LTTP: AC Valhalla, what a PoS

I thought I have a high tolerance for bullshit (40+, kids, etc.), but this takes the fucking cake.

So I went with the family to Puy de Fou - if you are in France check it out, incredible experience. It's an amusement park with only live shows.
Well, one of them was about the fucking Vikings, so I got that itch.

Ok, Valhalla is on sale, 14.99€, I will check it out (thank God for Steam refunds).

1. Game takes 156GB on the Steam Deck
2. After you launch it and obligatory Ubisoft Connect screen we go into "Checking for Addons"

20 seconds
1 minute
Game

Ok, had to change settings, let's restart

20 seconds,
1 minute
2 minutes

Force close, restart

20 seconds
Game

Select options that tell me fuck nothing
Cue Ubislop exposition

Never refunded a game faster than that.

Thats not Valhalla related, it like half the industry where you need to restart to apply settings…and who the fucks installs Valhalla on steamdeck, for real?

Should've changed the thread title LTTP Installing AC Valhalla. Would've made more sense.

Also
As Dutchman, I say it with respect: Fuck France

Brother, you're not late to the party, you didn't turn up.

It was a mixed bag game for me. Didn't care for the Asgard sections at all. Been blasting through AC Mirage which I'm probably enjoying more. Not much of a story but the setting feels more in keeping with what I expect from AC.

So you just suck at installing a game, or troubleshooting it? Cool. Anyway, yeah Valhalla sucks, and it's far less woke than Shadows which is superior to it.

You can have some fun with it for the first 15-20 hours, but after that, it gets really rough and i played through this stinker.

How can I troubleshoot a shitty connection to Ubi servers checking for DLC that should take 3 seconds but takes 20+? Checking for a few webhooks is leet hax skillz?

Anyway you dodged a bullet. I tried to play the game when it was on a sub and could bear playing more than a few hours.

I don't know what happened to Ubisoft (dead creativity?) but those games used to be great. I am currently replaying AC Odyssey with the other character and I am still having a blast playing that game.

Not to be that guy, but cmon. Its right there. Not everything is going to work super simple on the deck especially games with multiple DRM's which Im pretty sure you knew.

While there is a lot of bloat with Valhalla, and some of the dialogue and missions were a bit cringe, there was a lot of good ones too, it was the last AC i enjoyed, i disagree with the OP, there is a reason it's the best selling Assassin's Creed ever, they did England really well, i still replay it from time to time now.

Bro, I played Diablo 4 on the Deck, Battle.net login takes 2 seconds, my wife plays Sims 4 on the Deck, EA login there takes 3-5 seconds. TF Ubi needs 20 seconds or more for?

Not everything is universally the same/as good. Not saying the Ubi servers are great, I'm only saying you're making a huge deal out of a small nuisance. I dont think a few minutes of your life will prevent you from probably enjoying a game on the Deck. It's like saying you dont want to spend 10 minutes waiting in line to buy a delicious ice cream.

Yelling At The Clouds

Jokes aside…I think that steamdeck experience saved you from many more frustrations with the game based on your initial complaints.

I looked up that amusement park and it makes me actually want to visit France…so now this is a "LTTP: France" thread.

I played it a few years ago, after 2 about a couple of hours, I was feed up with it.
It's just a boring, generic Ubisoft game, with party vikings.
You are not missing out.

It is difficult to understand how you felt about the game.

You either HATED the game so much, that you'd never play another AC
or
You LOVED the game so much, that you'd only ever play Valhalla.

:P

It's most definitely the former: will never play another AC again. Unless there's a radical shift in the gameplay loop.

The game was pure bloat in the worst ways.

I love the maps, the visuals, etc. Great to just wander around, like the previous entries.

But it's crazy bloated (even more so than the others, which is a feat), and the story and characters are bland.

I just didn't like the game honestly it moves so far away from being an assassin compared to even Odyssey it was to much for me. It just became a poor mans action game.

That was an enlightening read. Thank you! You should branch out to other fields. You'd be great for literary novel reviews where you judge the book by its cover, movie reviews where you judge the original film based on the porn version and restaurant criticism where you judge the food based on the time it took to deliver your takeaway order.

Immature post, everybody loved Valhalla, so much content, really gruesome story etc. but hey I played it on an effortless console that was easy to play.

I was looking forward to reading some interesting critique and all I got was (admittedly deserved) bitching about the installation.
At least you mentioned that french theme park I never heard of, sounds interesting, so it wasn't a complete wash.

As for the game itself, I finished its main story and all DLCs except Ragnarok, which I do not give a fuck about.

Base game is decent, way too bloated, but male Eivor is just awesome and the game has its moments and some amazing soundtrack.
Druid DLC was somewhat mediocre.
Paris DLC was good.
Skye Isle DLC was good.

Best thing about Valhalla is Jesper Kyd, Sarah Schachner and Einar Selvik:

Plus the visuals and possibility to visit medieval England is cool.

I said nope after 10 hours on AC Odyssey, and decided to let go of this series after playing all the previous games.

Maybe I'm just too old for this bloated mess and preferring 20-30 hour experiences. With very few 100 hour exceptions, but AC? Nope, had enough of it.

Even developers said they bloated the latter games just because they don't want people to sell the games too soon. I'm out of this bullshit.

Game runs fine on a Legion Go.

But yes, the game did suck. It's one of my least fav Assassin Creed games...all the pretty pictures in the world ain't saving this one.

The game did look good....but geez....

The music and the environments are the best thing about the game.
