Is it worth paying an extra $400 - $800 or to get an updated MacBook Pro? Does the Penryn processor and multi-touch trackpad justify getting the new MBP? I can get older Pros at the prices below, but I'm not sure if the newer Pros justify spending the extra cash.

Not worth the money at all. But just know the older MBP's get hot as hell. I cringe everytime I see my friend using it, the CPU goes up to 70-80C transferring pictures. :lol

I also don't remember Apple making 2.4ghz C2D with 128mb 8600GT, all that I've seen, even the ones for Educational stores (YorkU) all had 256mb.

to answer the OP's question, No, it is NOT worth paying more, MBP's are overpriced no matter how you slice it (I have one myself) but these ones at these prices are more than enough for whatever you need.

The older pros at the prices below are still way more than you should be paying for a similar speced laptop, so unless you have to use a mac, try to find so other laptops :lol

slickdeals/fatwallet ftw

What do you mean no?

You can find a 14-15" laptop with a C2D, 2gb of ram, dedicated graphics card, dvd burner and big harddrive for under $1000, but if the OP HAS to use a Mac then go with the older (which isn't that older) model.

I don't think you get it.

Out of curiousity, can you get this deal with a DVD burner? i can't believe Macbooks even have the option for a CD-RW/DVD-ROM.

The Pros don't have non-burner drives. The specs on both of those machines are completely wrong. I wouldn't buy one unless I saw it in person and the "About This Mac" section listed the right parts.
