Lmao at people giving "veredicts" about this album based on a first listen, which was probably done on their phones shitty speakers. This is an album that takes some time to digest.

Fucking great. Lupe is back and at the top of his game. Also S1 and Dahi murdered that production.

Finally got it, and I'm constantly having to look up the meaning of the lyrics. Definitely enjoying though, Mural, Prisoner 1&2 and The Adoration of the Magi are unreal.

Listened to it today.

SO GOOD.

Favorite songs: "Dots & Lines", "Deliver", and "Adoration of the Magi".

The Cool > Food & Liquor > Tetsuo & Youth >>> Food & Liquor II >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lasers

Lupe goes into detail explaining the reasons with atlantic and Old School Love/Next To It/Pussy and how the T&Y album we got was a revised version after those singles didn't work.

They kept saying they were going to break down some of the lyrics, but I guess those parts were edited out. If anyone comes across those clips, please post them.

Not a fan of the hook, although it's pretty clever.

god damn

Crazy in the Sway interview to hear the kind of stuff he had to deal with at Atlantic. Cool that he can just name names now that his contract is done. All that stuff used be brushed aside as excuses, but I mean looking at other acts in history it's a repeating trend in the music industry (Radiohead, U2, etc.). Even thinking back to F&L2 when a lot of criticism said "there's some good stuff in there, but it's overloaded in crap" then you hear that they come to him for Tetsuo and say "here's 7 tracks, put em' on the album or it doesn't come out." Like fuck. Insider sabotage is legit.

Hearing they wanted to slow or stop radio play of Kick Push when it came out is wack as fuck.

I can agree with that. I flip back and forth between F&L or The Cool being better.

Here is the full interview with Sway -
That interview was so real. Lupe truly on his stress free tip. Confident, ready to make art. The label is what forced him to be soft on Lasers and FnF2. He was displeased with those albums. So the fact that his exit album got to come out so clean and unadulterated is insane. He fought for this. Proving to all he still is about that life.

Now come on Black Vietnam.

Interesting to hear the album only came out the way it did because Atlantic was scared of Anonymous' threats of hacking - after seeing what happened to Sony. The ripple effect of that leak is just insane.

edit: derp proven wrong about timeline of events. Sony got hacked afterwards

It's stupid how Cudi got into a beef with Lupe out of nothing.

I think the whole Sony thing happened after Atlantic received that Anon threat and dished out the release date.

How is this compared by F&L? I can't believe that this is being reviewed so well.

The HHDX review bottom line is spot on:

"Whether better than The Cool or worse than Food & Liquor is a distraction. Tetsuo & Youth deserves its own exalted podium."

It's a different album, and excellent in its own right. Is a matter of preference which one is better, but they are in similar leagues.

Ok, someone please tell me I'm not crazy. The instrumental of Prisoner 1 sounds extremely familiar. As in, I feel like I heard it on a 1up podcast/1up show.

Also every soccer Terry Fox moulding, go ahead
Don't stop, go ahead

Liking this album, but some of his lyrics fly over my head..what does this line mean?

You and me both. I might sit down with rap genius open with some of these lines.

And about a week later, I'm liking this album more and more with each listen. It's just so sonically pleasing.

I think I can safely say my top 5 are...

Adoration of the Magi
Dots & Lines
Chopper
Mural
Madonna

Not putting them in order because that would be impossible right now lol.

Someone just called Lupe a "middle of the road" celebrity in a completely unrelated thread and I was about to create a new one about T&Y because dear god Dots & Lines is an early and strong candidate for hip hop song of the year.

I can't hold back the hype train, he IS back.

I dont rmemeber posting here but i love this album. I love this album like i do the cool, because its just as good if not a bit better.

This album is damn flames and Nikki Jean, Sweetheart, you're killing me with that velvet voice on Little Death. This is the type of album you're still listening to years from now

As far as I'm concerned, the first song of an album sets the tone, and gawd damn, did "Mural" hit the mark. 5+ minutes of straight fire. That and "Chopper" are my favorites. In fact, there really isn't a skippable rack out of the bunch. My personal favorite of 2015 so far.

I won't write a long ass review but I will say Lupe surprised me. I've written him off for years, and became one of those bitter Lupe haters that loved his first two albums but felt like he personally wronged me ever since. But this is a good album. The best production I've heard him over, the hooks aren't corny over all, and it's a very ambitious record. There are some mis-steps but overall it's a nice project.

Terrace Martin's sax solo on Body Of Work...crazy.

This album is so classic!

How do I go about getting Nikki Jean to marry my wife and I? Her voice excites me. I'm going to holla on Twitter, wish me luck!

Listened to the album during the the week and still impressed. Lupe truly redeemed himself with T and Y.

Chopper still goes hard too.

This is still the best album to come out this year so far for me. TPAB is a really great album but this one just has me coming back to it. I'm mad I have seen Lupe get a lot of hate for this album tho.

It's hard for me to compare them, but probably would give it to TPAB since I like the structure more.

Love both though for sure. Best two albums this year so far.

Lupe is back after 2 crap shoots, Kendrick killing it with TPAB.

2015 is great for my hip hop playlist so far :)

Really excited to see what Lup does next now. Hope he keeps it up.

America didn't deserve two classic rap albums this early in the year. I keep going back and forth w.this and TPAB. I feel bad for rap fans that died before hearing these albums.

I hate guns and Lupe's verse on Chopper makes me want to buy an AR-15. Chopper is easily in my Top 10 posse cuts. The beat is so intoxicating and even mesmerizing while blazed. I use Chopper as a measure of time. Ran a mile in under 1 Chopper, took me two Choppers to walk home from Barcade last week etc...
