Probably the best TV show I've ever seen, and the only show I've ever rewatched.

(I'm not a big TV watcher though.)

Only got through the second season of Korra, need to finish it someday. Movie is pretty hilariously bad.

The entire second half of season 2 (the Library on) is the best run of consecutively amazing episodes of any show ever.

I've watched the entire series all the way through at least 6 times. Korra is great but not as good. Although season 3 of Korra is in the same league as the best of TLA imo.

What's wrong with Korra? I've only read and heard good things about it from acquaintances. Maybe it's not ATLA level?

Yeah, I remember when it first aired and I thought it'd be an awkward mix of styles that would fail. Never interested me until years later.

Boy, I was wrong. And I'm fucking glad I started watching it.
Korra is fine. It's a worthy successor to avatar and absolutely with watching. Don't mind the naysayers, especially if they tell you to outright skip season two. That would be like skipping Zuko's arc in book two of avatar. The midseason two parter is also one of the best episodes of both series.

Loooove this show. It had so many right ingredients, from casting to writing to directing. Everything just clicked, and it gets all the love it's made. Except maybe that silly rock-to-the-back in the finale, but it's not a huge deal.

This is my take as well.

Watch both. You're missing out on great animation and rather fun characters if you skip Korra.

best animated series of all time

OF ALL TIME

Are they ever going to release an entire collection on bluray?

unfortunately I doubt it. the show was mastered in 4:3 and it would take a lot of work to do an HD remaster. not to mention it felt like Nick was pretty much done with the Avatar franchise halfway through Korra.

And they lost the original cels, from what I've heard.

Sadness. Oh well, I eBayed the DVD collector sets. About $50 total. Those are hard to find I imagine. Plus I never saw any sort of bonus feature for this show, so it should be nice to see the show again along with making of's.

Quite possibly the best cartoon series ever created. Korra is also great but TLA set a pretty unbeatable standard.

Between this and Batman: The Animated Series you don't get much better for an animated series.

And, the Joker himself Mark Hamill himself voices a character in ATLA as well :)

Uncle Iroh is the best!

It's a long, long way to Ba Sing Se
But the girls in the city they look so pretty
And they kiss so sweet that you've really got to meet
The girls from Ba Sing Se!

I'm just going to echo most people here. The show is absolutely amazing, but the sequel is awful and the live-action movie is even worse. Enjoy the good one OP.

P.S. Iroh IS the best.

Actually, listen to the naysayers and keep your expectations low for Korra. You'll probably enjoy season 3 and 4 of Korra but it never comes close to the quality of season 2 of Avatar.

You are in for for a lot of fun if you're only halfway through Book 2. The second half of Book 2 is perfection.

I don't believe you. Rarely is there a position that I just honestly can't conceive of anyone holding, but here is it.

Same.

Do you guys remember that one trailer with the fire nation ships(looked like it would have been a cool scene) that were never in the movie at all?

Yeah, I thought it was more engaging. Would have loved a sequel.
Death by Fire Nation burning incoming

Are you saying this as someone who has only watched a few early episodes of the series or as someone who has watched it from beginning to end and still thought the movie was superior? Cause otherwise there's no way this opinion can be real.

Book 2 is really where the show kicked into high gear. There were some great episodes in Book 1, but the overall quality was a bit inconsistent. There were a lot of stand-alone episodes.

But Book 2, particularly when Toph comes in, is where the show really becomes amazing. Amazing fucking characters, great moments, and Iroh can go from a silly funny character to a heart-breaking father figure in just a moment.

There are the obvious, big amazing moments that everyone mentions. But one moment that always gets me that no one ever mentions but always kinda hits me is near the Book 1 finale. It's when Zuko is sneaking off the fire nation ship and Iroh is seeing him off, and he starts getting super parental and concerned just about Zuko keeping warm. There's something in that moment that just says so much about what is going through that character's mind - it's a beautiful, little performance. There are some other favorite moments of mine later on, but we'll talk about those when you get to em :p

The best is yet to come, OP. One of the greatest animated shows of all time. A modern classic.

It's not ATLA level, but I think its detractors really overstate the negative qualities. There are some issues with Korra narratively throughout, and Book 2 really has some bizarre and sometimes frustrating character choices. But if you love the universe, you should absolutely watch through it. It's a fine show that has some amazing moments of its own.

