I used to think I was so good at this. I can't crack 100k. Can someone give tips beyond a WHITE PAPER and that sketch posted by Keyser? Or is it really that simple?
yeah. 1.4 million on voyage. Last I checked, I was beating Astrolad just baaarely.
I got like 80k on Master mode as my high school. Level 5 is insane.
I got the credits and playlists trophy only the next time I booted up the game. Pretty weird but I assume it's like that for everyone so maybe good to be aware of.
Avatar trophy left which will take a long time because I keep forgetting it's even there, so I think I have like 190 to go. >_<
Trophies are completely fucked in the game. Most trophies I got only after restarting the game, but two of them (watching credits and using avatar abilities 200 times) simply don't want to register. God bless rushed buggy shit.
This is the worst skin ever. Terrible aesthetic.

When was that? Because when I got the game (somewhere around the 22nd), it got a patch to 1.01 quite soon after that I think. So it might be better now / after you've installed the patch?
So I didn't realize that tapping on the rear touchpad quickly recharged the avatar ability. I think this is a terrible feature and I see people exploiting it to get ridiculous scores. It just doesn't make sense on any level to me. Trying to take advantage of that sort of takes me out of the "trance" I get into when playing the game and it also puts a heavy reliance on special blocks rather than just playing the game "normally".
For anyone that bought digital, does your liva area say "unlock full gam now"? I don't get it...

The key is effective use of the checkered blocks. Don't panic when they show up. They're especially useful for continuing already completed squares that are close to other blocks of the same color. Also, you really need to figure out how the excess blocks fall. So if there's a stack of two blocks, then this happens:
I apologize for the terrible picture.

You're playing Ridge Racer?
Just got a Vita today and the first thing I did was download the Lumines demo. Damn...the music, the quality d-pad...it's all just so good. One thing is bugging me though. The randomizer block seems pretty cool and I'm guessing it can save your ass from time to time, but I feel like it might undermine when I'm trying for a long term strategy. It seemed to pop up quite often. Is there any way to turn it off in the full game?
Regardless, this will be the first game I purchase for my spanking new Vita. Unbelievably cool.
You can't turn it off but it only affects blocks that it touches. So you can leave a space for them if you are planning on building some large chains.
The latest 8-4 podcast has milky on talking about this and nearly made me buy a vita. nearly
Edit: strange...I only have 20 friends but it's saying I can't add anymore...
One thing I must say is that one Voyage can take a long damn time. I played some last night and it took over an hour before I saw a Game Over. I think I ended up around 416k.
I probably could have kept going but one of the faster skins popped up and I was started to feel sleepy which hampered my performance.
I love playing the game but it's a HUGE commitment. When you sit down to break your score prepare to shove aside an hour or two at least and forget about retries. This is one of the reasons why the console versions never worked for me. Lumines is just made for a portable.
Thankfully, fast skins usually aren't lumped up back to back, so you can usually get to a good pause point during a slower skin within a few minutes of play. I'll often extend one "Voyage" over multiple play sessions, clearing a few more skins each time I pick up the game.
I remember doing the same thing with Tetris DS--I got to the point where I could keep a game going piecemeal throughout an entire day, tapping out at around 500-600 lines.
This is actually one of the faster ones too. I remember playing Live for at least 1.5-2 hours per session (3+ laps). Nice thing is there's Master Mode now too which both does away with the avatar cheesiness and gets you right to the heart of the game. I do prefer Voyage though; quite like the whole long experience. One thing I must say is that one Voyage can take a long damn time. So. Has this game improved much from the PSP/XBLA versions? I found the first game to be insufferably boring but I saw the tracklisting for this today and almost messed my pants. It was, just, beautiful. There's a Jam & Spoon remix for crying out loud. I just need to know if the game is more fun this time because if it is, even slightly, this is going to be my first Vita game when I get one.

Fuck that trophy for clearing 30 blocks in the 30 second stopwatch mode. Seems fun to try, then GGRRRAHAHSDUFHVRHHFHCBEJ
If you didn't enjoy the core gameplay of those versions I see little reason why you'd enjoy this one, even if you like the music a lot more. None of the changes drastically alter the experience from the original in my eyes.
Any tricks to getting the play Lumines for 3 hours in one day trophy...
I mean I really like the game but with work and 2 young kids it's pretty hard to play for a solid 3 hours in one day!
Only need that trophy and 200 avatar ability trophies.
