LTTP: Advance Wars Days of Ruin/Dark Conflict

Yeah, for some weird reason do Advance Wars games barely sell in Japan.
Might have something to do with them treating the Japanese market like second-class citizens. Advance Wars 1 didn't come out there until it was bundled with AW2, which didn't release until over a year after AW2 had come out in every other market. Days of Ruin, as I said, was never released there at all.

And that real time battle mode for Dual Strike stinks. I played it sooo much and it stinks. The challenge maps focused on converving money, time, (I forget the last one) are pretty sweet, but the openness of CO choice works against the tight design.

did you ever get the chance to play it with 4 friends in a room together, with Fog of War on? its fantastic

the three Survival modes were Money, Time, and Turns btw

I love both DS and DoR, DS for the amount of content it has and DoR for how well the combat system is designed :) Probably won't ever happen but I'd like something with the modularity of DS and the sense of consequence from DoR.

I could do without tag breaks and pair-up bonuses though, the way they are in DS. Those two are likely the two worst factors of the dual CO system. Some of the COs need to be toned down a bit too but the tag breaks really favored COs with short bars and getting +15% luck d2d is too good.

I think I only played with 3 players max. Otherwise I played 1v1. I don't remember how many options are there for that mode.

Ah yes, Time AND Turn. I combined the two in my mind. Thanks for reminding me.

I've been known to put some serious time and effort into multiplayer modes that most ignore or underestimate.... Spirit Tracks Battle. Monkey Dog Fight. Spelunky. Puji. etc. Though I doubt Dual Strikes combat mode has enough good design in it, you've made me curious to know more about how 4 players works.

This was one of the first titles I picked up with my DSL back in the day. I'd never touched the series prior but was sold on it after reading a preview in EDGE that indicated the 'darker' direction.

I realise that the change in art style probably put off a few fans of the original titles but on the flipside, it was enough to attract me to it. If Nintendo put out a 3DS iteration, I'll be there on day one.

I love this game! Bought it for 10 euros some years ago; the game had been launched only some months before, so it was a real finding - at least in Portugal; I knew the series fame but had never played one of the games. Now I have close to 200 hours, and still haven't beat half of the maps the game has.

I know the characters are not the same from previous games, but for a newcomer like me I actually enjoyed them. I tought the art style was good, and the characters were ok
(hated that mayor bastard ).
One thing I really like about this game is the music, of course: Trak/Gage, Lili/Penny, Finn/Waylon... heck, all the themes are great.

However, none of this would matter if the gameplay wasn't good. And to me, it is great. The feeling that no unit was useless, the possibility to follow different paths to achieve victory (not as much in the campaign), the multiplayer...

I still don't own a 3DS, but a new Advance Wars would definitely convince me to get one.

I've put a ridiculous amount of hours into Dual Strike and Days of Ruin. I can't really decide which one i like better, they're both great for different reasons.