The moment when Iroh tells Zuko he's the closest thing he has to a son after he effectively lost his actual one hits like a ton of bricks. Zuko's reaction makes it more poignant. And then in "Zuko Alone" we see a glimpse of Iroh before that loss and we can see he's a bit different. I can only imagine how hard it must've been for him. I just hope there's more about that in the following episodes.

My favorite cartoon of all time. If you're loving it already I'm sure you'll be glad to hear Season 1 is probably the weakest part of the series, it only gets better from here. Not that S1 is bad, but S2 and S3 are just so good.

They lost the original Cels?!?!?!?!?

Did they at least put out the ATLA OST yet? :<

OP has so many great episodes to look forward to

Well, the choreography was fantastic; I'm talking about the bending itself. The animation of the earth, wind, fire, and water itself felt really small-bore, even if the choreography of the martial arts aspect was great. Does that make more sense?

The fight scenes in Korra season 3 and 4 are probably the best in the Avatar franchise as a whole, and they have the prettiest animation; it's a shame that more or less everything else about them is much worse than the Last Airbender. Season 1 is probably narrowly the best season of Korra, so you can judge fairly accurately by that whether you want to keep going. Some argue for Season 3, I don't think there's much distinction between the two. Seasons 2 and 4 are noticeably much worse than everything else in the franchise, particularly Season 2 which is atrocious, and I don't mean that in the sense of "compared to the rest of the franchse", I mean it was just bad and I wouldn't watch it, excepting maybe the Wan two-parter.

I'll say they won't go into overt revelations about his past, but they do hint at a lot of it, and it really does its job at contextualizing his relationship with Zuko. Iroh is honestly my favorite character on that show.

Thanks for that, I'll keep it in mind!

Oh, that sounds good. I can't wait to see what happens next :D

The way they did the bending in the movie was just offensive.

Not even halfway through season two and you're already this pumped up? You're in for a ride.

And yes, one of the best - if not the best - animated show(s) to hit television. Yet some continue to dismiss it for being "for kids". A shame.

LOL, that looks pitiful. Synchronized dancing for lifting a small stone... jeez.

apparently they're actually creating an earth wall and the way the scene is shot makes it look like they're... levitating the stone.

but it's shit either way

This thread is not as bad as I thought it was gonna be (not like that last one).

Anyways, I'll leave my piece:

ATLA is one of my favorite series of all time. Glad to see someone is enjoying it. That being said, as far as The Legend of Korra goes, you're an adult and can form your opinion. The only expectation you should even conceive of going in with is that it is a different series in both tone and focus.

It has a much larger cast of primary and secondary characters for one. As well as having an overall darker and more serious tone. As opposed to ATLA's lighter tone and greater focus on adventure, world- and character-building, TLoK emphasizes plot, action, and drama.

Again, everyone has their own thoughts on whether this is for the better or for the worse. It's important not to let these influence you too much, though I do suggest you watch it if you are really curious. Just note what I said above and that's what you should expect. I love the Avatarverse as a whole a lot. Except the movie. Good lord, that movie is garbo.

I really want to hear why someone prefers the movie over the show, though. I have never ever heard that opinion before in my life.

Just watched "The Chase"...

OH FUCK THAT ENDING PLEASE NO NOOOOOOOOOO

Underrated episode. Establishes Azula's gang as an even bigger threat than was apparent in Return to Omashu. Also a great example of A:TLA's ability to balance intense scenes with slow, thoughtful ones and still be fun all the way.

You have a lot of great episodes left. Book 2 and 3 are sublime.

Korra is good but as a whole entity it doesn't stack up to TLA. It does have some genuinely good moments though. And some genuinely bad ones to be fair.

ATLA/TLOK are fantastic.

They should be far more popular than they are.

The world and lore are right up there with LOTR or Star Wars.

May I ask why you thought that? Did the previous thread end badly?

Oh, absolutely. The Dangerous Ladies are cute and lethal. Mostly lethal. Sokka's headbutt was funny though.

My boyfriend always makes fun of me because I say it's the best tv series of all time. Whatever.

I love to live vicariously through people watching it for the first time. Is that weird?
