Prerelease: You choose a guild. You get 5 boosters, a guild themed booster (which only has cards from that guilds colours), prerelease card (which you can use in the prerelease event for once), spindown counter, letter from your guild leader, achievement card & sticker.

Confirmed that there are 2 Planeswalkers in RTR, one of which is a new Jace. 2 Planeswalkers in Gatecrash, one of which is a new Gideon.

Get hyyyyyyyyyyyype!!!!

I'll be very curious to see how this works out in Limited since the set size is smaller and they're cramming more color combinations into a single set.

They added 25 cards to RTR (and probably Gatecrash as well.) Likely in the form of a 4th print sheet like Innistrad/DKA had. Should be interesting.

I wonder if we'll see more Hybrid this time around. Nowhere near Shadowmoor levels probably but more then OG Ravnica to help smooth out Limited.

While the prerelease seems awesome, I'm afraid that most stores just aren't going to get enough for everyone to have their first choice of guild. 5 different options is a ton- if a store only expects 40 people, do they just get 10-12 of each type?

Wanna send a big fuck you to the people who passed all the exalted shit to one dude at the draft tonight, giving him a deck of nothing but exalted creatures. No surprise he went 6-0 and didn't lose a single game. Although I should be happy that my uber shitty deck managed to get me fourth. I thought for sure I was going to scrub out.

Prerelease sounds really cool. I'll need to drag my more casual Magic friends to this one.

And ten new keywords? Damn son.
Who says they're all new? :) (Just because it's a new keyword to the guild, doesn't mean it's a brand new one to the game.)

I'm also on the MTGS forums under the same username. (in case you see posts there, it's me!)

It said no returning keywords. "Every guild getting a new keyword. No returning keywords."

I kind of want Madness to return, I missed Odyssey and it always looked like such a neat mechanic.

Gonna be great!

RTR is definitely going to be my first pre release. Looks fantastic!
I hope the upcoming duel deck has some good preview cards from the set!

In other news, got a first version of a red white human deck.

4x Champion of the Parish (1drop)
4x Doomed Traveller (1 drop)
4x Kessig Malcontents (3 drop)
4x Silverblade Paladin (3 Drop)
4x Lightning Mauler (2 Drop)
3x Riders of Gavony (4 Drop)
3x Elite Inquisitor (2 Drop)
2x War Priest of Thrune (2 Drop)

4x Gather the Townsfolk (2 Drop)
4x Thatchers Revolt (3 Drop)

4x Cliftop retreat
4x Slayers Stronghold
10x Plains
6x Mountain

Side Board
3x Oblivion Ring
3x Zealous Conscripts

Thoughts? Should Oblivion Ring be in the main deck, and what should I flesh out the sideboard with?
I've chosen not to use Hero of Bladehold and Mirran Crusader given that they rotate out so soon, and cost a fair bit. I think Silverblade Paladin and Lightning Mauler make a good replacement.

What could I replace it with though? Increasing devotion is an option, but then it is a 5 drop card.

2x Oblivion Ring, 2x Fiend Hunter is a start.
I think the list here is quite comprehensive in terms of options. I like Stormblood Berserker and Thalia over War Priest and Kessig Malcontents.
You don't need 4 Slayer Strongholds either, rather 2 or 3. Don't need to replace them with land either, your curve is pretty low.

Holy shit, I just read through the original Ravnica storyline summaries on the MTGSalvation wiki. I didn't realize that at the end of the block basically every guild-leader is dead or worse.

Oh man, that prerelease sounds really really fun. I love these fun flavor events they are doing these days.

Anyway, threw together a Goblin deck yesterday right before FNM with no cards at my disposal. I literally bought everything on the spot, and borrowed a few cards from friends here and there.

4x Goblin Arsonist
4x Spikeshot Elder
4x Goblin Wardriver
4x Goblin Chieftain
4x Krenko, Mob Boss

4x Goblin Grenade
4x Searing Spear
4x Pillar of Flame
4x Krenko's Command
2x Burn at the Stake

22x Mountain

Went 2-2. Needs work, obviously. At its core, though, I think it's a really fun deck.

Wow, so I can't believe I'm actually all giddy and excited for some cardboard that won't even be in my hands for another 3 months. I'm legit excited over this. I am going to spend so much money on this set and it SCARES me.

NO FUCKING BOROS NO FUCKING SALE

Guess I'll have to roll with.. Azorius? W/U? or Selesnya. W/G. Fuck man, what the fuck?

Gatecrash will be very VERY symbolic for me. Crashing the fucking party with Boros SON! (Gideon greatly aligns with Boros' mentality).

In trying to watch that scglivd but someone needs to take the mountain Dew away from the Caleb douche. The spastic card flicking is ridiculous.

So having played with some of the cards, which ones do you find winners or even sleepers?

I think Krenko is a boss (eh? Eh?) while Chieftain is still in, and I think Void Stalker is a definite sleeper. Gonna be buying a playset of that while they're .75-$1.00.

Talrand is a sleeper, he can be fucking nuts. What's better than countering an opponents spell? Getting a 2/2 flyer as well. What's better than getting two flyers with Talrands invocation? Getting three instead for just four mana.

Super pumped about the faction-based prerelease. I loved it when they did this for Mirrodin Besieged and can't wait for it again. Especially with all the Vorthosian goodies. (Hello, Izzet)

Thanks for the advice, the link was very useful also.

4x Gather the Townsfolk (2 Drop)
3x Oblivion Ring (3 Drop)

4x Clift top Retreat
2x Slayers Stronghold
10x Plains
6x Mountain

Do I stick with 3 Fiend hunters or drop to two? Could the Elite Inquisitor be replaced with something superior?

Thalia or Loyal Cathar are more traditional options, but he's fine especially if you have a lot of Zombies in your meta.

Interesting. Could use Cathar in the deck, and Inquisitor in the sideboard or vice versa. Only thing that puts me off Thalia is that my O-ring and Gather the Townsfolk will cost a fair bit more.

Souldbond is one of those fantastic mechanics that hits the sweet spot of linearity and modularity. There are so many obvious choices and also so many incredibly creative choices.

Split a box with 2 friends, augh I got the shaft hard. The first two packs Buddy #1 pulls is a Jace and Nicol. Buddy #2 pulls a Garruk. They all proceed to pull awesome rares. I pulled crap like Touch of the Eternal. Seriously one of the worst rares I've ever seen.

What terrible luck. I will say M13 packaging is so slick, it made me want to buy one of each product lol. The intro pack actually a good deal. $15 for Yves (the flash one), intro cards, and 2 boosters is probably the best one to get.

If you split a box with a friend/friends, you should sort out the rares separately and sort out amongst yourselves who gets what, with everyone getting equal market value at the end. That way, someone who takes a big money mythic gives up that much in rares/lesser mythics and no one truly gets shafted.
