Lost Planet vs Dead Space (deux)

Dilemma! I spent too much money this holiday season and want to spend my remaining quids on food and rent.
I am going to return a game for either:

Lost Planet, or
Dead Space 2 (and spend 10 extra euro’s).

Now I know Dead Space is considered better, but I already played the first one this year and I kind of feel that I’ve already had my dead space experience. I’ve seen some good reviews of Lost Planet and quite like the world but the game also has it’s share of negative reviews.
What would you recommend? Stay cheap and go for Snowy Worlds? Or eat cheap and continue amongst dark space corridors?

This is what this awesome forum is for amirite?!

Lost Planet, I really disliked Dead Space 2 for reasons, unless you specifically want, I won't go into depth right now.

EDIT: Dead Space 1 and 2 are pretty different though, and won't give the same experience.

Hate these threads because Lost Planet was actually the best TPS on the market except for Vanquish in terms of skill ceiling - but it has a huge advantage over Vanquish in having multiplayer. It really has a lot more to it than Gears (the most popular and well-accepted TPS of this gen). I corrected you all in an ancient thread on this matter but the thread had already died by the time I got there. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=435672 Long story short: You haters only hate cuz you sucked at it. Didn't help that there was no tutorial whatsoever, and 99% of you probably didn't toggle bounding box.

If they make an LP3, they just need to go back to more of a Colonies style (need to get rid of the custom layouts - they are such a clusterfuck that I don't think any amount of balancing R&D will work). Keep the interface improvements such as running and mapping VS weapon attachments to a seperate button than melee. Then add support for dedicated servers and a good spectator mode and they would be set! I'm talking potential e-sport item set, it would be way more interesting to watch LP teams of 8 play pro Counter Grab, Team Elimination, and VS annihilator than Gears, Halo, and CS. Quake Live can stay, though.

If you play LPC single player, especially on Extreme mode, it's literally the closest spiritual thing we have to a 3d Metal Slug.

a bit more argumentation is appreciated, as in, 'I've played both and had more fun with X but X2 was more such and such compared to X1'.

I friggin love Vanguish so comparisons to the fun factor of that game are much welcomed.

Lost planet 1 was is one of my favorite games of this generation, even though it's riddled with flaws. Dead Space ( 1 and 2 ) is one of my favorite games of all time.

Dead Space 2 is better than either of the Lost Planet games and the original Dead Space. I definitely say go for DS2.

People always say this, but what are the flaws? The animation penalties and invulnerability frames? (ie the dodge roll?) If that's the case why don't you say SF3 is flawed over the parries, or SF4 is flawed due to the focus attack?

Lost Planet. The gameplay mechanics are so far beyond the average (and the elite, for the most part) third-person shooter, and it's the only modern shooter franchise that really comes to mind that has really good boss fights (aside from the shitty final boss).

Dead Space's most distinctive gameplay 'feature' is a HUD that's part of your character model.

I loved the first Lost Planet. Played the multiplayer so much which was great. It's a very unique game.

I actually just put a bid in for Lost Planet 2. I know it's not considered as good but it'll be nice to see the gameplay again. How active is the online community (PS3)?

not helping so far.

lost planet is free. dead space costs me (a bit of) money. dead space is a good experience. lost planet is fun. sht.

Lost Planet 1 is alright if you want to tread through it. I have no opinion on 2. Dead Space 1 and 2 are one of my favorite games this generation. Great atmosphere. Take that as you will?

I loved Dead Space 1 and think the sequel took as big a leap in quality as Uncharted 2 did. Also, I'm just not into the lost planet style controls.

Lost Planet 1 was a hell of a multiplayer game, so if this was 2007, I'd say Lost Planet 1.

But it's not, so Dead Space 2 I guess.

Also you didn't mention the platform, but if you can find one of those limited Ed copies of DS2 floating around for PS3 you're going to get DS extraction for free

It's very healthy right now, quite easy to find co-op partners, it takes like 4-5 seconds to find a session.

Dead Space 2, there's no question. It's not only a better game by comparison, it's a fantastic game in its own right.

I enjoyed Lost Planet anyhow. People hated the old school gameplay the bosses brought on, but I ate that stuff up. The random mix up in the end was great too.

Lost Planet 1 is probably the most underrated game this entire generation. People hated it because they were use to more streamlined controls like Gears and many other FPS games that came out before hand. LP1 plays very "Japanese" like and unique which was butchered in the sequel. LP1 is Contra in 3D done right.

That being said I think Dead Space 1 is better than 2.

If I hadn't played dead space 1 I would've gone for part two, no doubt. But because I've played it I kind of want to hear that for a different experience I need to get lost planet. It might not be better than dead space, but since I've already played it there I go. Then again, some of the arguments here say that dead space 2 is a different thing compared to dead space 1 and offers a different experience still. Is this the case? eh?

or should I just get sims3 and so that my girlfriend has something to play while I go around asking questions on neogaf on which games i should be playing?

They're two different beasts, but I'd go with Dead Space 2. I just finished it and I can say this for sure: It's one of the best games of the generation and THE BEST survival horror game of the generation.

Dead Space 2 is a better game imo. And if you play on PS3 try to find a limited edition with the DS:E, it's well worth the price.

They didn't butcher anything in Lost Planet 2, in terms of the unique way the game handles. The only significant changes were that they added a sprint (that doesn't overshadow any other movement options, and is interruptible, like all Lost Planet animations) and they removed the animation where you switched from right-handed to left-handed on your weapons if you changed directions while shooting.

Lost Planet 2 has a much better claim to the title of "most underrated game this generation".

Spot on. This generation's most refreshing shooter, in terms of unique feel. However, sadly, not to everyone's tastes...and there are admittedly a few niggling design issues outside of the watertight and highly nuanced control and movement combo.

But you'll get nothing but love from me about Lost Planet 2.
