Wait wait wait. Targets are chosen at the time of triggering. It never resolves because it doesn't get a legal trigger, regardless of which order they're placed on the stack.

Damn your edit! I was just about to say that! :lol Myr will have to target the opposing player unless there's another creature on the battlefield.

Here's a fun active/non-active player discussion: both players have a Huntmaster of Fells. Player A passes turn and does nothing; player B does nothing either and it moves to his upkeep. Who gets to keep their Ravager? Player A? B? Both? Neither?

I think... Player A?

It's Player B's turn so he's AP
Hunt B transform goes onto the stack
Hunt A transform goes onto the stack
Hunt A transforms into Ravager A
Ravager A effect goes onto the stack, targeting Hunt B
Ravager A effect resolves, killing Hunt B

Player B's upkeep:

Huntmaster B's ability goes on the stack
Huntmaster A's ability goes on the stack
Huntmaster A's ability resolves, putting a damage trigger on the stack
Huntmaster B's transform ability triggers - if huntmaster A targeted it with the damage trigger, it's dead, and the ability fizzles and nothing else happens.

I know because I was in this situation yesterday xD

Yep!

I love the way this resolves, because it shows how well thought out that card is. Even though player B is the active player when the transformation abilities trigger, he has to reactively respond to player A's choice to do nothing if he wants to save his creature. It's quite cleverly done, essentially "punishing" the active player for choices made while he was the non-active player. R&D did a really good job putting that card together.

I saw this in the Pro Tour Dark Ascension stream a couple of weeks ago, and I thought it made a really good example for APNAP discussions. They were even speculating that Kibler (one of the finalists) was actually boarding Huntmasters in and out based on whether or not he was on the play (although he never specifically stated whether or not that's why he was doing it).

We could start a Pauper group, I just started playing MTGO, got a cheap Goblin deck for Pauper (cost around 25 tickets/$) and it feels like a competitive format, played a really good game against a Delver deck.
I want to end up playing Standard, but didn't feel like dropping 150 tickets on one go to be the least competitive. Starting with Pauper you can win boosters playing tourneys/single matches to help sustain the addiction. Speculating on card prices is also a good way to make some extra tickets.

Playing Constructed matches to pay for your Drafts, that pay for whatever else you want. Bots selling/buying cards, tourneys, etc available 24/7. Yes, I'm glad I found MTGO.
Doesn't replace playing with friends, and sadly it doesn't have Cube, but MTGO has a really good ecosystem.

I'm done to play whatever. I'm kinda going through a MTG resurge thanks to MTGO and finally sorting out my cards. It was desperately needed. I found hundreds of dollars of stuff I had forgotten about and was just sitting on like a dumbass.

I would love to play more local games, but honestly, being married gets in the way of that a bit.

True, I love being able to play in my underwear at 2am if I want. While eating spaghetti. (Although the fiancee would probably leave me haha).

Went to a standard tournament at some shop I've never been to before, went 7-1 and took first, netting me a nice playmat with "champion" written on it. Played mono green aggro and stomped all the usual suspects, red burn, ramp, wolf run, delver, and so on. Blue black control was my only loss, which I redeemed with a 2-1 win against the same guy in the top 8. Outside of u/b control it was ridiculous, I slaughtered every major deck I played against, mono green is nasty.

Damn dude. After reading all of your crazy life stories over the years on GAF, I can hardly believe you're a badass Magic player on top of all the other shit. :lol

haha along with video games, it's my remaining link to the world of nerd. Been playing on and off since 1996. I figure fuck it, girls seem to find it endearing that I play magic despite not looking or acting like the type, might as well roll with it.

Scanning my facebook page, a ton of my friends made Day 2 at Grand Prix Baltimore. Nice to see them doing well, they totally deserve it.

Post deck!

You remind me of a friend who looks and acts like a jock but is quite nerdy who plays fighting games and watches sappy anime hardcore. (not saying you do those thing!)

