LTTP: Avatar: The Last Airbender. I'm not feeling the love... *no spoilers*

I just finished Season 1 on the train ride into work this morning and right now, I'm just not feeling it.

Let me first start off by saying that I do love the voice work and animation. Sokka is GREAT, and Aang and Katara are pretty cool too. I've even laughed out loud a few times. There is some solid stuff in here.

But as an overarching narrative, I am finding myself more bored than impressed. I had no idea this was a "character/villain of the day" type show, which isn't exactly my cup of tea. I'm not a huge fan how every problem is presented and then wrapped up neatly by the end of the episode. Does this structure change in S2 and S3? I'm really unsure if I should keep plugging away.

I wanted to wait until I got further into the show before forming any solid opinions, but with an entire season down, I don't feel a strong desire to keep going. If I didn't like S1, should I call it?

The first season is mediocre at best, imo. The later seasons really take off. It gets a lot better from the second season on, and I'd wager most people are hooked by end of season 2.

It drops this in S2, and has a ton of character development.

Its the best animated TV show ever made. They just don't make that anymore these days. I try and try to find something even close resembling that and no dice. It really is a one of a kind.

I agree, but for probably different reasons.

I think Legend of Korra is superior to TLA in every way except overarching narrative (and *only* because LoK doesn't have one - its separate issues/antagonists each season).

For this opinion I get shit on by TLA fans constantly - but I'm used to it.

I really liked TLA but there is an absurd level of love directed at it that is not warranted. And in-turn an absurd amount of hate leveled at LoK.

That being said, they are both great shows, but IMO Korra is far better (one of my top 5 favorite shows ever).

The ways in which the animation, story, characters, world building etc etc all improve as the series continues makes it worth it. I was feeling just like you when it was introduced to me. Now? I love it lol

I thought it was a good show, but thought it fell hard on Season 3. There was quite a few filler episodes in S3.

S2 > S1 >>>>> S3.
