Having been introduced to Ulrich Schnauss as recent as the evening of April 12 in my "ambient..." thread, it was a pleasant surprise to unexpectedly see him open for M83 tonight. He came on around 10. He was a little shy in the beginning, looked and played that way at least, but by the last song he was headbanging right along with his rapidly pounded synth chords. His music is awesome, especially for chilling. Some of my friends found it weird to just watch the guy play synth while all other layers of the song were pre-recorded, but so what.
M83 came on around 11. They were awesome from the start. Wow, words cannot describe this experience. Anthony Gonzalez is great at both guitar and synth - though it is evident that he doesn't do that much on stage, as most of the stuff he composes is pre-recorded. The drummer was extremely good and set a great "thunderous" atmosphere to the show. The bassist was crazy - headbanging and dancing all over the place.
Anyway, I wish I had brought my digital camera, but I forgot. So it goes. I just wanted to share my experiences with these two amazing musicians as I know there are other fans lurking on GAF.
