I have a question. If my opponent plays an instant that requires him to pay 2 life, that's a seperate activation cost aside from its mana cost. So then if I play phyrexian revoker and name that instant it shouldnt be able to be used until my revoker leaves play?

No. The 2 life is not an activation. It is an additional cost required to put the card on the stack. Phyrexian revoker can stop abilities like cycling or forecast from being played however.

No, because you used the mana/life to put it in the stack. Think about it this way: if you tap a land for anything, sacrifice creatures or pay life for anything, you are now dealing with a created "effect", and you cannot retaliate against that by trying to destroy the land or kill the "sacrificed" creature first. Those costs are already paid once the effect is in the stack.

Basic question, if a creature has Regenerate and an Enchantment attached and you choose to Regenerate do you get to keep the Enchantment or is it destroyed?

The enchantment remains in play attached. Equipment would also remain attached to a creature that regenerated.

Thanks for the help! Got my first set of cards today, via the toolkit. Only pulled 1 Mythic from the booster packs, Inferno Titan. Time to start building some decks!

Nm, he got banned for a tongue-in-cheek "go to hell". Smh.

Yup. But I'm back like lightning bolts. If you didn't get Skittles, send me your Paypal.

I picked up a box while I was banned. Epic.

- Foil Sword of War and Peace
- Regular Sword of War and Peace
- Batter skull
- foil Mental Misstep
- 2 regular Mental Missteps
- No goddamn Karns
- 2 spellskite

I also picked up a craiglist lot for 40 bucks. It had 4 Sol Rings, 2 JTMS, a playset of every vampire known to man and assorted rares, etc.

It was a productive time away...

So I finished my High Tide deck today after getting 4 Candelabra of Tawnos and 4 Force of Will...and I find out mental misstep wrecks the deck now. :(

It was amusing to see the deck make a comeback after all these years but I'm glad it's been shut out again, what an aggravating deck to play against. 90% of the people playing it seemed to have no clue how to play it well, so i'd sit through 15 minutes of them trying to combo off only to watch them fuck it up and scoop when they realize they won't be able to do a damn thing.

That happened to two of my friends at the GP last week. One was playing merfolk, their first game was 25 minutes long with high tide fucking it up at the end, and the other played zoo and just burned them out in response to a big draw spell.

What? You got all those cards for $40?!?!?!

Yeah. Some dude collected, went to college and forgot to pay his last months rent. Told his roomate to sell his stuff to cover. Roomie sells cards, called them "too nerdy for him to give a shit about" and sold them for cheap.

...I also picked up a blender for 10 bucks. Pretty sweet deal!

Reminds me of when I moved out of state and put my cards in my friend's care while I was away, only to have him sell them off to pay rent and get about 1/3 of what they were actually worth. Worst part is he played magic and knew the cards were worth more but he was dumb enough to sell them anyways. And he pocketed the entire amount. Now I did give him half ownership of the cards when I left, but that still means he owes me half of what he made...he burned about 60% of his friendship leeway with that one.

But enough bitching, anyone see the new Commander (barf, it will always be EDH and generals to me) thats a 1/1 for a black and green and gets a +1/+1 counter whenever it deals damage and his counters aren't removed if he dies? I wonder if we will see more cards with that ability.

Also, stifle+dreadnaught is my new favorite "what the fuck!?" play that I should have known about years ago. Especially if you drop a lotus petal as well and bust it out turn one.

I think I may be done with magic again. The people at the shop have been douches the last 2 weeks and it's not any fun anymore. There's no one else I can play that's close by so I'm thinking of stopping again unfortunately.

Made the top 4 in the draft I posted about earlier. Pulled a couple of Missteps, Glistening Oil and the blue Chancellor. Nothing too major.

I can't get the whole deck, but if you decide to break it up, I would gladly trade some PayPal funds for some cards.

Kind of excited about gameday next week, even though my good decks are all at home and the deck brought hasn't been touched since NPH released.

Anyone else loving the Commander reveals? This guy:

RR_1.jpg

Has convinced me to buy whichever deck he comes in. Originally, I was only buying Counterpunch, maybe Devour for Power... I'll probably end up buying all 5.

No, unfortunately :<

I still expect him to show up. I refuse to believe someone opened up the letter you sent it in, happened to be a Magic player, and took it for himself/herself.

I posted my thoughts on the new Commander stuff over at Salv and the Commander forums, but I guess I might as well post them here too.

