LTTP: Stranger Things Season 3

Omfg was that terrible.

How does this show go from the quality of seasons 1 and 2 to the absolute horseshit of season 3?

Ridiculous premise, non-existent character arcs, lazy plot contrivances,.. just shit writing in general.

I'm just gobsmacked. Utterly fucking stunned. Bah. đź‘Ž

Emasculate all the guys and turn them from fan favorites into suddenly incompetent losers, introduce strong empowered highly competent woman as love interest only to reveal that she’s a lesbian at the end to further emasculate one of the male leads and make the whole arc pointless.

I’m season 2 was also horse shit. So what are you talking about? Stranger things had 1 good season and 2 seasons of pretty camera work and editing.

This.
Also what EL wrote.

Season 1 was one of the best things I have ever seen on tv. It's weird how much they deviated from that atmosphere towards the clusterfuck that is season 3.

And yeah, that lesbo reveal in the end was horrible. They spent the whole season teasing that dude and us as the audience with it, and it basically amounted to nothing but a "oh look, a shitty twist".

Rambling on a bit, it's really weird how much they have cut off the balls of that guy already, and even go on cutting away what was left. His going from bully to good person arc in the first season was nice, but what they did with him afterwards is so bad.

Season 3 had some pretty nice CGI, but that's about it. The rest was crap and I'm not sure if I'll watch season 4.

i thought it was the best season so far. but i never thought about it the way evilore described it. that is kind of annoying that they did that.

i guess i was more focused on billy. the guy is a fucking prick, and i was happy to see him suffer. but when they revealed the stuff about his real mom and his dad, i felt bad for him, and i think the nature of the show was also revealed. people never think about why the bully is a bully, we just hate him bc he is. and i think a lot of us are tortured by demons that we dont talk about, or feel like we cant talk about.

as a result, the bully's and the bullied find ways to transfer that energy. some of us do it through DnD and hiding in our nerdy fantasy lands (the boys... or you as the viewer of the Stranger Things), acting out to our parents and running away (eleven and hopper), others do it by being hateful towards others and being a bully (billy... i dont think its any coincidence that his name is so similar tot he word bully), which of course only keeps the cycle going.

and beyond one on one human interactions, i think the show is about growing up together as a nation. there is so much Americana in the third season, its hard to not make that connection. were all pissed off at each other right now (whether the reasons are justified or not). some of us are the bullies, some of us are the bullied, and some of us dont give a shit about any of that lol... but whether you care or not, youre still a part of this country. but it think there has to be a level of solidarity and understanding between all of us, even the hateful ones, bc there is a reason they are hateful, and if we are willing to listen to each other and open up about our own demons, perhaps we can help each other and not fall into tearing ourselves apart.

kumbaya my lord, kumbaya lmao. thats a really cheesy only scratching the surface analysis, but at any rate i really loved season 3 and cant wait for 4!

Season 2 was horrific tho.....and season 3 was a huge improvement

I guess u just prefer having to suffer through 11's awful acting of season 2

I liked it, but it does feel like things are on a downturn. I can’t remember, but I think I had some complaints about the kids not really being the stars of the show anymore, which is really where the soul of it always was.

I’d still watch another one, but maybe not as rabidly, and would wait for impressions. Especially on PedoFlix, which I’ve felt sick to my stomach even thinking about using since that one movie.

Problem is the next season, they won't even be kids anymore, I mean the main bowl cut kid is like 6ft tall now

And 11 is insufferable irl too it seems, think I'm done with stranger things, 1st season was awesome......never recaptured that after

Yeah. I feel like they really missed their window with that for the second and third seasons.

A lot of truth in that, my friend.

As a european kid back then in the early 80ies, I was so envious of all the cool stuff you people had. The US was my little dream land where everything is possible. The Space Shuttle launches, Coca Cola vs Pepsi, Colt Seavers and Knight Rider on tv, Goonies and Star Wars in the cinema, Michael Jackson and Prince, Rap/HipHop/Breakdancing with all those cool black people, Atari, Vectrex and Intellivision in the console space and later on the C64 and the Amiga, etc...

It felt like everything that was cool came from the US.

I loved all that shit so much, and that's what I still like about Stranger Things.
It was an amazing time and the US was an amazing place, and they really nailed the feeling of it.

time to get back to that in the now.

This is why the first season worked so well, it hit all the right notes with a audience of my age, pure nostalgia, the music, toys etc etc

Let's face it the 80's was the last gold age of film and cinema (just look the top 5 80's film thread, pure timeless classics)

The extra seasons didn't really capture that

Music as well, imo.

I loved some of the reconstruction that took place in the 90ies with electronic club music and some other stuff, but generally it never felt the same afterwards.

No cherry slurpee for you.

I get why some might not like it, and turning Steve into a loser was annoying, the bathroom scene and the video store scene especially, but I still like all three seasons.

I thought the weird gang side plot bits in season 2 were worse tbh.

Not a massive 80s music fan, even tho I grew up in the 80s.

I liked it because of the mall aesthetic. In general, it was a very colorful season.