He does. He loves anime and Kamye West love ballads in equal measure.

haha I like to think of myself that way but I've become less of a jock and more of a nerd as time goes on. No neck beard or poor hygiene though lol. Still don't look like the majority of people I see at tournaments but every year I see more and more non typical players. It's really interesting to see the wide range of people, especially at the big gran prix trials.

Deck:

4x Dungrove elder
4x llanowar elves
4x Birds of paradise
2x Predator ooze
4x Young wolf
4x Strangleroot geist
4x Phryexian metamorph
1x Bellowing Tanglewurm
1x Thrun
3x Sword of war and peace
1x Sword of feast and famine
1x Sword of body and mind
3x Garruk relentless
3x Green sun zenith

21 forests

sideboard
2x Predator ooze
4x crushing vines
3x naturalize
4x beast within
1x Creeping renaissance
1x sword of feast and famine

A good game (and this happened very consistently) went turn one elf or bird, turn two dunrove, turn three sword, turn four equip and make your opponent play defense the rest of the match just to stay alive.

I'm going to take out the predator oozes. They were awesome in playtesting but only came in handy in one game (a non official rematch that my semifinal opponent asked for after I crushed him) and even then I was well on my way to victory anyways.
Also will move the bellowing tanglewurm to the sideboard, I can see his potential but he only won a single match for me and the rest of time was a waste of space that I boarded out.
Also on the fence about thrun. He just never made an appearance at a time to be useful. He was always just "back up" to make sure I had blockers while I was already on my way to winning. I think i'll try to figure out two cards to stick in there which give me either help against flyers or help late game. Maybe a primeval titan and a vorapede. Maybe board a few ratchet bombs too to help with tokens, although the one token deck I faced I beat before they could get anything more than a few spirits out.

Almost everything else in the deck had their time in the spotlight. The geists won me several games thanks to haste. And opponent would leave just enough blockers to survive so on my turn I'd green sun zenith a geist out or use garruks ability to search for one and swing with more than the opponent was expecting. Won this way several times.
The phreyxian metamorphs were also key, letting me copy their bombs (at one point I copied a primeval titan and fed my dungrove elder more forests to become a monster.) Also let me double up on swords if I knew the opponent was probably going to try and destroy one.
Garruk was incredible, so much utility. Whether zapping an opponent's huntmaster, pooping out 1/1 deathtouchers to hold off fatties, or searching out key creatures.
The young wolves I'm a bit on the fence about. Great one drop card, but I want to be dropping an elf or bird first turn and he usually only made an appearance turn 3 when I dropped a sword and a wolf. Still, he was great against creature destruction, making my opponents slagstorms or wogs far less effective, and was a great chump blocker.

lol motherfucker ill keeeel you.

It totally slipped my mind that this weekend was GP Baltimore. I know a whole bunch of my friends from NYC made the trip there. Checking the standings only one of them made day two but he's climbing the ranks. I wish him luck. Does anyone remember the cutoff point for a PT invite from a GP finish?

You know it's true siddx.

Last night I saw two guys playing with some Power 9s including several Black Lotus, and yet they were proxying things like counterspells. What the hell did I witness?

you sure they were power? they make some pretty impressive proxies that look pretty similar. If they were, I can only assume they spent their life savings on power and can't afford any other cards lol
The shop owner where I played owned a bunch of power nine, including two black lotus (a revised and a beta). Had some of it on display and for sale. Had to restrain myself from blowing my savings. Really nice guy too, it's a shame his shop isn't closer.

I can't really be sure, but the one guy was showing Time Walk off. I have a really crusty old ass shop that has a bunch of power 9s and dual lands. The guy refuses to use the internet and instead uses the last printed price guide he could find. The internet is trying to rip him off, you see.

Well hopefully he keeps that attitude because as prices rise his dumb ass will stay at the same price. Buying cards from shops is foolish anyways (although I break down and do so once in a while). I was going to pick up two show and tells for 40 each yesterday until I realized I could get them for 25 each online.

Yeah, on the other hand he still thought Shiva Dragons were valuable. So, there's that.

I do this all the time. I don't have power or huge Type 1 cards (besides Mana Drains), but even with all my expensive Type 1/1.5 cards I've still had to proxy even the most basic things at times. For example, I was using a RUG Delver deck a few weeks ago. Forces, loads of duals and fetches, goyfs, expensive deck, but proxied $1 Delvers since I didn't have any with me.

For PTDA, it was top 16 from each GP. For the remaining 2012 Pro Tours, it is Top 4 from each GP. However, there are a ton more GP's this year than before. Hell, just this weekend is both Baltimore and Madrid.

I plan on retiring on what I'll make selling off my Serra Angels.

I have a stack of Mishra's Factory's that are going toward my kid's college fund.

The more you know. Seems odd that you can afford 1200 dollar cards, but a 50 cent uncommon is just out of reach. Of course, that may be because "fuck it, who cares"

Just the first time I've seen it, is all.

Man, I'm kinda shocked at how broken the Mirrorworks/Disciple of the Vault/Myr Retriever/Krank-Clan Ironworks combo is. Infinite damage!

(BRB, making stupidly broken deck)

I love my elf deck online. Such great synergy. Only think that's been able to consistently work against it has been mill. I hate mill. So. Much.

2 Hurricane
4 Overrun
4 Dense Foliage

3 Ezuri, Renegade Leader
2 Elvish Archdruid
4 Eladamri, Lord of Leaves
4 Krakilin
4 Joraga Warcaller
4 Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
4 Greenweaver Druid
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Drove of Elves
4 Heedless One

23 Forest

I could see Curse of Exhaustion being really useful in a green/white spirit deck.

I'm thinking about adding it to my work in progress white control deck with peacekeepers, leylines, runed halos, wogs, and a bunch of other disruption cards.

I thought Jackie was a dude till I saw her wedding ring. Hope she wins this thing.

I was rooting for her too, and she almost won the game she mulliganed to four (I think?). Damn that Consecrated Sphinx!
btw I didn't know there were that many girls playing on Magic the Gathering tournaments, I remember last week's Modern tournament also had a girl on the top8 playing Affinity.

Did some online drafting with a friend on his account this weekend.

Our first draft went very poorly with a deck I can't remember. We thought it was pretty good and then we got stomped.

My friend, in his drunken wisdom, decided then that he was going to take every Loyal Cathar and Burden of Guilt he could. We splashed red for the 5/5 werewolf that destroys artifacts and lost one game total on our way to a draft victory.

Then, we drafted Cathar/Burden again, but splashed black this time. Made it all the way to the final round but lost out to another deck I can't remember. It was just better.

Still, didn't expect the Cathar to carry us. I mean, we had 5 or 6 in each deck. It's just a great card.

Revised Black Lotus doesn't exist lol I guess you mean Unlimited?

I want one from any set at this point, though.

Oh God, I remember when Shivan Dragon was like $25 card. Those were the days...

Say I have a Curse of Death's Hold (gives -1/-1 to enchanted player's creatures) enchanted onto me. I have a Celestial Purge in my graveyard. Can I cast Snapcaster Mage, flashback Celestial Purge to exile Curse of Death's Hold, and keep my Snapcaster alive?

I realized I will never truly understand how stacks work. XD

Since Snapcaster has to actually enter the battlefield to trigger its ability it instantly goes to 0 toughness due to the Curse and gets put in the graveyard as a state based action before any stack stuff can happen.

His triggered ability does still happen though.

The Snapcaster will die in the process, since when it comes into play, the -1/-1 is still active, so it comes in, its trigger targeting purge goes on the stack, it then dies. That's a common scenario, actually.

snapcaster mage + black sun's zenith.
I exiled it or shuffle it back?
When you flashback a spell, it's always exiled, even if it would go elsewhere as part of resolution. (The Zeniths and Wishes are the cards mainly affected by this, as well as when Remand is cast on a flashback'd spell.)