I'm kinda underwhelmed. Re:Tariel- If I want to reanimate dudes, why wouldn't I just play Geth, Lord of the Vault, Chainer, Dementia Master, or Teneb, the Harvester and get to pick the dude? (The fact that all of those guys are cheaper and can use their abilities the turn they come down- with the exception of Teneb, who is, at least, in better colors for reanimation shenanigans- is also relevant.) Hope the other WBR general is more interesting.

The Mimeoplasm is certainly build around but isn't he basically Quicksilver Gargantuan? Hardly a new design and I don't recall too many players being excited by the Gargantuan.

Animar is definitely the coolest of the new lot (but, given my thoughts on the other two, that's not exactly much of an accomplishment) and he definitely has a "build around" factor. Will be interesting to see how to optimize a build around him NOT using colorless creatures. Also, what kind of creature based wrath protection can we get in RUG? Anyways, kudos on that one; I'm at least willing to give building a deck with him a try.

The non-general cards have also been pretty lackluster.

Collective Voyage

Both this and the token join forces card are super dangerous and I can't even see them getting a slot in my decks, Collective Voyage especially. It screams "Go ahead and win" to the guy next in line. Nobody played New Frontiers before and I can't see them playing this now. They aren't political; they're just symmetrical, which is pretty bad for the player actually choosing to run them and cast them. Hopefully, the blue one is a 1 mana Broken Ambitions that everyone can pitch in to help with. That would be a good use of this design space as it actually leverages multiple player interest towards a common cause rather than presenting another simply group hug card.

Acorn Catapault

I can't see myself ever running this in any circumstance. It's subpar at pinging, token generation, and giving other players tokens. (There are some corner case generals that could use it, though- Toshiro and Glissa 2.0 have been mentioned to me.)

Trench Gorger is a more interesting Selective Memory and, for that, I might consider it in the future. Although, I've never run Selective Memory so I dunno why I'd start running it now. Works well with Animar, at least.

So, yeah, pretty disappointed with these on the whole and that's not even taking into account the competitiveness of my metagame. I don't expect many of these cards to be playable in a combo off centric environment where politics are useless (people only interact to disrupt an imminent combo off or protect their own- you simply don't have the time or resources to do so otherwise in these incredibly cutthroat games) but I do expect cards that I would want to run/build around in a more casual deck and these just don't earn their spots.

I've already broken Acorn Catapult. Its a really simple combo, just Mycosynth Lattice + Doubling Season + Dross Scorpion + Ashnods Altar + Essence Warden + Acorn Catapult = Infinite mana, life, and squirrels.

Some neat sales going on at target!

My boyfriend and I went in the other day to pick up the Fire and Lightning decks (on clearance for $17.50; really nice for the contents!) for some friends. While we were there, we noticed some $10 plastic boxes that get you two decks and a booster. Seemed like an alright deal.

Well, we went back today as they were opening up a new case of cards.... filled with the two deck packs. We got the following:

Me:
Worldwake pack + New phyrexia pack
G/R Planechase deck
Phyrexia vs The Coalition: The Coalition
M11 deck (black/white)
Zendikar deck (landfall)

Boyfriend:
Rise of Eldrazi Pack
Elspeth Vs Tezzeret minus planeswalkers

we are very very happy xD Go buy these while they still have 'em!

^ I wish the Wal-Marts around here had these kinds of sales. Products are incredibly overpriced, and I don't think anyone really buys them until they're out of print and hobby shops are selling them for stupid prices. The closest thing to it I saw was 40% off retail Shards block foil packs, and they were still $8 each. I was at a Meijer in Michigan and they were having a 25% off all card games sale, so it seems that the big box stores have promotions every now and then that are worthwhile in the good ol' US of A.

A few questions. First, in EDH, can an opponent take control of your general? Second, if I want to use Green Sun's Zenith to cast a Khalni Hydra with 4 green creatures in play, am I paying 8G or 4G?

I'm not sure about the EDH question, though I'd assume they could. But for the GSZ, you will need to pay 8G. The Hydra's cost if reduced only if played from your hand.

Tried to find an answer to this, but apparently I suck at Google. If you kill a token is it as though it never existed? For example opponent has some artifact 1/1 tokens on the field and I kill them. Do those now count as artifacts in a graveyard or are they just nothing?

They evaporate. I can't explain it technically, but they don't go to the graveyard, they literally cease to exist.

Edit: Note that cards that trigger when a creature goes to the graveyard will still trigger, even though the token is removed from the game entirely.

