watching the first episode of the series, and it's just fucking AMAZING. Are the following episodes even half as good as it? Even since I downloaded Arrested Development, I've been downloading TV shows that I've missed to see if I like them. Since I loved AD so much (and bought the Season 1 DVD), I figured I'd check out Lost, considering it looked like a show you need to watch from the beginning and has been getting high praise and rating, and god damn, friggin movie production values so far.

I don't know what episode they're on now.. maybe 11 or so? But has the series started dragging at all yet, or is it still as good as this first episode has been so far?

Hey Mike, well they have a backstory to each episode and that can ultimatley determine the pace. There has been only 1 or 2 episodes that drag beyond my liking , every other has been very intriguing and even the drag ones has further the plot somehow. download them all and join us!

Welcome to the family!

And I think tonight was episode 17.

And I dont think the series has started dragging, really. The Ethan arc was sweet though! Especially when Jack tangles with him (I was yelling at my screen the second time :(). There are slow episodes that don't really go anywhere except help you get to know the character(s) more.

Ok I just saw it.

Of course, episode was good, and much better than that nasty episode last week. YUCKY!

Hurley of course was awesome, easily one of the better highlights of each episode he appears in. PEE ON MY FOOT

I'm glad Jin and Sun
broke up
because now we don't have to see them bicker! That was annoying, and I hated it.

Knowing the word "boat" /= Knowing English.d

And, as someone else said above Mike, do not go in expecting high production values throughout quite like that of the pilot. The pilot (The first two episodes) cost $7 Million, and at one point in the season they start using the soundstage more often, rather than purely locations.

I personally don't feel it has "dragged" but I wasn't coming in expecting pure action. Some episodes are full of excitement, others are more muted and more about character. Either way, the show remains well acted, well shot and damn entertaining, so keep watching. And yes, this was episode 17.

Mike, download the first 4. (Pilot two-parter, Kate's ep, Locke's ep). If you're not hooked after Locke's episode, then the series just won't be compelling enough to hold your attention in later eps.

Great show. Easily the best new show of the year for me. The past few episodes have been a little slower, but still great television, with the plot arc not being pushed as much. However, I expect it to kick into high gear here soon, and you know the season cliffhanger is going to be nasty.

Ghost

Chili Con Carnage!
The Hurley ep is my second most anticipated piece of TV now, only behind Edgars eventual action scenes in 24.

We need more lovable fat guys on TV making me feel good about sitting here eating Chocolate Wheetos straight from the box while watching them.
