For anyone interested in a solid third person poltergeist game this might be the one for you.
Nothing is as beautiful as this world of terror, world of shadow people, Bright Falls, Washington, with its on going "Deer Fest", the nature, every street has something like coffee world, or the sheriffs office and there's all kinds of things like the Cauldron Lake, and the camping grounds or the super natural hidden dimension "Dark Place" it's all powered by the north light engine.
I remember how advanced the FBI aspects of Alan Wake 2 felt, and so what happened with Alan Wake 2 is you're split into two characters, you play as special agent Saga, and you're dealing with using evidence to pin point your next objective.
VFX team used Luau to implement a weather system - The different weather conditions can be quickly tested through a debug panel.
Half of the game you play as "Saga" but you can switch "realities" by entering a puddle through a janitors closet. Wow.
So going into Alan Wake 2's story I knew I was getting into a super natural nightmare scenario but I grew up watching horror, playing horror and reading it you know what I'm saying, but you get into these part of the games early on about trying to solve a murder mystery, what happens is Robert Nightinagle was murdered by a "Cult of the Tree" group who's plan is to basically kill Alan Wake, but these shadow people "Takens" come after you, so now you are fighting cult members, and shadow taken people.
The combat is really straight forward, its you know shoot and kill, there's weapon upgrades, and inventory, I thought it was a solid quick set up. I imagine they could improve some aspects of it but a lot of the time you're using your flash light of all things. You can also backhand enemies.
Items you discover to prepare for future enemies, weapons you find are the shotgun, sewed off shotgun and a rifle.
This game has 19 episodes, 10 for saga and 9 legit missions for Alan. It's easy to switch between them through the janitors room.
You get these "rituals" of murder scenes that has you multiple times going to your "Mind Place" on a plot board to change scenes like for example in the subway it involves a collapsed tunnel but going to your "Mind Place" and changing the site to a regular tunnel you see these new environments playing a world that you know isn't true, but you're seeing it through the eyes of a cult member, or police officer, it's a real pleasure to play but to keep moving forward you can actually get lost and you got to go through different sites, it can be a lot for the casual gamer.
One of the areas, Watery, WA has you going to coffee world, the lighthouse trailer park and has you controlling Saga doing so.
They did a lot of in human scenes, a combination of movie and game this was some crazy stuff.
A 90 on Metacritic
One of the best casts in a video games,
Building relationships with your coworkers was really fun, imagine profiling someone mid game so you build something towards an objective, this person is telling the truth.
It doesn't matter if the game is perfect, but the mind place, things like going into the overlap are game changers, that adds a chaotic nature it probably the craziest stuff ever, the dark vs light and if you aren't willing to hang out in a section of a game for more than 10 mins this game isn't for you and just how this game is constructed is a game changer. I swear Scratch was the best villain, what's truth, what's reality. Without having this aspect I think you'd just have Resident Evil 2, Alan Wake 2 to Alan Wake 1 but when you mention Alan Wake 2 you know it keeps going forward and isn't considered DLC like you know some say games sequels today are just DLC to the original. I was sitting in my room playing this and was struct by it's profound sense of horror because I know you're navigating this complex, world and trying to solve murder. So rich in collecting, you're always having a moment with a puzzle or case and everything feels chaotic in a good game. Pausing from Alan Wake 2 just leaves you wanting to play it more.