That said, yes, it's way over the top.

I just caught up with the whole series over the past couple of months. Season 1 was amazing, the best for sure. I heard that they originally intended for season 2 to be set in a new place and a new era (90s), and with a completely different set of characters, but had a change of plan because people had already gotten attached to the original cast. Setting 2 and 3 in the same town like they did meant that a lot of the mystery from the first season was lost, but I thought they turned out pretty good anyway (I went in with low expectatios)

I don't think the series has gotten woke at all. I liked the scene with Nancy and Jonathan having that argument in the car. There had been a "poor Nancy is belittled by sexist pigs at work subplot" going on for a few episodes, and when the conversation started I thought "here we go, they are going to lay it on thick now", but surprisingly Jonathan shot back with what a spoiled little rich girl she is and that he has it worse as a boy from the poor side of town. Modern leftism doesn't give a shit about class anymore, and there's no way a cis gendered white male would be allowed to get away with that kind of mansplaining in a woke show.

That said, I'm fully prepared for season 4 to be an absolute shitshow. The fact that the cute kids from season 1 are now fully grown annoying teenagers, and the weird Russian setting I hear they may be going with. Everyone best prepare themselves for the worst.

My favorite part was when the newspaper guys all told Nancy to shut the fuck up and change her tampon every day for the duration of her internship and how I feel like I’m only exaggerating a little bit by saying it that way.

Will probably watch season 4 but I don’t have high expectations.

I enjoyed it for the most part, but I think the show is overstaying its welcome a little bit. I liked the Mall setting, and it made for a cool place to close out the season. I'm wrestling with myself on if I want to watch Stranger Things 4 or not.

Got to imagine the show will be ending soon with the kids getting much older, and the show losing the charm it once had. I think one thing the show has done well is with some development of characters. Steve is probably the best example of it. It has been great to see his character evolve over the show.

I will say though that Season 2 Steve was better than Season 3. I got to agree with those above that didn't like the whole twist they did with the Robin character. Still one of the better characters.

The greatest travesty of season 3 is that it DIDN'T end in a titanic FBI vs KGB "everyone in colored jumpsuits" James Bond style final battle.

I have little interest in season 4. Or the next seasons of a lot of netflix shows. Quite frankly Cobra Kai and maybe the Witcher are about the only things generating any anticipation for me. Nice things like Queens Gambit are great, but are total surprises since Netflix advertises jack shit.

I absolutely loved the third season but I could be biased since the mall they filmed in was my childhood mall.

Really loved the new characters. It would be easy for the show to devolve into the same tropes with the kids but even their relationships seem to change and develop. 80s Teen hunk and his kid sister were brilliant additions.

Really looking forward to the future. A show that attracts a lot of hate because it gets so much deserved love.

I loved 3. Thought it was straight up 80s horror.

Pretty much. Probably why I enjoyed it despite some of the flaws Season 3 had. Stranger Things has always had me because it's big on the throwbacks and I love the synth sounds of the show too. I'm a big sucker for anything 80's horror. I love anything that throwbacks to that era. Season 3 really hit the nail on the head in that sense.

only to reveal that she’s a lesbian
This has become a Netflix staple over the years, go and count how many Netflix shows force Lesbian characters in them and have them as the "wise ones", it has got that obvious even season 2 of The Boys took a shot at it and made a good joke.

But then again, had they made a steamy hot lesbian sex scene to finish the lesbian plot twist we would've all been like "please emasculate everyone more."

Dustin singing that dog shit tune was the "jumped the shark" moment. Won't be watching season 4, I assure you of that.

For what it's worth, I was an 80s kid, too, and absolutely loved the references to 80s culture. But that doesn't rescue it from the fact that it was poorly written and tonally schizophrenic.

Woah, forgot about that one. And those were exactly my words about it.

There were a couple of things I liked that season. Enough for me to watch S4.
But they will never be able to bring back that magic from season 1.

What a weird mixture between gore body horror movie and lazy teen comedy with bad jokes that was.

Maya Hawke Natalia Dyer XXX sex scene is the only thing that could bring me back

They really should've just made it an anthology series with a different cast every season. Now that the kids are older it just makes the Duffer brothers look pathetic trying to recapture the magic of the first season. Move on, do something else.

On that scene..

The scene itself is cute. A little boy singing some shit 80ies song for a girl. I get it.
The problem is the wider context.
The first season took its theme of being an early 80ies themed horror show and its characters seriously.

In the second season it started to feel self aware of its 80ies nostalgia thing, and played around with these tropes.

In the third season they went on full retard with this and just did it for the sake of pandering for the audience, and the moment where the dam breaks and it's completely getting into fulltard territory is that neverending story song scene.
It's just done for nothing else than people can say 'oh how cute and 80ies is this'.

It's the moment where the series jumped the shark.
There is no essence, it doesn't make any sense, and it's just there for effect.
It's like the story isn't important anymore and the series' main thing is nostalgia pandering without any meaningful base to it.

And that's why I strongly feel if you like that scene, good for you.

But, I sincerely doubt your taste and mental capacity for doing so.
