WB angel needs to be better than this

Hopefully yeah, but that's not a bad card by any means.

He should have been banned a while ago. All the head people in the DCI and starcity were aware of his past. You can't backtrack now. He shouldn't have been in the tournament in the first place. Taking away his prizes now is just admitting your own ineptitude.

I would rather them admit ineptitude then let someone cheating, especially as brazenly as Bertoncini, walk away with 10K+ in prizes. I dunno, I think SCG did the right thing here. Some folks are worried about the retroactive ruling, but I highly doubt we would have seen something like this if the person wasn't cheating. I think this is better for the community in the long run.

The only reason he is having his prize revoked is because the community raised such a stink. None of this would be happening if that initial blog post had not been made, which is even sadder. I just think he should never have been competing in the first place. Starcity is trying to save face at this point. I don't condone cheating in Magic in any form, however, I also don't think Starcity should be able to revoke his prize to save face within the community. They let him play and should live with it.

He was under investigation at the time of entering, and DCI's policy is "innocent until proven guilty." Otherwise, I agree with barring him from play before it got that far. That said, I don't see what's so sad about the blog post. It laid out a case, and made and provided video footage, so it wasn't as though it was a bunch of baseless rumors whipping the crowd into the frenzy. I'm glad the community backlash was able to pressure SCG into revoking the prize.

I still say letting a cheater walk away with the prize money would've hurt the community in the long run, by encouraging sly tactics, "ooops" style sloppy plays, etc, as well as discouraging newer players looking to make the break. Who wants to drop money on a play ticket, invest time and money into building a deck, just to lose to a guy who can Brainstorm for 4 cards?

Glad the cheater got his due.

On a more pleasant note, I got into the MTGO beta! The new client is 1000000000x better, damn. The cards look awesome too!

There is also no evidence of him cheating in the actual event. Give him the prize and eat the backlash.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree, he did cheat to get himself in the door. It's a messy situation to say the least.

Anxious for the teasers for DKA to start surfacing! It's getting close to that time.

Its pretty scary that they can just take away the 10000 prize, even if he was a cheater. It makes sense to take away his Power Nine- he shouldn't be qualified to be the Player of the Year if he was a cheater- but that is the one thing they CANT take away because he already has it.

Went to my first FNM in years.

8-man sealed. 2-0, 2-0, 1-2 for second place. Awesome! EXCEPT WE FORGOT TO DO PRIZE POOL. Went home with a promo land that everyone got. lololol

Was fun as hell though. Pulled a Liliana which is great. Great addition to my home draft pools.

whatever happened to MTG:online? it used to be a great offline database of every card with deckbuilding assets. i downloaded it recently and it seemed like all that functionality was gone. :(

Went 3-2 with my MBI deck last night.

I felt kind of bad about the fourth round. The dude was playing Grixis control.

First game he mulliganed to 4, and that went about as well as you'd expect it would for him.

The second game, I turn 1 despise, made him discard liliana. I surgical extraction-ed it so he lost all in the deck. Turn 3 whispering specter turn 4 lashwrith, swing for 5, sacrifice specter to make him discard 5 cards, one of the cards he discards is olivia, and I surgical extraction that. Was more or less game at that point. I felt kinda bad. The guy didn't say a word, but you could look at him and see he was livid. Just fuming.

Why feel bad. You got some nut draws, that's part of the game.

It was just how pissed he looked. All while not saying a word. Made me feel like a dick. If I had the chance I wouldn't do it differently because I'm a competitive person, but yah.

I played Caleb Durward's Veteran Explorer deck over the weekend at my first legacy outing in months. Redeemed my faith that Legacy still does cool things and the format wasn't just snapcaster jerkin' vs. equipped hatebears.

In non-constructed chat, made my first cash finish in a draft at a local shop.

U/R deck with human tribal sorta-theme. Mostly just butcher's cleaver on delver of secrets et cetera. Opened up a manor Gargoyle pack one, got passed 2 Mindshriekers and got two skaarsdig cultists and a traitorous blood for combat tricks. Lost my first match but I sweeped the next 4 games which got me second place.

