Played in the mini master tourney today, lot of fun. Went 4-1 so ended up finishing with a total of 8 free boosters and a sweet Bolas crown. Really didn't seem to get any decent rares or mythics though but that's ok. Someone pulled a Thundermaw Hellkite in their first pack and still didn't manage to win with it, not sure about later on though. My first rare? Phalactory Lich lol no artifacts of course.

Did anyone go get free cards today? Anything good? Rub it in why don't ya?

I got jank, trading post, magmaquake, elvish archdruid, and something else. Another kid though got a lili of dark realms, vampire noctornus, some other mythic and then bought 2 packs of avacyn afterwards and got devastation tide and a freaking bonfire.

Was WanderingWind playing at the same store as you?

Haha, he doesn't play zombies so I don't think it's him... Unless WW just got back from Korea also?

The packs that kid opened were just absurd though. My string of shit ass pulls has been kept alive and well though.

a guy hit the jackpot at the shop i went to: battle of wits.

If you think that's bad, the one guy I played pulled a foil battle of wits and the lich from m13 and he had no artifacts to play the lich without it dying.

I'll be honest: I hate the zombie archetypes running around right now. But the idea of playing Golgari Zombies after rotation actually sounds appealing to me for some reason.

I'm trying to think of what Zombies are losing with the rotation and all I can come up with is Mortar Pod.

Sweet deal. Did you top 8 a few opens?
T8'd DC (And Richmond last year, but couldn't make Charlotte for budget this year.) and just T2'd a Super IQ, so I'll have enough points for Level 1, which gets me LA this year, allowing me to float my invite to 2013 (alongside my level 1 invite for next year.)

Bloodthrone Vampire blew me up in the finals. They don't need it.

That actually might work.

As long as you don't need to run too many spells that aren't creatures or path, it's an amazingly effective card. Zombies are easier to keep on the board than most other tribes, as well, which is something my Human Path deck struggles with during the early turns.

That's awesome, I didn't know you could float quite that many invites. If you go to the Invitational, hopefully you'll get the chance to return the favor to Reid Duke for the loss in Washington.

I'd rather just play easier players. (Two of my opponents killed themselves playing against me at the IQ, lol) :-P

It's not actually floating invites- its that I'm gonna hit 20 SCG points and have 1 extra invite for this year and next year.

At first glance the demon looks like a case of Vexing Devil-syndrome: looks amazing in paper, but not so much in practice. Giving your opponent choices over how your board presence is affected is rarely a good thing.

But I think this guy is different enough from Vexing Devil to possibly be just a good in practice as he seems.

With Vexing Devil the weakness was in its ability taking life away: which nobody ended up caring about. And even if they let him hit the field they'd just deal with him with removal. No big deal.

With this demon he's always on the field, for one ( can't be "canceled" by his own ability like the Devil ), and even if they choose to tap him down by sacking a dude he just gets bigger. I wouldn't be a fan of this card if the sacking didn't result in +1/+1 counters.

Now, unless you're playing tokens, this guy will help your other creatures clear their field and then swing in for a great deal of damage. Seems good. Just take him out in token matchups and he should be good.

Plus a sweet new 3/3 Centaur token. Mmmm, my inner green is tingling.

Ehh, I'm kind of glad that Delver and Naya Pod are getting their face beat in by zombies.

That BUG control deck that was on stream yesterday was very interesting.

The Demon is a skill testing card.

He looks amazing.

He's actually deceptively awful.

(I would snap play him in Limited, however.)

I remember seeing full X4 sets of uncommon and common for MTGO on ebay. Have they banned the sale of them now as I don't see anything there now? The classifieds in the client are overwhelming for a noob such as me.

The Izzet vs Golgari decks are both pretty fun to play. And having never played with or against Dredge cards before I must say, Dredge is so weird.

Legacy Dredge is so fun to play.

LOL.

Especially with Griselbrand running around.

The demon will probably be good against more tempo style decks. But control won't care due to detain and Tamiyo, aggro will have creatures who can get huge quick(Lol troll) or multiple creatures or even creatures who can come back(gravecrawler).

So much fun. We've put aside the multi-hundred dollar decks and have been playing those for a while. She loves Izzet now.

It's war, I tells ya.

After resigning myself to spending 25-30 dollars to get Izzet v Golgari, I went to my LGS (which is primarily a sports memorabilia store) and the owner gave me three for fifty bucks.

Price hikes on anything but FTV product kind of piss me off. If my LGS can make a profit selling a massively printed duel deck for 17, why the hell does every other area think it's acceptable to charge 30+?

They are insanely fun to play! I kind of mashed all of the decks together, making the golgari one into G/B aggro loam and the Izzet one into a Dragonauts/Scepter deck.

They match up well and there was barely any filler for me to cut. Best duel decks ever.

^ This, all the way. Tapping out on turn 4 for a creature that will never swing for lethal isn't a good gameplan. First pick in limited, garbage elsewhere.

The card reminds me of abyssal persecutor in a way, although I believe it's much worse; neither are likely to kill your opponent directly, but you can at least aim a Dismember at Persecutor once your opponent is below 0.

Eeeeeh. I dunno. You're going to need some great token makers to really make use of his activated.

Selesnya Charm comes to mind.

The 1CMC izzet is interesting.

Oh wow, the ability on Nivmagus Elemental is really cool. Izzet loves to play around with spells and casting things, that's a wonderful way to change it up.

I wonder what the Elemental does to storm combo. I have to imagine that letting the spells resolve is more powerful than feeding them to make a giant non-evasive guy, but someone might find a way to break it.

Obviously terribad in Standard, but this guy makes some insanely fun Commander decks work.

..... Meh all around. The first ability punishes blocking pretty efficiently in limited, and the second ability is rarely if ever going to be relevant. The mana cost is prohibitive enough that I don't really consider this guy a top pick in limited, either, despite him being capable of removal (in an extremely preventable, situational way.) It'll be highly picked and overrated by unskilled drafters, though.

It looks like it's begging for a hug, and I want to give it said hug. @___@

But, uh.... I'm really not sure what this card is going to do. "When you cast ~X, do Y" effects are pretty okay with it, as are the very few instants and sorceries with cascade I suppose, but it just doesn't do enough without causing you pretty significant card disadvantage.

I freakin' love the card though. So Izzet it EATS SPELLS

I like that that guy gives all your instants and sorceries a kind of back up mode if they get countered or otherwise made ineffectual. So if they pump a guy in response or give it hexproof or something you just turn your spell into +1/+1s.

Also, I wonder if their willingness to print "Exile a spell" here means we will see something that lets you do it to opponent spells.

Ironically I think this guy works best against other blue decks: correct me if I'm wrong, but if you cast a spell and your opponent counters it, can't you then use the ability to eat the spell that was about to be countered?

I love this card as well. If you wanted a finisher in the Kiln Fiend vein for your deck and you don't want to be red, this might be able to do the trick. It also gives you a way to cycle spells you don't need later in the game to get some value out of them. Probably won't ever go in a competitive deck, but will be a kitchen table nightmare.
