Oh my god, Tony Leung is in that movie?

He's my second favorite asian actor ever since Infernal Affairs I and III. Same with Andy Lau.

Insane For Sony
They BOTH wanted to, and Bill Murray's character DID with the lounge singer. She missed nothing
You should realize that he did it only to scare the girl away from him. Sleeping with that random lounge woman - I don't think that made him feel any better or happier about his life.

Yeah, Tony Leung won Cannes best actor with it. I would think Maggie Cheung (Cannes best actress this year) is more eye catching in it though. WKW and Christopher Doyle (camera guy for Hero, visual consultant to Infernal Affairs) makes her look like the most beautiful thing ever. The film may be more draining than even LiT, nothing having Murray, but the cinematography is so good that if you freeze frame at any point in the film, it's like a painting by Edward Hopper. In motion, alongside the music of Yumeji's theme, there are some of the most beautiful sequences I've seen (and it's only of people walking. that's arthouse for u.)

I thought it was a good movie, seemed to be a very realistic depiction of how two people in those circumstances might be drawn to one another. I've seen much much worse, but I've also seen far better movies. Good acting for sure.

My wife hated it, because basically its message was "Having problems with your inattentive husband? Wife nagging you about things you don't care about? Why not try... CHEATING!"

I definitely understand that. Once Bill cheats, he just loses all integrity. At one point you are rooting for this unlikely relationship, but he cheats on his wife, and it WASN'T with this great new girl. And I CAN understand why this happened, I just don't agree that the plot made a compelling story. I get the point of it, but if I were to have made it, on the same premise, it would have gone in an entirely different direction. I guess I dislike the movie more for what it could have been than for what it is.

One thing about Lost in Translation - I was laughing at the cultural mockery of some Japanese things, although I felt bad about how some Japanese might take it rather offending. I hope someday, Japanese would make their own version of Lost in Translation in US too - complete with NRA and Far left, loony liberals, and big fat americans too. ;)
I recall hearing that the Japanese really liked Lost in Translation in general. I definitely remember hearing Sofia Coppola say that when she showed it there the audiences were laughing at things she hadn't intended, but in a good way.

Like Punch-Drunk Love, people who shouldn't have seen this movie accidentally did. Take that.
Punch-Drunk Love is one of my favorite movies of all time. Just shut up.

Just because you're a pushover who likes mediocre movies doesn't automatically make me have bad taste.

Not me. hated it. I though Sandler did a great job, but have no idea why the movie was made. Left me totally cold. And I like non-mainstream movies a lot.

Some of my favourite scenes in the movie were when there WAS no dialogue. Like Bill and Scarlett in the elevator...they're just standing and staring at eachother, smiling. You can tell they're both thinking the exact same thing but none of them is sure whether to act on it or not. That scene in particular struck a chord with me because I can totally relate to that feeling...pure bliss, but a bliss that has to be restrained because of circumstances.

And I'll throw my hat into the pile of people who liked Punch-Drunk Love.
