I'm liking that Essense, will get for my Ghave deck. Have that out, pay 5 to get rid of the counters on Ghave, then have an army of 36 P/T? Sure, why not. :D

I'm liking the power rollback in the cards revealed so far. The mythics aren't stupidly overpowered, but they are still game-changers/winners if they resolve. Some may say this set is all flavour, but I personally welcome it.

I agree. Consistent turn 4 and 5 kills is annoying. I'm not saying games should be glacially paced, but the last few sets have been annoying as hell. Personally my fix was to return "annoying" cards like LD and Counterspell back, but I guess WoTC has a better working plan, which I welcome.

Resource denial isn't "fun" but its a hell of a lot more fair than turn 3 or 4 Titans. Jeez.

And yes, I'm fully aware this is not a popular opinion. So, go ahead and tell me as such ;P

Zendikar limited was fun the first three or four times I drafted. After that though, it started feeling nerve wracking and just not fun. Plus Innistrad looks to have lots of cards to put in crazy casual and EDH decks.

Oh totally. I imagine Innistrad limited will be the bombiest, swingingest, "oh man" limited yet. It'll be very much like triple worldwake except you know its not "play the Eldrazi and win". A lot of the "power" cards are a bit overcosted, which I'm totally fine with in limited. I wonder if there's yet another mill sub theme going on. I love mill as a side strategy in draft, and I'm really, really hoping that it will make it.

Constructed on the other hand, we'll just have to see. I'm still kind meh and feh on what we've seen so far. I mean block will be fine, but with scars and m12? Again, we'll have to see.

Undead Alchemist sure would be fun in a mill deck.

Would multiple of that being in play create multiple zombies per creature put in the graveyard or would it not activate because you can only exile the card once?

Ah, I just realized Undead Alchemist would be perfectly fine as a hate card if your opponent plays some graveyard filling stuffs with creatures. I don't see decks solely being built around it to be any worthwhile though. It's weak towards mass removal for one.

Where's the best place to buy singles? Played some casuals last night and realized how lack of dual lands can really set you behind.

Can someone give me a quick rundown on all the common formats out there? I always hear Type 2, Standard, and so on and the only one clear to me is Limited.

Type 2 = Standard = Last Magic core set (currently: M11 + M12, after Innistrad hits: M12), plus the last two blocks. (Currently: Zendikar block and Scars of Mirrodin block. After Innistrad hits the stores: Innistrad block + Scars Block)

That is for sure. Other than that, I cant give you a correct specification of other formats beside that I know that Modern is somehow friendlier to our wallet due to not going as back as Legacy does.

I personally like trollandtoad.com.
That's where I used to go but someone recommended this site
TCGplayer

Saved quite a bit of money buying singles through various stores there (I typically only buy from the stores that give free shipping on singles orders of $50 or more). 99 times out of 100 you'll find what you're looking for there cheaper than TnT. Wish I would've known about it sooner since TnT was my go-to for years as well.

It's okay in standard. Not really sure if it's all that much better than Chain Reaction which basically saw zero constructed play. It's better because it can do 13 damage to a creature. I kinda dig it.

It's at least guaranteed to be played in modern. Will replace Dragonstorm in every Infect.dec, as it's actually a spell you actually have the option of casting from time to time.

Alright so real quick on the deck design tip using Blasphemous Act:

Artifacts:
4 Genesis Chamber

Creatures:
4 Mogg Maniac
2 Stuffy Doll
4 Grim Lavamancer

Spells:
4 Blasphemous Act
4 Dragon Fodder
4 Goblin Assault
2 Mogg Infestation
2 Rise of the Hobgoblins
4 Lightning Bolt (or Shock, whatever)
2 Red Elemental Blast
4 Seething Song

Lands
20 Mountain

60 Cards

Cards I want to work in somehow but haven't really thought about it
Fire Servant
Shrine of Burning Rage

I'm curious as to how you guys would alternate/change this design.

Obviously the strategy is get as many creatures out as fast as possible with a Maniac or Doll or two on the table and cast Blasphemous Act. The redirection will deal 13 damage per Maniac or Doll.

Genesis Chamber will increase the amount of creatures on the field despite you putting tokens out since your opponent will be getting tokens for his or her creatures.

Red sweeper is pretty useless in constructed, where DoJ will be cheaper most of the time. (Unless you're just as commited to the board as your opponent- in which case, I would wonder why you would even cast a board sweep in the first place.) In multiplayer edh, though? Should be fantastic, with the potential to easily set up a situation where you can cast it as a Plague Wind for R.

What the hey? Tinypic?

HOLY SHIT.

H o l y . S h i t .

Buy your Levelers guys. If Dread Return wasn't banned in Modern... HOLY SHIT. Turn 1 kill. Seriously.

This is a deck waiting to happen. There is a Modern deck that can use this. I will brew the motherlove out of it.

This is one of the most brilliant win conditions I've ever seen. It requires no interaction with the opponent. You don't have to rely on his library to mill, makes your own milling even better. There will be a way to break this card so bad.

Right now I can't figure out an easy peasy way. But its there. What cheap modern reanimation spells are available now that Dread Return is nixed?

Blue is getting all the fun. As someone else pointed out for Phantasm.

1. 2. 3.

You can also combine Nomads en Kor with Daru Spiritualist and a sac land (like Diamond Valley, Miren the Moaning Well, or Starlit Sanctum) to gain infinite life. Gotta love the Breakfast combo, this is an actual Legacy deck. Combine it with Test of Endurance to make for a quicker kill too.

Ah, that's interesting. Lab maniac could be as simple as an alt win condition for that deck. Gain infinite life and wait till you deck yourself doesn't exactly sound difficult.. but you do only have 4 copies of the lab maniac. Could be the most horrible deck to play against too, heh.

You play at shops I'm guessing? The only people I play with are my closest friends. We all got into Magic at the same time.

I'm glad I'm not seeing much of it here, but I'm getting tired of people saying Innistrad looks terrible. I'm much more excited for this than I was for Scars of Mirrodin. It might be because I exclusively play EDH, but I've seen so many cards I'd like to play in my decks.

Yeah I only play with my friends at my place, but we'll do drafts at FNM here and there. Gotta admit most of the FNM players have been pretty helpful so I don't have much complaints.

Man, if there is one area Innistrad is really falling down for me though, its with names. So many of the flip cards in particular are "adjective noun", and it feels clumsy.

I went to a friend's place a few weeks ago, and was told to make an EDH deck to play with. Turns out the one I made, which had 6-ish combos in it, was thoroughly illegal, with more than half of the combos being banned (LED-Spellbomb-Auriok, Painter-Grindstone, etc). I've been looking around at the EDH precons and think I'm going to buy "Devour For Power" to give myself a good starting line since I want to play BUG (and dont have a particular general in mind). I've been scoping the EDH forum on MTGSalvation, but does anyone have recommendations?

Anyone playing in the mini-masters tournament this weekend?

Is that those free events going on tomorrow? I was going to ask them what was up tonight at FNM, but I might be going to mine.

Yes and I don't play Magic lol. Going to see if I like the people before investing in any cards, looking forward to it.

Yea you bring 5 of each basic land and you get a booster. Make a 30 card deck from that and play in an elimination tournament. Winners get packs to add to the deck until one winner is left.

If you don't play Magic, why go? You need to bring basic land to play.