Gotta say I'm getting into drafts in a big way these days.

She certainly looks BW. She has black lips and eye shadow. And she wears black armor. I'd hope she would be 5cmc cuz I want to make a BW EDH deck, and even though I like Vish Kal, 7cmc is heavy.

I ordered the UltraPro Mountain and Forest Deck Boxes online because I have the other 3 and apparently they're out of print.

Got the package today, except the package was like 1/2 inch thick. Turns out they shipped me the SLEEVES instead. They got the mountain/forest thing correct tho lol.

I thought I'd keep the sleeves and call it a day (since they're worth $5 more than what I paid for the deck boxes each), but I heard they're pretty crappy/stick/have uber sharp corners/break easily. Any opinions?

Shouldn't we be getting a flood of spoilers soon? Prerelease is in less than a month.

Official previews start monday. Menendian and Chapin just tweeted about it actually:

@mtgaaron Sorry! My bad! My phone, it senses preview season coming soon and is very excited!

I also want some new werewolves to round out my WW deck.

I love in the Feature article he ends with
Finally, there is another planeswalker whose presence will impact—and already has extensively impacted—the tale of Innistrad. His past is woven with the history of this world, and his return after an extended absence will uncover long-buried secrets. Although his humanity was cast off long ago, his purpose on Innistrad will reveal surprising allegiances. His identity is secret for now, but we will learn what role he has to play in the fate of Innistrad very soon.

Scroll down, giant art of Sorin

How very subtle.

(It would be great if it wasn't Sorin, who instead appears in the next set)

I'm loving the fact that of the 12 people in my department, 11 have become hooked on MTG in the last 2 months.

Get nice good matches every lunch break now, so good.

It's a money hole that knows no limits. You start creating a deck and it sounds fantastic so you go through with it and play with it a few games but then you find another deck that appeals to you and start finding the pieces for it and it just doesn't end.

My God it doesn't end...

Play limited and limited only.

Do 1 or 2 booster drafts/sealed decks. Then for subsequent games, recycle the pool of cards.

1) Saves money (one time purchase of the boosters)
2) No one wins because they spent $X more than you did on your deck
3) You can play all sorts of decks
4) Games involve both your MTG playing skills as well as your drafting skills

Limited is so incredible, it completely changes how you play the game. You start to see the value in more then the top 10% of cards in a set.

Yes.

I find it a lot more fun to use less powerful cards because you kind of have to think. You do get fewer chances to play a themed deck, but it feels awesome to see all sorts of cards being used and not just the same stuff everyone has in their netdecks.

+1 for the Limited bandwagon. Probably the most skill-intensive sanctioned format.

Went 3-1 last night with a creature-less deck in triple ISD.

My buddies tried an 8-player commander. Shit took so long, everyone eventually conceded lol.

Yeah, 6 player commander in our group is usually for the "we don't really feel like devoting that much energy to playing, but Friday nights are Magic hang-out night, so we'll play a long unwieldy game with a few exciting moments and watch funny youtube videos" nights.

Ya, it's fun at first and then after a while it takes so long and people try to make more complicated schemes that we just give up.

Ya, that sounds ideal if you're going to do it. We just gather at the comic shop by us to play usually and so you don't really have opportunities like that. The couple times we played like 10 way multiplayer at a friend's house was a lot of fun though.

What I do is only spend money on drafting or sealed for release events and trade the pulls for edh staples. That way I'll only get cards that gain value in the long run and never have to worry about my decks rotating. Some stores like the one I used to go to in college even allow you to use your prizes on store credit for older packs or future events.

If you get a group of friends it's not bad tough. There are 4 or 5 of us that got along well and we will loan cards to each other to try out decks. As long as the person who owns it isn't using it we'll borrow cards no problem to complete decks for friday night magic. Still nice to own the card I guess but it makes it fun to have an idea, build the deck and then see it work.
