LTTP: Gamecube

Yeah, yeah, ridiculous I know. However, I've gotten the opportunity to procure a Gamecube for like $25, so I'm jumping on it, so what games should I buy aside from the usual suspects - the usual suspects being "Metroid Prime" and "Wind Waker"?

I got a used copy of Prime at Gamestop yesterday - $7 for original case, original instructions, and all original inserts as well, probably the best condition I've ever gotten a non-eBay used game in. Prime is like not available new ANYWHERE I looked, but Wind Waker is easy to find.

How is Prime 2? I also saw some copies of Paper Mario at Best Buy.

Anyway, aside from no longer needing a Wii to play Twilight Princess this December, what other oldies-but-goodies-but-still-findable-in-stores Gamecube games should I be hunting down?

Or have I basically already covered everything worth playing on the thing? :lol

P.S. - No RE4 please, I've already played and beaten the PS2 version.

I didn't enjoy Prime 2 as much as the first, and probably far less then I should have because I kept comparing it to Prime in my head. You might like it, other people have. It's a good game, just not a superb game.

Grab Paper Mario, awsome game. Puts a smile on your face.

Prime 2 and Paper Mario are good to own of course.

F-Zero GX is fantastic, Super Smash Bros Melee, Monkey Ball 1 and 2. To name a few.

Ones to watch out for imo...

Monkey Ball 1 & 2
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 4
Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat
Donkey Konga
Super Mario Sunshine
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II Rebel Strike
Ikaruga
Viewtiful Joe
Killer 7

Multiplayer musts:
Wario Ware: Mega Party Game$
Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures

Prime I loved--Prime 2 I dropped halfway through.
Paper Mario GC is ingenious, but can get tedious--I prefer the N64 version.

Consider:

Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2 (1 is better)
Skies of Arcadia
Killer 7
Viewtiful Joe
Luigi's Mansion
Pikmin 1 and 2 (again, 1 is better)
Ikaruga, if you can find it
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour

it's an awful party and metroid prime is the turd in the punchbowl. but $75 to play the definitive version of twilight princess? sounds fair.

Seriously though, get Fzero, skip K7 (Gaf doesn't want to admit that it has terrible gameplay and to be honest, the story/style isn't worth it). Then watch as your GC gathers dust after a month or so of owning it.

What's the point really?

At any rate, pick up Baten Kaitos and Baten Katios II (er Origins). NOA has done the localization for Origins, and it's gonna be shit hawt. Oh and turn off the voices in the first one.

Fire Emblem. I have nothing else to say. The GC is only worth it for FE.

If your planning to purchase a Wii any time soon, I would hold back on getting the GC. Save the $25 + memory card, and use the Wii's BC. Plus with the composite/component/whatever cables, it should look a little crisper on your tv.

I think he already bought it.

Besides there are tons of GC games worth playing, and he'll need the memory card to save those on the Wii.

Do you have friends? Do you enjoy mascot themed fighting games which looks shallow but has more depth than most other modern fighters? If so, get Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Get Tales of Symphonia, F-Zero GX, Metroid Prime, and Fire Emblem. I'd toss SSBM in there too, and normally give it top priority, but no point really unless you're not getting a Wii, since SSBB will be better.

Secondary choices would be...
Uh... Baten Kaitos, I guess, and probably its sequel (on September 25th). That's about it. ToS, F-Zero, Metroid, FE, BK, BKO, and SSBM iff you're not getting a Wii. Everything else is either a "B" game at best (Paper Mario, Wind Waker) or has superior sequels (Soul Calibur 2).

And I'm saying this as someone who only owned a GC for home consoles this gen.

Wii will be bought next year at some point. PS3 is ahead in priority, and aside from the backwards compatibility the upcoming Wii lineup doesn't really attract me yet. However, I really wanted to play Twilight Princess so when I got the chance to get a cheap Gamecube I thought I may as well rather than spend $250 this year just for that game. Haven't actually gotten it yet, may even be able to haggle it down to a $20 gamecube! :lol

In any case, thanks for the suggestions guys. Skies of Arcadia - I still own it for my Dreamcast, so no need for that, great game though.

The Resident Evil remakes are intriguing, though they seem damn difficult to find.

need to beat it on the superior version.

Buy and play Killer 7. You will probably lose your soul and your sanity in the process, but whatever ! It feels so good^__^.

Oh and Metroid Prime 2 : Echoes too. Screw the goddamned haters.

Also, have you played Beyond Good & Evil for any other platform? You should track down a copy if you haven't, great game.

Seems like i didn't tought about those ones and i have to support it

Mario Gold Toadstool Tour
Mario Power Tennis
Mario Strikers

Those simply are the best "Mario sports" ever.

Listen to this man.

Pre-emptive troll: SSBM is not a fighting game lolz

I also highly recommend tracking down an OoT Master Quest disk, if you're a Zelda fan.

Well worth the $40-50 it's going for now.

What the hell happened with this game? I was waiting for it to go Player's Choice like every other Mario game, but instead it went out of print and now sells for $45 used.

You serious? I was waiting for this one to become a player's choice :(

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Super Smash Brother Melee
Eternal Darkness
Metroid Prime
Soul Calibur 2
Super Mario Sunshine
SSX (series-personally, I liked it better on the PS2)
Luigi's Mansion
Viewtiful Joe
Pikmin 1&2

It's almost impossible to get in europe... Except ebay of course, at least €35 used
That's OK, it's a great game indeed. But I could only find a couple sellers in U.K.

Anyway here are my picks
- Viewtiful Joe
- Smash bros ofc
- Legend of Zelda: 4 swords & wind Waker & collectors
- Killer 7
- Pikmin 2 - ignore Cauliflower of Love :)
- Metroid Prime (don't bother with 2)
- Fire Emblem
- Tales of Symphonia
- Baten Kaitos
- Paper Mario 2
- If found cheap, Luigi's mansion & wario world (bad but it's wario! and it's fun!)
- ...

3 Most important games:
- Smash bros
- Legend of zelda: Wind waker
- Paper Mario 2

Nintendo screwed over us cheap asses with these:

-Mario Power Tennis
-Super Mario Strikers
-Mario Superstar Baseball
-Chibi Robo
-Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
-Batalion Wars
-Mario Party 7

These are the only games on the Gamecube I've paid over $20 for. It sucks, but you have to accept the fact: these game's prices aren't going down anytime soon, Nintendo doesn't give a shit about the Gamecube anymore, and no more printings are happening. If you want them, you're going to have to pay 30 bucks plus for them.

Any missing?

GCN is a fantastic system unless you plan on buying 100 AAA games. I'd type up a firestorm of a recommendation list if my roommate wasn't trying to sleep.
