Mural (AKA 9 MINUTES OF PURE LYRICISM)

This album needs a thread because it's that damn good. I may be biased because I'm a huge Lupe stan, but I feel that this is one of the most ambitious hip-hop albums in the last several years - lyrically, sonically, and conceptually. And I feel like could be Lupe's best work (YES - even better than F&L and The Cool). Time will tell if this album becomes a classic, but to me, it's already in that conversation. To me this album puts Lupe back in the discussion among the greatest rappers. HE's BACK. FOR REAL THIS TIME.

I use to be a huge lupe fan, liked him before Food and liquor dropped. But I kinda fell off. I'm in for this, hoping for the best.

I'm pretty new to Lupe, so all I have is initial opinions on his work. Plus I've only listened to T&Y and F&L. That being said, I prefer T&Y as of right now. I dig the beats a lot more.

Excuse me sir, but I'm afraid I'll need to see the receipts.

Is the album title a nod to Akira?

His response to that is weird;

Lupe cleared up rumors and stated that he did not name his album after Japanese manga series Akira character Tetsuo Shima. However, Lupe does admit to being loosely inspired by the biker-gang member. "For me, Tetsuo sounds cool" he stated

How is it being "loosely inspired" if you named it and spelled it the same...wut

Da Gawd is back

Shit is fire, might be as good as the cool (better?)

I gotta let this euphoria wear off and deconstruct/analyze the lyrics before judging

I really really really like this album. Its Lupe's most cohesive, smartest, and best work imo.
Mural is such a good fucking song it boggles the mind.

The album being loosely inspired by the character from Akira probably has a lot to do with the mindset Tetsuo had in the movie and the themes the Lupe touches upon in the album. It makes sense to me.

Yeah, Mural is just something else. I mean...I was left speechless the first time I heard it. I have no clue what he's rapping about but it sounds amazing! It'll take sometime to analyze the whole thing, that's for sure.

He's been too much of a shithead for me to feel comfortable putting any kind of money in his pockets. Real shame since I do love both F&L and The Cool, the former in particular. I'll probably stream it over Spotify on my way to class one day this week.

I cheated and on my second listen I read along with the rapgenius lyrics.
It makes Eminem's Rap God look already sillier than what it was.

This is an album that demands attention. This isn't something you can passively listen to.

Dude rapped for 8 minutes straight without breathing, without a hook, and without blinking (maybe).

Ofcourse it exceeds Rap God and I loved Rap God.

I'll give it a try. Lasers made me stop listening to him, but F&L and the Cool were pretty good, so I'll see if Lupe's back or not.

He did came out with that apology mixtape called Friend of the People and his last album were good. This album will make you forget that Lasers even existed.

So it IS tomorrow. Sweeeeet.

If you're getting it on iTunes it'll be out tonight at 11PM EST.

I might end up doing that after I spend some more time with the album. But yeah, this makes Rap God sound amateur.

Please post your reactions, you and everyone else. :)

Best Lupe since the Cool.

Chopper, Mural, Prisoner 1&2, and Body of Work are my favorites right now.

Lasers was an unfortunate compromise between Lupe and the label. He wasn't happy with a lot of it.

F&L2 is alright, but stumbled a bit more than than early Lupe ever would. I'd still give it a listen.

Album it's really good. His 8-9 minute songs don't feel like a drag. It's just fire. I think delivery and chopper are my favorite songs

A good Lupe Fiasco album, even compared to The Cool?

Either you guys are nuts or he really did it. Will give it a listen some time.

How's the production?

Also, is this streaming anywhere? I know some artists/albums let you stream the album before it officially goes on sale.

Will I be able to buy this at wally world at midnight tonight? Im taking a road trip tonight and this would be perfect for it.

And I still buy cds...
