I voted for Kerry, but you still won. Huzzah! Now get us cleanly out of Iraq and do some good, because my Redskins didn't lose for nothing!

It's sad that the repubs gave Kerry props legitimately in the other thread, but this will be nothing but Bush-bashing.

What's he done worth praise besides barely hold off what should have been breeze to overcome? :D

I'll post what I wrote in my journal last night and later posted at OA:

I'm pretty fucking depressed right now. Something needs to change in the Democratic party; they're simply getting raked over the coals by this "conservative" country. With Bush winning the republicans now control the White House, Senate, House of Represenatives and Supreme Court. That's not good for EITHER party.

Frankly, it's all about morals now. No amount of facts or wrongdoing by this current administration could have changed the mind of the republican voter. They simply see the democrats as too progressive and not grounded in the "BIBLE BELT WITH NICE FAMILY" morals. Plus, with a huge gay-marriage ban being pushed in conspicuous states, *cough OHIO*, the republicans were coming out in droves to support this legislation, and thus, Bush.

John Kerry, you greatly raised my interest in politics, and for that, I HATE YOU! Kidding.. anyway, he ran an incredibly competitive race against a republican machine that's been spinning for 20 years now, and I'm proud to say he had my support. Eight months ago, John Kerry didn't stand a snowballs chance in hell against Bush, but he showed America a different plan and effectively staved off a ridiculous amount of negative campaigning against his character that spanned a period of 6 months.

Finally, props to Bush. Even though I hate the bastard, I'm gonna support him since he is our president, and you can bet your ass I'll be calling him out should he continue to make stupid decisions. Hopefully, in an attempt to shape his legacy, he reaches across the aisle more to unite this country. That may be too big of a dream, though.

I nearly shed a tear watching John Kerry's concession speech earlier today. Say whatever you want about him, but it's obvious he cares for this country greatly, and I respect the fact that he chose not to turn this election into a legal matter.

I added in the concession speech part ealier this afternoon. What a great moment..

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
That even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do.

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul.

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand over your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead.

in bush's defense to the smear campaign that kerry suffered (which was bad), the local "not sponsored by any candidates" ads that have been running were fucking ridiculous.

bush and the saudis
bush losing your jobs
bush getting rid of ALL overtime

now I don't listen to the radio or watch TV a ton, but I have seen these three plus more ads smearing bush, literally just flat out saying he is a dick, for around a month now, and haven't seen one recent smear campaign going on in my area.

so while kerry most certainly dealt with a nasty character attack during all of this, so did bush. and frankly I am embarrassed for myself that this is the way political campaigns are run in this country.

I'm afraid to give Bush props, it might give people the impression I think he's not the Antichrist.

Well, unless Bush does some good for the country, then I will give him the credit that he deserves.

For me, his past records are just too horrible and disgusting to really consider him as the leader of the free world. He will need to prove himself worthy of credit - and that's only way to get some real support from the other half of the population who didn't vote for him - including myself.

Props for what? He was a fuck up when he entered office. I gave him slack then. I waited a until that ridiculous Axis of Evil speech before I ever laid into him, but that was the beginning of the end. He's a fuckup now, and he'll still be a fuckup in 4 years. I see no reason to support him b/c he's president. I don't support idiots. I'm not gonna moan and groan, his first term didn't affect me in the least. But it doesn't make me comfortable, and I fear mostly for the disadvantaged who will get railroaded now, especially with neo-cons now owning both the Legislative and Executive branches. And I don't think I'm bitter, I'd say the same thing for Kerry, just less so. The 2-party system is fucked, and now we're gonna see how bad. What's coming, more tax cuts on top of a recession and war spending, the first annual installment of the Mess-O-Potamia is coming due in a few months and conservative Supreme Court justices. Forgive me if I'm not falling over myself to find the silver lining in this train wreck. Overreacting? Maybe. But if they could steamroll the Patriot Act by us without full control of Congress, I don't care to see what else is gonna happen. And THIS is how you had Napolean and Hitler and other such screwups rising to power. Even total fucking assholes can gather a base, especially when it's one so bleetingly stupid as the religious right. OK...I had to say that, flame away. I'm gonna smoke a bowl and forget about it for a few more hours. *sigh* I'll be fine in a few days, but this stung just as bad back in 2000. :( PEACE.

I'll give him props if he doesn't TOTALLY screw up the country in the next four years, otherwise the gloves are off.

It's go time Dubya.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
The war, the economy, the supposed lies... none of that mattered... voters were galvonized over one issue more than any other: gay marriage. And quite frankly, I'm very depressed at how America has spoken. I don't hate Bush, or the Republican party, but I do hate that this issue has seemingly polarized the nation.

I've found my calling though, my legal career will be focused on family law, and I will spend my career fighting for gay rights in both marriage and adoption. So props to Bush for giving me direction.

I give him props for somehow getting people to think it was him they were voting for, instead of Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld et al

Sorry to contribute to the trashing of this thread btw, really.

When I realized this, the first thing that went through my mind was "God damn it, Chris Kohler was right!"

Ah yes, the comparisons to Hitler are happening again. Real mature.

Anyways, I want to give props to Kerry for his concession speech. I'm so glad he went above the litigation hell that plagued the 2000 election and bowed out gracefully.

edit - dammit, didn't see the other thread...

