The only time I think she's a dead card to play is when your board state is already abysmal. If you're only a bit behind then she can at least swing things in your favor.

also the beta client for MTGO is taking fucking forever to d/l

It went super fast for me, I just get an error and it closes the program though. I really wish I knew why it hates my computer.

Edit: Ah, fuck. It's because the main client is on my slave drive. Anyone know how to install to another drive? It doesn't prompt you at all during installation. :/

I actually wonder if her and Tamiyo together would be a decent end game strategy. Pump Vraska up to get her ultimate off then tap down your opponent's blockers to swing through for the win with the Assassin tokens.
Using Tamiyo for that seems silly, when you could just use Artful Dodge if you're running blue.

Describing planeswalker ultimates as a legit win con is the worst strategy.
Terrible to build around. Excellent, however, as a way to force inevitability. (Sorin's in fact is suuuuper threatening/opressive - he is real awkward to play against once he gets going.)

Yeah that's why I meant. If your only way to win is an ultimate the deck is too durdley even for me.

I guess WOTC really hates counterspells....

LOVE Abrubt Decay. Such a sweet removal spell. Interesting that the "can't be countered" is worded differently on each card. Is there any reason for that?

Supreme Verdict increases my desire to play Azorius. And that art is awesome.

Is there a functional difference between "can't be countered by spells and abilities" and "can't be countered"?

Edit: Is the wording different on Abrupt Decay since it can still be countered by killing its target maybe?

That Selesnya one is so much less exciting than the other two.

My guess is that the wording has to do with abilities like:

A poor man's affinity, to be sure, but that's going to be a great 1 drop.

Oh, also:

YES

God damn, I need to know what the U/R one is RIGHT NOW

This is the weakest of the cycle so far, and as a card that will probably be a staple in Zombie decks, that's saying something. Love how far they are pushing the 1 mana uncommon slot this set.

I'd love to see a remand reprint.

It'd be funny if there were an "Exile Target Spell," card that got around all this "can't counter" stuff.

Uncounterable wrath trading a colorless for a blue mana symbol? UW control is going to reign supreme.

The golgari instant speed removal is fucking bonkers as hell too.

Just a quick note;

The "can't be countered" spells previewed today aren't control hate. In fact, they're both removal spells that are likely to be the backbone of new control strategies in standard.

They're tempo hate, pure and simple, which is something control players approve of wholeheartedly. When a blue deck can run 4 delver of secrets or swarm the board with spirit tokens, then proceed to leak every removal spell aimed at them, that is NOT FUN.

Having control spells that say "~ can't be countered" is, kind of ironically, the best possible thing that could've happened to control.

(This won't stop the morons on MTGS from ranting all day long about how uncounterability is ruining control and these two spells are proof that Wizards hates blue.)

$40 just seems absolutely outrageous.
It is.

Complete and total truth. (been having this convo already w/ friends on facebook) Delver/Snapcaster backed them into a corner.

I also want to point out that Supreme Verdict being spoiled makes Jace a significantly better card, as he is now far more likely to be able to survive after using his divination ability.

The sudden presence of good control spells after ~3 years of LOL AGGRO STANDARD (caw blade was the closest thing to control in that timespan) is due to the shocklands being some of the only good manafixing available; just by being around, they tend to hose control strategies by causing multicolored decks to start at ~16 life. Food for thought.

..... also, do I need to point out how silly Collective Blessing is? If there's another Birds reprint, which I'm guessing there will be as they're native to the plane, Selesnya will have access to -twelve- good mana dorks. Imagine that fucking card out on turn 3.

$40 for Vraska seems about par for even slightly usable walkers. It'll go down right quick.

All this can't be countered stuff can be seen as a double edged sword. On one hand it nerfs counterspells. On the other it means they could print some better counterspells. Better mean a force of will in the pipe. Maybe not the one itself, but some kinda 5 life instead of 1 life. Izzet if they wanted to be even crazier.

Hmm, that actually gives me an idea that seems so obvious that it may have already been done. A Blue-Red spell that says "Counter target instant or sorcery spell and put a copy of it onto the stack under your control. You may choose new targets for the copy."

Time and time again will show that PW value will drop really low with time. No way I'm trading for it at that value.

I am loving most of what I'm seeing in RtR thus far. The art is sweeping and vibrant also.