They actually go to the graveyard, then cease to exist, that's why they work with cards that trigger when a creature goes to the graveyard (technically, they cesase to exist when state-based actions are checked).

Yup. Having a sac outlet on hand like High Market is traditionally a good idea for most EDH decks partially because of this.

Nasty! So you or your opponent could have 2 commanders in the command zone, trolling away until an answer can be found?

In other news... Inferno Titan has been confirmed for M12, which means we're probably getting the other four. It's disappointing to see another season of titans dominating the 6-spot, but at least they'll be cheaper this time around. Sucks that the praetors probably won't see constructed play now. Here's the pic of Inferno from the starter pack instructions pamphlet:

Goddammit, my LGS closed. I'm not exactly sure, but something about not paying license fees for a while. They're looking for donations now, but it's not good. We regulars have already started talking about where to play amongst our houses in that area, but this just sucks. Here's hoping the unlikely happens and Arkham reopens.

Thanks! :)

It's the repackaged booster blister type packs (third party?) They have the back of the cards facing out and the only ones I have seen have a RoE booster in the back. The decks are side by side and take two pegs.

Hope that helps, sorry if it is confusing.

Yeah, that's what I meant by "until an answer can be found". Pretty devious stuff!

I am so excited for next weekend. I'm kind of glad that M12 hasn't proven to be anything special so far. Lets me save money for Innistrad.

So my friend just bought 1,500 Magic cards off ebay and we just got them today. I'm pretty new to Magic and wanting to start a deck, but I don't know which color to go with. I know it sort of depends of the cards themselves to determine how good a deck will be. Again I'm new to this so I don't know if what I'm asking makes sense, but does each color have specific benefits and drawbacks? For example, does green have really big creatures, but lack in spells? If each color does have pros and cons, could someone please explain what they are? Thanks in advance.

White is for weenies who play "just to have fun."
Blue is for power-starved geeks who want to pretend to have a modicum of control over their lives.
Green is for people who really want to smash stuff all the time, or conversely, like to play with elves and fairies.
Red is for those who wet the bed. FIREFIREFIREFIRE
Black is for emo/goth/Geiger-geeks.

...hope that helps!

Speaking of which, I have roughly 2000 magic cards I don't want anymore. Anyone wanna take them off my hands?

(and any other CCG cards I have lying around?)

I can go through and list the rares or w/e but, I'm not going to individually go through and see the value of all that other shit.

I'm thinking like $100 obo? I'm haggleable. as for my others, I've got about uh, like a 4" stack of WoW cards, a 7"~ stack of yugioh, and uhm maybe 10-12" stack of Star Wars cards, idk how much someone would pay for those but I need some cash and I don't want any of these anymore (especially since if I play MTG it's on the PC now)

How old are the cards? (the magic ones)

I got my collection back from my parents house (its where I kept it when I moved). I am looking to sell them. I have about 500 rares and over 10k cards. What is the best way to sell these in Canada without using Ebay? (I don't use paypal since getting hacked a year ago). I have some old stuff (Underground Sea, Nevinhral's Disk(sp?), Serendib Efreet, etc.) How can I value what I have?

If you don't want to use eBay, the Salvation boards might be alright. You can also go to magic.info (?) and it shows the High low and average prices of cards as you look them up.

Don't know any other good ways to get rid of cards.

Uhm, im counting my cards right now to make sure (im pretty sure its something like 2040 cards though) I have 2000 and I'm on my white cards so lemme go through...

judgement, there's that M one I forget the name of, the urza gears one, the dragon one in the shape of a circle, the mask one, odyssey, the one with the crystals, 7, the sword, what looks like a bunch of older ones with no marks (i have a lot of these), a bridge, two spears behind a shield, an axe, 8, 6, a broken roman pillar thing, a dragon head, a whirlpool, an insect head, a weird shaped V, a couple once with a snowflake, one kinda has what looks like a keep wall design? (Festival of Trokin), another looks like it has a picture of a tent from the top down?, a few have a star, a cloud with a lightning bolt, a crying mask, a hammer, a palm tree, a gate, a banner

I think im missing a few other sets here but it's a varied collection lol. I don't remember most of the names of these anymore.

The older cards say 1995 and others say 1997 at the bottom (the ones with no marking)?

They're all in what I'd say good or very good condition. They range from no visible wear, to Very minor edge wear. one or two have extremely minor damage to the black band part of the back of the card. Other than that I tried to take very good care of them.
