Something unrelated to E3...

So ive bought Odama for 10 Euros and im playing it right now..

And i must say Im impressed...

The voice recognition does not work perfectly.. But this combination of strategy and pinball is unbelievably deep (and hard)

I also like the athmosphere..( The narrator is simply hilarious :lol .. Quote :Nintendo gamers are a rare breed indeed :lol )

I also liked the opening which is very japanese.. yet a funny nintendo parody...

Its sad that this game is notoriously overlooked.. I hope they will revive it on the wii.. ill grab it at 10 euros again thats for sure

There are two types of people in this world: those who like Odama, and those who are rubbish at it. :)

Perhaps that's not quite right, but a lot of complaints I read smacked of people finding it too hard for them to cope with. I'm not the most accomplished player in the world, but I completed it and had a damn good time doing so. It felt unique, and it was genuinely thrilling to urge your men forward and hear them roar back, desperately pushing that bell towards the exit.

It's far from perfect, but I definitely enjoyed it.

EDIT: I'm sure Yoot Saito confirmed he was working on a Wii version of Odama. I think I read it in [excellent UK Nintendo mag] NGamer.

The only critique i have for Odama

the graphics are bad... and i mean wayyy bad...

They should have used the great engine they developed for Pikmin 2

I just picked up Odama recently too, and much as I love Vivarium for making Seaman, I ****ing hate Odama with all my heart and soul. The idea is cool, but the pinball physics are awful and it's way too easy to arbitrarily lose because some enemy sneaks past your guys and ****s up your flippers.

Honestly, I paid $10 for it, and I still feel ripped off.

Its damn hard.. but that doesnt make it a bad game per se

Yoot Saito made a Wii tech demo about Odama, I don't think he's making a full-fledged game yet.

Loved the game myself, but Spider Temple was godawfully hard.

Man you guys have no idea how happy this thread makes me.

I have had this game for a while now. The only reason I bought it, was because I read somewhere that Miyamoto respects the developer, and he thinks that he is very creative. In fact I beleive they are both friends. You could call me a fanboy, but I think I can justify it. I mean EAD do set the benchmark for artistic games. But forget all of that, I figured if Shigsy respects him so much, then there must be something good. So of I went and bought the game. It costed me £22. This was back when I decided to make a collection of GBA and GC games back in the beginning of 2006. I have yet to play it. But I know I will like it, I already have seen many video clips.

The reason this thread makes me happy is because, this is one of the niche games that I actually still have, that Gaffers talk about. This is one of the many games that Gaffers aprove of. Its only after analysing the taste of Gaffers for 2 years did I realise that I belong here. This is very typical of GAF taste gaming. I love this place.

PS - I am a little drunk, sorry to sound a little loved up.

You sir have a point

Now get Excite Truck!

Yoot Saito also had the idea for the Wii mote speaker.. which is.. in my opinion the biggest new invention for a controller force feedback...

I dont care about Multitouch or anything..

This is rumble Version 2...

Too bad that its like the rumble pak for N64.. not quite fleshed out

The game's far from being GOOD, but i just love it.
I can't help it, i dig so so much the whole atmosphere, the trashy concept, the fusion of two genres so distant one another, and the whole quirky feeling Odama gives you.
To me, it's like a strange fascinating little treasure.

And i DO respect Yoot Saito for his attitude in gaming design... people like him, with that avant garde way of thinking, make the whole industry better.
Just like everybody who's not afraid to try new solutions in arts, just like Escher and Dalì.

I bought this game simply because I missed out on Seaman back in the day. I loved it. Its a combination of several very simple game play ideas that when you multi task together create a brain rackingly good game. I made it up to the 5th stage or so in my first sit down with it, but for some odd reason I've not thrown it back in since. I really have no idea why. I loved the game and always meant to play it through to the end.

I guess this topic will finally make me do so.
