just finished ep 40 of M7. I'm loving the character growth. Basara and Gamlin is the best broship and Gigil was cool, he ended up being pretty hot blooded. Went out like a bro, loved it.

This show is seriously padded. At least it proves that Gamlin is a closet perv, surprised he didn't nose bleed over Mylene's panty shots. Still not as good as the entire school chasing after Sheryl's panties in that one episode of Frontier.

Not exactly liking the idea of Max volunteering for a fucking suicide mission. Miria wanted to go too, that would've at least increased his chance for survival. I have that weird feeling Ray is going to eat the death Ozma should've had. I hope Akiko doesn't offer to make the guy a pineapple salad...and god damn Akiko is hot in her Chun Li dress. Miria giving Mylene her old wings was a tear jerker.

And I'm done. All in all Macross 7 was a flawed but entertaining series. Gamlin was clearly my favorite character growth wise and he was the broest bro to ever bro, loved him. I actually wanted more of Sivil and Basara being friendly but hopefully there's some of that in the expanded stuff.

That is more or less how I felt about the series after first watching it. I almost didn't even give it a chance, as after the first episode or two, I was just like... what the fuck is this shit? But then after awhile I came back to it and gave it a serious go and yeah, I came out of it absolutely loving the series as this weird but awesome addition to the Macross canon. It definitely helped having people Max and Miriya there to sort of bridge it and SDF Macross. It's influence on the series is obviously seen in stuff like Delta, and to a lesser degree Frontier. Basara remains a difficult character to love. Maybe you grow to like him, or at the very least understand that he has this weird dream/desire that he absolutely refuses to give up on; He'll move that fucking mountain. He'll make the galaxy hear his song.
-- I could be pulling this out of my ass, but I thought I read somewhere, once, that some of what Basara was singing about was meant to be a commentary about the apathy/suicide rate of Japan at the time. Again, not sure if that was accurate but it would make sense, if true. Alot of the music has a very positive message about self actualization, hope, that sort of thing.
-- It was also fascinating seeing the series all but lack the traditional love triangle. You think it's going to be Mylene to Basara and Gamlin (which was a switch from the traditional 2 girls 1 guy makeup) but it very quickly becomes apparent that Basara and Mylene are never going to be a thing. He has no interest in her and she never goes beyond maybe a mild interest phase; you end up with Basara/Sivil? and Mylene/Gamlin.
-- While the recycled animation gets rightfully called out, I actually enjoyed alot of the unique combat in the series. I also loved Battle 7 and just how fucking badass it felt when it brought out the Macross Cannon. I loved some of the frenetic combat engagements that the series had; in particular those surrounding planet Lux.
Zero and Plus should probably be on your radar in the future. They are both short but interesting and I think some of Zero may have significance in where Delta goes in the future. Just a hunch, but it seems likely to have some relevance.

I honestly think Basara is the most stagnant character in this show, but you just learn to deal with him and realize that everybody except Gabil's dumb ass grows by being around him and literally listening to his song. Mylene wouldn't know the power of her true heart being expressed through her music, Gamlin would still be tight assed, Gigil wouldn't have become all emotional and so one. He's a demented space hippy but he's true to his cause. Basara has no interest in any female of that show till Sivil sucked half the fucking life out of him and blew off his clothes in the process. I think it needed more of Max and Miria and what the fuck with Ray and Akiko, they did nothing with their relationship at the end.

This messer focused ep was great, and lmao dude gets swole. Really like how delta battles has primarily been in fighter mode. It's cool that hayate didn't turn out to be so self centered and got used to team work p quick. Can't wait till he starts consistently doing maneuvers with mirage that is shown in the op. Even though it has only been 9 ep it seems like it took forever until mirage gets some focus. Next ep preview hints at it!
Im definitely enjoying this show a lot more than Frontier.

I finished ep 8, couldn't find ep 9 for some odd reason. Hayate at some point needs to start playing for keeps though. Windermereans are assholes though, something tells me they're not above torturing people. And yep Mirage's ninja flash bang trick did not work at all.
