NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - M&M's is reminding adults that candy isn't just for kids.

A new line of Mega M&M's, which on average are 55 percent bigger than the originals, were introduced Thursday at Grand Central Station in Manhattan.

"It's the candy that everyone loves, but with a bigger chocolate taste," said Masterfoods USA spokeswoman Joan Buyce. Masterfoods USA owns the M&Ms brand and is a part of privately-held food manufacturer Mars, Inc.

While Mini M&M's are popular among moms and kids, the new, bigger M&M's are designed with adults in mind. "It broadens our portfolio so there's something for everyone," Buyce said.

The new M&M's are available in milk chocolate and peanut varieties and come with an "adult-oriented" color scheme that includes teal, beige, maroon, gold, brown and blue-gray.

M&M's launched limited-edition "Ogre-sized" M&M's last year after "Shrek 2" was released, but this time, the mega-sized candies are here to stay as part of the M&M's permanent line.

"They're not an in and out item," Buyce said. The last change M&M made to its permanent line was the addition of Crispy M&Ms in 1998.

Mega-sized M&M's sell for $2.79 for a 12.6 ounce bag or $4.15 for a 19.6 ounce bag.

M&M rules no matter shape or flavor(peanut, plain, peanutbutter, and almond)

wish these were also in peanutbutter flavor(tied for favorite with peanut)oh well like I said M&Ms rule...

I've gotta tell ya': I've got a bag of Mega M&Ms right here, and I'm really disappointed. I was expecting a package of, like, five HUGE M&Ms. But there's are only slightly larger than a regular M&M, despite what the PR says.

(Introduced Thursday my ass. I bought these Tuesday.)

This is good news. The Shrek M&M's from last year were about the size they're talking about, and for some reason -- perhaps the greater chocolate-to-candy shell ratio -- they were better than regular M&M's.

Oh and yes, they do sell Peanut Butter M&M's and they do indeed rule.

Xsarien: I'm not sure what you were expecting when it says "55 Percent bigger." That's pretty much just adding a half of an M&M to each one.

Except the package doesn't say that. There's just a scale diagram on the back that you don't notice until you're well on your way out of the store.

Peanut butter M&Ms would just be reese's pieces. :-p

They taste different because Reese's Pieces have no chocolate, while peanut butter M&M's have chocolate surrounding the peanut butter.

I love peanut M&M's...

Whenever I am in Vegas, I make sure I go to M&M world and get like a 1lb of peanut M&M's, just pick away at them while I am on vacation....

I've been buying these for a month in Albuquerque NM....

They are pretty good. I wish they would bring back the dark chocolate ones from the star wars promotion

How in the holy hell did I miss out on those? :(

I got the peanut ones last week. They were alright. More chocolate = good. A lot of them were no bigger then regular peanut M&Ms, but there were some fucking colossal ones too.

I remember when I was in vegas in 98, and the M&M world was giving out free sample bags of the new Crispy M&M, and I ate one, and was disgusted... Then for some reason I ate the whole bag, and they grew on me, and now I think they are very good...

Not as good as peanut, but good... :D

you know how they have those giant Hershey's Kisses? The ones that they sell as gifts at Hershey Park?

I always thought M&M's would be awesome that big.

Does anyone remember Mint M&Ms? I could have sworn that I tried them once, and I think they came in a very light brown bag..

Peanut M&M's are the best. They should make mega peanut M&M's with two peanuts instead of one.

Hell yes, mint M&Ms were the shit. I think they did away with them in favor of crispy M&Ms. It must have been like 10 years ago, they came out with the peanut butter, almond and mint flavors all at the same time.

i'd actually buy a bag of M&Ms if they made them from dark chocolate instead of crappy milk chocolate.
They did... but only for a couple of months. The Star Wars Ep 3 M&Ms (http://us.mms.com/us/mpire/ ) had dark chocolate and dark chocolate peanut to go with the dark side theme. The dark chocolate M&Ms kicked ass... if I knew they would only be around for such a short time, I would have bought a box or two of them.

Peanut butter m&ms and crispy m&ms (which you guys forgot about) are of the hook. :D
So true. The crispy M&Ms are amazing. I'd totally forgotten about them.

MandM's

1.Mint
2.Dark Chocolate
3.Peanut
4.Crispy
5.Peanut Butter

Mint MandM's are around during the spring at least they were around here. Dark Chocolate you can get at any of the MandM mini kiosks (Six Flags Magic Mountain, Knotts Berry, Universal City Walk)

Peanut Butter has been MIA for a while where did they go? And Crispy is getting harder to find in my area as well.

Snickers Mixed Nut bars were good too. Almond, Cashews, Peanuts, Wallnut mmm good stuff.

I forgot about the dark chocolate ones. Dark chocolate peanut M&M's were fantastic.

I just don't get the point of slightly larger M&Ms. It's not as if anyone is just eating one of them and desires a slightly larger serving. It's an attempt to un-kiddy M&M... while still retaining anthropomorphic candy on the package?

Do they still make Peanut Butter M&Ms?

plain=brown bags
peanut=yellow bags
peanut butter=orange bags
crispy rice=blue bags
almonds=beige bags

I think they make dark chocolate now too, but that might have just been for star wars (beaten)

I must have some...

More research has uncovered this sad news item from 2002:

"Masterfoods has stopped distribution of caramel-filled M&M's, according to published reports. The special M&Ms were targeted at Hispanic consumers and received strong advertising and promotional support in markets where the company was testing the new flavor, including Miami, Los Angeles and San Antonio. "

In other news, Hispanics love caramel!

I like high % cocoa dark chocolate. That's about it.

Eh

Almond M&Ms are the master M&M.

Peanut M&Ms are decent.

Never understood the appeal of Peanut Butter ones... I wanted to like them, but they taste "off" -- Reeses Pieces are good, Peanut Butter M&Ms are sort of bland. Too much chocolate, not enough peanut butter.

Son of a bitch...

I went to Las Vegas FOUR times during the summer of 2003, and not once did I visit, nor even have knowledge of M&M World. WTF.

They're 55% bigger than regular M&Ms, if you were 55% percent taller than the average guy you would be about 9 feet tall. Wouldn't you say that justifies the 'Mega' name?

Volume and a single dimension aren't the same thing. A 150 pound guy doesn't look a whole lot bigger than a 100 pound guy