It would have been hypocritical of democrats as a whole not to concede when the popular vote was already clinched.

Also, his cabinet/administration... I'm more upset about four more years of those folks. Ugh! They managed to make Federal employees worry about job security and completely zapped what ever moral was left.

gay marriage may have been part of the equation, but he still lost States like Michigan where the proposal passed...

Look at some basic things about the man:

-he graduated from Harvard
-he graduated from Yale
-he's estimated to have an IQ comparable or better than Kerry's
-he won against a popular Governor in Texas
-he won the Presidency in 2000
-he just won the Presidency again

now, I can understand how boiling things down to simplistic "he's stupid" remarkes can come about through emotion, but my guess, the joke is on those who underestimate him because he's not the most eloquent communicators around (which actually has little to do with intelligence levels)...

In the words of Jon Stewart, "Nerf crossfire?" WTF were they gunning at him with, wiffle balls? Come on, Iraq is a mess of his own making, and the coverage of that situation has actually declined in the last 6 months. If they wanted to gun for him, they could have tried focusing on some of the issues like, the economy, civil liberties, broken campaign promises from 2000, etc.... That's gunning for him. They media did what they always do, they just pushed the sensational/irrelevant crap to get ratings. Howard Dean got it worse in his brief primary run than Bush did all the last two years. You honestly can't blame the media for Iraq, and it would have been completely negligent of them to ignore the chaos in Iraq. They filter it enough as is. PEACE.

Now that's bullshit. Not because it's not possible that he does have a high IQ, but because it is IMPOSSIBLE to gauge without actually testing the individual. And a real thorough and accurate IQ test is long and has many, many parts to it to gauge every major cognitive function in a controlled environment.

I should know, since I've been tested twice.

Compared to Kerry, Bush is just an ignorant person, Kerry was always doing something productive, not getting drunked and quiting yale or ignoring orders from your superiors........i mean after reading and watching the latest shows regarding both candidates, one person might actually think that either Americans are being brain washed or are just plain stupid(no offense).........

Ok... since the IQ thing is an estimate, I'll ignore it. Of course, IQ tests or tests of any kind are not the be all or end all indicator of intelligence. To me, the best sign of Bush's intelligence is the fact that he leans so heavily on his advisors, and the numerous bad decisions and fuck ups he's made during speeches. It's one thing to be a bad communicator, but that performance in the first debate was simply apalling to watch. A retarded monkey or even you could do a better job than that sorry display I saw on television.

You can chalk his education to Daddy's connections.

You can chalk the elections to Karl Rove and the Swift Boat groups.

To sum up my post: What was your point again... efralope?

Onto the props things:

It's easy for conservatives to give "props" when their guy is in office. It's also easy for conservatives to give props when the guy they are running against is a moderate. I'm not going to give props to a fuckjob of a president.

Also, to all the GWB Supporters (note: not all conservatives) at GA:

Bite me. Seriously, biting my nuts off would be less painful than the pang I got when I saw the election results.

Yeah, I'm a sore loser. Anyone with a brain in their head should be howling at the results of this election. Unless of course, they are a rich WASP or equivalent.

Bush might not know how to spell big words nor make a complete sentence. However, he had more tactical intelligent than Kerry. At certain parts of the campaign he forced Kerry into 'who is a better republican' or 'who is better at my policy, me or him'. He forced Kerry into saying agreeing with the popular side of topics, even if Kerry's plan did not. All this bullying resulted in a lot of 'flip flops'. Bush was the far better tactician, he was better at manipulating the American people than Kerry.

Getting in to Harvard and Yale because of family connections (as do many people still to this day, although I think one of them may have overturned the favortism thing) isn't going to grant a dumb person a brain whereby he miraculously write and think to the necessary extent needed to succeed at those schools...

that's like saying Obama and Keyes education at Harvard can be attributed to their race...

maybe their acceptance into Harvard can, but unless they've been pulling a massive scheme under everyone's eyes, I doubt a call from anyone's daddy is going to turn a crap essay or assignment into something the professor deems "passing"...

how anybody who can seriously be labeled "dumb" or "stupid" in terms of intellectual ability can get through Harvard and Yale is beyond me...

Son, going to Yale/Harvard does not guarantee that you are smart for the rest of your life.

To do it cleanly will take years. If we just pack our bags and leave now, the chaos already in Iraq will competely consume it.

Not the best analogy, but the reconstruction of Germany and Japan after world war II didn't happen overnight.

Iraq was by no means an aggressor on the same scale as Germany or Japan.

Man, who cares if Bush is smart or stupid or righteous or evil? You know what is stupid? People blaming Bush, Karl Rove, the media, the electoral system, born-again Christians, Southerners, readers of the Left Behind series, homophobes, Amish, people slashing the tires of Democratic vote registrants, and everyone else except the Democratic Party for Bush's victory. The fault lies in the party's failure to read correctly the issues that voters cared about this time around -- and when they did read them, they assumed incorrectly that the majority of voters were sick of Bush and didn't want to give him a chance to work on the issues on his second term.

In short, the Democrats needed a better (or simpler) package to present to voters. I think Gore had the same problem, and I'm more than happy with giving props to the Bush election campaign for successfully pulling off their strategy. If the Democrats want to advance in 2006 and 2008, it has to do more than appeal towards the exasperated part of the US population.
