How does Krenko work without Chieftain? That seemed to be the common concern when I was initially playtesting Goblins.

He is. Mono-red really wants to top out it's curve, ideally, at 3, with maybe a couple of 4 cmc finishers (Koth, Hellrider, Hero of Oxid Ridge). Anything beyond that slows the deck down way too much.

Hellrider makes a decent replacement. Chieftain is obviously better, but the two play very nicely with each other. And Monored is perfectly fine topping off at 4cmc. The phoenixes, koth and a few others were at 4.

Man, with Ash Zealot and Cavern, I wish they would just go back and give us old fashion Color Hosers. How Sweet would M14 be if 10 uncommons were:

Karma
Warmth
Hibernation
Chill
Perish
Gloom
Boil
Flashfires
Choke
Compost

I wonder if they would impact the metagame at all at this point.

Don't forget the blasts! Also, Deathgrip and Withering Boon for me, thanks.

Here's a rough draft for RDW:

Lands (20)
2x Hellion Crucible
18x Mountains

Creatures (20)
4x Ash Zealot
4x Guttersnipe
4x Hellrider
4x Rakdos Shred-Freak
4x Stromkirk Noble

Spells (20)
2x Bonfire of the Damned
2x Geistflame
2x Mizzium Mortars
4x Pillar of Flame
4x Searing Spear
2x Volcanic Geyser
4x Wild Guess

Sideboard (15)
2x Bonfire of the Damned
2x Mizzium Mortars
3x Pithing Needle
3x Slumbering Dragon
3x Smelt
2x Street Spasm
First stab at a RDW deck. At work right now, so I can't test it, but it seems kinda lacking. I feel like if we got maybe one or two really solid burn spells, RDW might be back in business. There's still a wealth of commons and uncommons that haven't been spoiled yet (which is where bread-and-butter burn spells usually lie) so maybe there is still hope.

Man, I hope you're right. Searing Spear, Hellion Crucible and Geistflame don't exactly scream TOP TIER CONTENDER.

But you put together a solid mix based on what's available.

I would not be looking to run RDW in Standard. There's just so very little support for it between a tribal/gy set and a multicolored set.

My god that deck looks painful. And the worst thing is that the only card I can think of off the top of my head are Mogg Flunkies (a former RDW staple), subbing in for Wild Guess (which is terrible).

A solid 1-drop burn spell would make me feel much better about the deck. Also keep in mind that Wild Guess sets off Guttersnipe.

EDIT: Thinking on it, Mogg Flunkies might not be so bad. We have three good haste creatures that can help "enable" the Flunkies.

Blistercoil Weird U/R

Creature - Weird (U)

Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, Blistercoil Weird gets +1/+1 until end of turn. Untap it.

1/1

and

Golgari Decoy 3G
Creature - Elf Rogue (U)
All creatures able to block Golgari Decoy do so.
Scavenge 3GG
2/2

It doesn't feel very... Rakdos'ish? I guess? Except for the Shatter part of it.

Alright that's true. But, mechanically speaking, it doesn't really help their goal.

I actually had a working splinterfright deck before AVR came out, I might retool that into a Golgari deck.

What does WOTC have against Rakdos?

Well, Maro keeps saying that it's totally fun and viable. I really don't see how anybody is going to be happy with a mechanic that really only has a major downside. You need to be able to block with creatures in basically every meta that has ever existed. Maybe if it also gave haste, it would have been viable, but straight up nerfing your own creatures for a minute gain is not going to go over well, IMO.

EDIT: Wow that GIF was over 20 megs. Whoops.

Haha that's amazing.

I had a moment like that yesterday. I was playing my GW Humans, my friend was playing my Krenko Goblins against me.

I was certain I was dead because he had amassed quite an army of goblins and I had very low life remaining. I draw my card for turn: Divine Deflection. In my head I'm thinking "yes! Yes! This could be what I need!".

So, I attack him with Odric and 3 other humans declaring them unblockable. He's down to 3 life now. I keep my mana open and pass turn.

He draws his card and untaps his lands. I'm just staring down an army of goblins. He looks at his field, notices his Spikeshot Elder is now a 5/5 thanks to the red M12 ring he put on it, activates his ability and does 5 damage to Odric wanting to kill him.

Yes! My last turn top deck (had no other cards in hand) saves my ass. I Divine Deflect 3 of the 5 damage back to his life total for the win. It was glorious.

Similarly, I top decked a Honor of the Pure the previous game for the win as well. Haha

EDIT:

Ugh at that Weird...giving me Kiln Fiend flashbacks...

Rakdos Charm could be an awesome EDH tool, since it's first two effects will almost always be relevant, and it's third effect will be hilarious against decks that produce a million tokens.

That card is way better than you think.

I don't think it's that bad, I just think the other charms shown so far are better.

That third effect could kill a bunch of my decks.

I'm so glad Wizards is printing a shitload of graveyard hate because of Snapcaster Mage's ridiculousness. Makes me love Ravnica even more than I should.
I hate SCM, it should not have been printed and the art is horrendous.

As someone who has thrived on graveyard shenanigans since the very early days to counter balance my elf obsession I am a bit torn on the matter.

My lunch 3 player free for all was interesting. I was playing my mono white weenie deck. Ended up with a fiend hunter, sword of war and peace and all 4 honor of the pures out. I don't think I've ever beaten 2 people to death with a fiend hunter before =p

R/B already has Dreadbore- a creature kill option would have been redundant in the color combo. (For the same reason, I don't think Golgari Charm will have one either.)

Lol I remember bricking in my GW human deck and eventually I won with the 6/6 avacyns pilgrims and a 6/8 fiend hunter, thanks to gavony township.

Round 1 of FNM complete. Waiting on round 2.

Lost game 1, won game 2, lost game 3.

My GW Humans vs his UR Delver. I made a mistake in thinking my Avacyn's Priest was summoning sick, which kept me from having exactly 3 mana open to stop his mana leak from canceling my Corrosive Gale.

Fuck.
