I had a very similar deck for a while. I thought it was fun. I ended up just turning into an aggro tempered steel deck that performs way better than it should.

My Worst Card entry:

Because if there is one thing the world needed, it was a hoser for the stupidest ability ever.

*slowclap*

I remember an Inquest from back when I still played where they had one of the editors and some PT player both make a deck with 3 of their 'worst' cards, and it had to be central to their winning strategy/had to make legit use of all 3 cards. I want to say it was like wood Elemental, Carnival of Souls, Black Carriage, Sorrow's Path...um...goblin rock sled maybe? and one more I can't recall offhand.

Ahahaha, door to nothingness.

The dragon is very cool from a flavor perspective.

It's like Millstone, they print it because they know someone's going to go "maybe I can finally make that lifegain/mill/prismatic deck I've been dreaming of for so long".

And this guy is very interesting, very interesting indeed...

He'd be more interesting if he was big enough to actually deter attacks. I mean after they've attacked you 5 times you're so deep into the game that you're either dead or a 3/3 isn't going to present much board presence.

I could be wrong, and it's a great idea from a flavor perspective at least.

God can we just have the whole set spoiled already? WOTC seems content to drag their feet. ""Hurr let's take a week long break during spoiler season then return showing off cards that have already been spoiled from official sources (DOTP or facebook) or cards like 3 people care about, Durr"

He would be at least an 8/8 because of the counters.

he gets counters though, so he'd be an 8/8 by the time he can attack or block.

He works well with the new ajani, bond beetle (M13 card that costs one green to put a 0/1 into play that lets you put a +1/+1 counter on a creature), hunger of the howlpack, timberland guide, that new red ring (seems a perfect fit for the ring actually) and travel preparations. Lots of ways to get him up to 5 counters quicker.

Oh durr, he get's bigger. Hur durr. Sorry sometimes I just completely fail to actually *read* the card and my brain just supplants it with it's own thing.

lol don't feel bad, I was playing with a card in my primary deck for a good month before someone pointed out there was a second ability at the bottom that I had just never bothered to read.

Played Magic when I was a teenager a looooong time ago (seriously long ago - the expansions I remember are Homelands-Mirage). And by "played" I mostly mean drooling over my card art and reading InQuest, and playing with the really weird kid who was 5+ years older than me but was the only person I knew who even knew the game existed. He kicked my butt every time and anything half-decent I had I lost as ante.

That was it. Until Magic DotP 2013 rekindled my interest.

Quickly bought an Event deck and two Avacyn Restored boosters. Pulled a $10 Mythic from one of the boosters too, ha. It's like the game was welcoming me back.

Now I'm organizing some casual play among my friends and co-workers (I work at IGN which has a big enough nerd contingent to get something going), and thinking about hitting up FNM.... I'm pretty much back in full force. Will buy a 2013 Deck Builder's kit as soon as they come out.

It's nice that A) I'm an adult and can afford (within reason) to pick up what I want/need B) I live in a big nerd-friendly city like SF now instead of Iowa, where it was a lot tougher.

Hopefully the hobby sticks this time.

yo I'm gonna make it work and make it to FNM too man. I need to get my legs stretched and kick some ass like I used to.

Really interested to see where Slumbering Dragon will end up tier wise.

Creatures that rely on generating counters to be effective usually don't go far. You bounce that guy and he becomes a blank again until he can generate counters again.

Dies to Vapor Snag.

But seriously, I think needing to have so many counters on it will limit its usefulness. I like it less as a creature to look forward to and more as an answer to fast aggro decks with lots of haste or that try to overrun you with little creatures.

Which is better? Or which is worst?

If only the dragon could block. Useless for 5 turns? Hmmm. Put increasing savagery on it.

is reprinted baby! Not surprised with all the Serras back.

So happy to see other InQuest readers on GAF! I miss that magazine so much.

I remember that article! Elder Spawn was the last card.

I left the card I find more useful visible. It's a guaranteed 4 damage if they choose to have the creature not resolve or maybe it costs a removal spell, plus you get a 4/3 body. I'm surprised it's not finding use anywhere, especially with Mindslaver in the format.

Keru_Shiri, I used to religiously read Inquest. They were the absolute best. I still have a copy of my very first issue, has a Serra Angel fighting a Hurloon Minotaur on the cover haha So cheesy

How would mindslaver help? You control their turn not them during your turn when you would have to cast it.

Its not useless for five turns, since it counts each creature attacking. Really the card reads as "R, enchantment: your opponents become reluctant to attack you for a bit"
So I predict it will have some usefulness in limited slowing down your opponents early game.

Question to anyone familiar with old Magic rules, specifically, pre-6th Edition: Could you ever cast instants in the middle of declaring blockers? There's a guy at my LGS (a habitual liar, mind you, claims he was a level 5 judge many years ago) who INSISTS that you could use use Flash to bring in a creature just long enough to block with it in the middle of declaring blockers.

Not in the middle of declaring blockers, but you can do it when the "declare blockers" phase of the turn starts.
