I'm not late to the party because I saw this movie when it first came out and I loved it. But for some reason, I watched it tonight and got such a great vibe from it, almost nostalgic. Gotta turn this into a love thread for the movie. It's done so well. The whole plot seems so boring until you watch the movie, and I can't even pin point what is so entertaining. The flow is perfect, enough to keep you easily entertained the whole movie. Not to mention the acting is great as well as the real life conundrum drawn up in the movie. It also doesn't hurt that Scarlett Johannson is so hot in the movie.

I love this movie so much.
Whenever my mom or myself feel kind of meh, we just pop the DVD in and we're laughing at the same jokes, even though it's the 247th time.

Although some groups say the movie is racist, I don't agree. I think most people's problem is that the two main characters appear to hate the country, but I think it has more to do with their personal life that is making them feel down.
I think it portrays the culture shock a westerner would experience when they visit a place like Tokyo.

If you go to a country where you don't know the language, and have nobody there to relate to, it's one of the most ostracizing feelings ever. I love the way it's portrayed in this movie.

Dehumanizes is what made me giggle just a bit in there. Maybe I'm just ignorant with all my stereotypes and whatnot, but I didn't see anything racist in that movie. It pointed out some obvious cultural differences. And the fact that there wasn't any major japanese characters or dialogue was to give the feeling of isolation that both Charlotte and Bob felt. Sheesh. But back on topic, this movie just effin rules!

This kind of stuff is ridiculous, like the Italian antidefamation league going after the sopranos. Just because a movie or story reflects one type of person of an ethnicity doesn't mean they are all that way.
Think of how many great movies would never have been made if we were always so politically correct! Hell, Casablanca only had one black man, and he was a piano player!
I cry foul.

I hate it when anyone goes nuts with accusing such and such to be racist, but as an Asian, I find that group particulariy annoying. Everything's a fucking conspiracy to them for fuck's sake...

LiT is one of my favorite movies from the last several years, and I still haven't exactly pinpointed why. I guess the dynamic between Bob and Charlotte is so interesting and realistic, and it's such a relaxing and beautiful movie to watch. Still don't know what it is exactly, though....I don't think I'll ever get sick of this movie.
Most definitely. Scarlett Johansen(sp?) is one of god's most brilliant creations.

Everyone that doesn't seems to hate it for stupid reasons. I have yet to hear a decent reason why this movie sucks. I talked to some girl who said she hated it because "there wasn't enough music in the scenes, and that made it boring." WTF. Go watch some more FROM JUSTIN 2 KELLY or something. Jesus!
For what it is, it's a fairly perfect movie. There's really nothing wrong with it. But it's a very atypical movie, and I can definitely imagine someone just not 'clicking' with it. The reasons some people give for disliking it are pretty ridiculous, though.Diablos said:
