Eventually, though, they're going to run out of cards for you to discard.

What happens then?

Yup, once they run out of cards your deck is useless. Thats why you use tombstalker's delve ability to get a tombstalker out nice and early thanks to all the discard you cast the first few turns.
Or something of the sort.

Is there any reason to have more than two of each sword if I only play standard? I'm thinking about dumping so I just have two of each while the price is high since they rotate out later this year.

I started MtG with a mono black discard during the Ice Age Black Summer...and then slowly moved on to other archetypes.

Mono-black discard has a few issues. Absolutely no way to deal with enchantments, very little cards to deal with artifacts. Of course, you could use stuff like Nev's Disk, Ratchet Bomb, etc. Which brings us to the other issue....Leyline of Sanctity and similar effects.

And if you're playing multi-player, that discard normally only targets 1 player.

I made a multiplayer version of discard using these cards: -

Rotting Rats
Liliana's Specter
Syphon Mind
Megrim
Liliana's Caress
Wheel of Torture
Urza's Guilt

Pretty cheap to build....but it draws a lot of heat. I use innocent blood and black sun to wipe.

I believe the Legacy competitive version of pure discard no longer exists. Discard is used mainly as a disruption tool for decks with black in it. However, the closest in discard archetype would be the Pox deck. It is somewhat competitive, so you can check that out as well.

nezumi shortfang flips.

you have a point though, perhaps something like Grimoire of the Dead would help to spend dead cards in hand and take advantage of the opponents now full graveyard.

possibly some Surgical Extractions if you're familiar with what your up against. would keep someone from topdecking a tinker into GG. alternatively, use discard to accelerate into some other win condition. my discard deck is just fancy dressing for a chains of Mephistopheles/anvil of bogardan lock.

So I'm thinking of designing a 5-color Sliver/Scarecrow deck with some enchantresses revolving around this card for fun:

I've got a ton of mana fixers going and creatures that count as all colors. What are the main issues I should be looking out for?

Is a mana spread like this reasonable:

16 forest
2 plains
2 islands
2 swamps
2 mountains
3 evolving wilds
3 terramorphic expanse

One of the combos I'm thinking of is enchantresses to draw cards + elfhame sanctuary.

Oh man, one of my favorite wins ever was with Coalition Victory. Time Spiral was still in Standard, so me and 2 friends decided on a 3-way pack war (one pack each, don't look at the cards, shuffle in 2 of each basic, lower starting life total). My pack is junk, and they are fighting each other. I just keep laying creatures down knowing that I couldn't mount the offensive to win. One friend finished the other off, and I was dead on his next turn as I drew my last card: Coalition Victory. The look on his face was priceless as I stole the sure win from him.

It was only printed in one set, and that set had a really small print run compared to normal expansions.

I guess, but it's strictly worse than Demonic in every possible way.

Same thing with Dark Tutelage. I don't understand why that has absolutely no value, while Dark Confidant is raking in the big bucks.

Yup, it looks like we're going to get a U/W angel as well then.
I do like the card quite a bit. I think its a better R/W angel then Razia. Also it actually seems reasonably costed: I would not have blinked if they had printed that thing at CMC 5 these days

I actually think it's funny that everyone thought Avacyn would be black white, and now it looks like we're going to get an angel of every combo with white BUT black.

Now I'm going to have to build ANOTHER EDH deck. "sigh..."

Yeah, Burn/beatdown decks just got a nice boost.

Imagine her and one turn later topdecking Thunderous Wrath in standard. Instant half their life.

But in any case, more cards for Kaalia whoo.

I'll be going back to some Naya love for this set, that's for damn sure. Druid's Repository fun times, Gisela, the new gigantic Beast? Gonna be a fun casual deck, oh man.

About the Gisela card:
Basically, while it's on the field, your opponent takes double damage, but you take only half damage?

Saw this combo on the MTG site.

That's just mean, I like it.

Another card revealed today:

Pretty cool effect.

Curiosity on a stick. Good for limited, not sure about constructed.

Yes, but at the 3 slot would you want to play this or Geist of Saint Taft/Mirran Crusader, both of which are the staples in WU human decks?

Or the new Silver Blade Paladin?

Champion of the Parish -> Gather the Townsfolk -> Sivlerblade Paladin is a much stronger opening than Parish -> Gather the Townsfolk -> Tandem Lookout.

Ah, okay.

Nevermind I see you already have The Rack.

Descendants path:

At the beginning of your upkeep, reveal the top card of your library, if it's a creature card that shares a creature type with a creature you control, you can cast this card without paying its mana cost. Otherwise, put it at the bottom of your library

Amazing art.

Oh my lord.

(What is Obama doing in Innistrad?)

Some cards I found on MTGO that might fit into the discard deck:
Grul Draz Spectre
Quest for the Nihil Stone

Also wouldn't it make sense to include some targeted reanimation?

Cool, thanks for clearing it up.
BTW is there a Magic the Gathering game for Android or iPhone?

Saw this combo on the MTG site.

Hang on wouldn't the first set-up work best if one or both had First or Double strike?
EDIT: ...and does Soulbound require only 1 monster's mana cost for summoing or the combination of both?

VEGETA. WHAT DOES THE SCOUTER SAY ABOUT AVR'S POWER LEVEL?

IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND!

Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 (which releases this summer) will have an iPad version.

The combo hinges on the fact that deathtouch doesnt require the damage to be combat damage (typically that's how creatures deal damage, but damage from creature abilities counts too). And soul binding requires you to cast both cards. The binding takes place as the second creature enters the battlefield.

So it's functionally a better Arc Runner. Great.

I can see that being a fun card in multiplayer for diplomacy shenanigans. "Okay, who's going to take one for the team here?"

Augh, as if my friend's commander deck wasn't annoying enough with that commander that let's you put an angel, demon, or dragon onto the battlefield attacking whenever the commander attacks. Gisela added will make us target him right away now lol.

I guess good thing I haven't spent money on magic cards lately so I can buy a lot of avacyn restored... Such a ridiculous set it seems...

This card is amazing! I hope they make more elf cards again soon.

Therese Nielsen is too awesome.

It's a 4 damage burn spell that becomes a creature if your opponent can't afford to pay the life, or if they have removal/blockers.

I think I compared it to Arc Runner earlier, but the card I was actually thinking of was Spark Elemental.

And yeah - that thing is ridiculous as a 1-drop. Red Deck Wins!

Which? Vexing devil?

Yes.

I'm sure it'll find a home in some decks but this isn't some massive power creep. This is a card that will see a lot of play in modern / legacy but I really don't think it's that hot for standard.

The problem with the card is it'll never reliably do what you want. Yes on turn 1 its more than likely going to be 4 to the dome unless your opponent deals with it with a Vapor Snag or whatever. But if you want a Lava Spike later on in the game, it's not going to be that. That's why I don't like this in burn. It's not even like Spark Elemental which was a crappy creature but at least had the benefit of haste to get damage in.

It's not really power creep. I don't think this would be considered as good as Goblin Guide in most decks honestly. Red decks right now want to hit Stormblood on turn 2. This card doesn't help at all in doing this. It's not a reliable 1 drop at all really, this card is best played on turn 3 / 4.

It could be crazy good in older formats where you can do all kinds of crazy shit with it and gain more reliability from the modular component of the card (because you can force either option to be a bad option easier). In standard though I think this card is being overhyped.

Either way I do like the design of the card itself. Most Browbeat cards are bad automatically, this one will be pushing it to the edge a bit.

It seems like Vexing Devil will cause some adjustments to how the current red decks operate. I really like it at first glance, but as always, playtesting will reveal whether or not the card is viable. I wouldn't completely count it out yet.

You gotta remember it triggers sac if they take 4 dmg. With it only costing 1 mana, it's going to leave a lot of mana up for combos. Sure, it could get Vapor Snag if it resolves, but you just did it on a 1cmc creature with huge dmg potential. I will not mind you using up Vapor Snag on it.

Some scenarios (not saying it's ideal but it could come down to this):
a)T3: Play Vexing Devil, they choose take 4 dmg, cast Stormblood Berserker
b)T4: Play Vexing Devil, they choose take 4 dmg, Brimstone Volley for 5 more
if they let it resolve, they got a 4/3 to deal with and you have mana open for burns and what not.

A 4/3 body is also huge to deal with at T2 if you let it resolve.
