Lost Planet vs Dead Space (deux)

Lost Planet was a good game back in the beginning of the generation when titles were sparse, but I feel like Capcom did nothing with its potential.

Dead Space started out great and just keeps getting better. Dead Space 2 is some quality stuff.

I liked Lost Planet. Fun game, played through it once, tried to replay it a few months later and stopped about halfway through.

Dead Space 2, is just... fuck. I have no words. I did probably eight back to back playthrus when it came out, and I've surely more than doubled that count since then. I just did four or five beginning to end replays after I finished with Skyward Sword. I have a Dead Space problem.

Sometimes I read the trophies/achievements in games like DS2 and think, "Well that sucks... I'll never be able to do this. I mean who the heck would!?".

Now my response is... "Oh."

Lost Planet is a pretty good TPS, that's worth playing. Some fantastic graphics and really good fast paced action. The game really keeps you on your toes, with its really cool bossess and the like. I guess maybe the controls are a bit strange, but nothing big. It

Dead Space 2 is a very boring game. I liked Dead Space 1, but two I felt did nothing better then 1. It was a disappointingly dry game. It was basically 1 again. I don't think they did anything with the gameplay. Th plasma cutter was still the best and no the cutting mechanic was not expanded enough. The way the encounters were done was pretty much the same, except the game thought it was better to put a lot of enimes behind you now, it wasn't. The environments were a let down. I thought a space colony meant I would be around people and thus some crazy survivor situations would happen, nope. And most of the environments were boring except for the school area. It was the only real part where I was like "yeah this made the change from ship to colony actually mean something".

You say you already had your full of DS? Well in that case maybe you will not really like DS2, as I said I just think its more of the same. So in that case I say spend the what $5? and pick up Lost Plane.

Lost Planet is actually a unique game. You'll probably never play anything like it. Just like Vanquish, old school ideas into modern design. Though they still have a few questionable decisions such as not allowing the grapple hook to work while on the move. I should be able to jump and hook. I still absolutely loved the design of the game, but it also suffers the same faults as Vanquish and other "different" shooters have. You can play the title wrong. You have to dodge and use those invincibility frames to survive. If you don't, its just going to be frustrating. Definitely not for everyone.

With you are after LP2, you need coop buddies. The game was not meant for single player at all(And I really mean that, easy on this is harder than most games). Otherwise its probably one of the best coop experiences I had, but you need partners and they need to be good. One person can and will fuck over a team.

On Dead Space, just play RE4 again if you want more. Cheapest, longest, and still the goddamn best.

The reason that 'high-level' players roll everywhere in Lost Planet isn't because it magically makes them invincible. It makes them easier to kill. They do it because other than anchor-canceling (which is interruptible), repeatedly rolling is just the fastest way to move around the map. They do it because despite making you easier to kill, it makes your movement irregular, and harder for novice players to aim at, particularly at close ranges. They do it because for certain weapons, firing at the tail end of a roll made your firing animation a frame or two shorter and harder to interrupt. The idea that 'spamming' rolls made you constantly invincible and broke the game is like saying that the Hadouken breaks Street Fighter because you can just keep throwing them and one player gets stuck in the corner, and even if they block they're still not moving forward, and and and and and...
Its not like COD or Halo where everyone has a chance. More skilled players will do better, but it forces up the bottom level players and has a ceiling to keep the top players from getting too good. LP allowed high level players to continually bitch slap players who refused to learn. You magically aren't just going to get better unless you want to understand and use the mechanics. Same as beating higher difficulties in the SP.

On Dead Space, just play RE4 again. Still hasn't been topped.

I really enjoyed RE4 at the time... but you can actually move and shoot in Dead Space. It's also the better game for a number of other reasons.

DS2 is what RE5 should've been.

Being able to move and shoot hurt the game for me. And a lot of others, if I remember all the arguing that went on years ago correctly!

Well, you guys are wrong though. ;)

In order for me to give less of a crap about achievements/trophies, I would have to be dead. I haven't gotten them all for DS2 and I doubt I ever will. I tried Hardcore mode once, died in chapter 2, shrugged, and moved on.

Lost Planet 1 is probably the most underrated game this entire generation. People hated it because they were use to more streamlined controls like Gears and many other FPS games that came out before hand. LP1 plays very "Japanese" like and unique which was butchered in the sequel. LP1 is Contra in 3D done right.

My thoughts exactly.

LP1 is one of my favorite action games. Definitely my favorite TPS until Vanquish came out. I love the movement mechanics, the challenge, the level design, the bosses, the sense of urgency generated by rapidly-depleting T-Eng (too bad this element doesn't feature prominently in the sequel).

I love LP2 too. It is a fabulous co-op experience, one of my favorites. The level design isn't as great as the first, and T-Eng simply just isn't as important, but the co-op is so amazing. Bosses are still awesome, too.

3-3 /bow

For the record, I didn't even touch the mp much (though Akrid Hunt in Colonies was fun). I just love the campaigns.

I don't know about Dead Space.

I don't know about Dead Space.

I recommend learning about it. The games are cheap as hell now. Try one.

Especially if you liked anything about RE4. It's a *similar* formula in DS. These games are some of the best this gen.

They are both AAA. The second, imo, is better than the first, but the difference is in the details. A couple things that annoyed, or seemed underrealized, are much improved in the sequel. Most certainly worth a try.

edit: I also really loved LP1, but not more than DS.

Does LP2 on the PC support LAN or split-screen? Everyone is talking about how good the co-op is but I don't think anyone plays co-op online anymore.
