Go to your LGS (Local game store/shop) and ask if they have any boxes of commons/uncommons. Those are usually a much cheaper way of getting a massive amount of cards just for dicking around.

Looking forward to watching the Top 8 of the PT. Nice for it to be Modern, should be a nice counterbalance to the SCG legacy coverage we'll have later today.

I don't like Tarmogoyf being a mythic in this new thing because it is a direct response to the cards price on the secondary market and doesn't have any of the other characteristics you usually see on a mythic card.

Yeah, it being an efficient/the best bear doesn't warrant it being Mythic. As for being a response to the secondary to strengthen Modern, Modern Masters being a limited released to begin with ruins that premise in the first place. It needs a full release if they want reasonable prices.

Scapeshift with Zendikar lands, Tian is my kind of player.

You can combo win, or you can combo win in style.

I have said it before, and I will say it again.. very few things make me want to smack someone as much as the frantic shuffling through cards in hand that some players do.
It does not change what is in your hand and no, it is not some pro tech that hides what you have in your hand.
It does not take frenzied flipping through your hand every few seconds to do it.
These people make me want to channel the ghost of Sam Kinison.

It's a habit lol, who gives a shit. People complaining about it annoys me more.

Considering how awful this is for camera games, there is no way this deck survives the next wave of bannings, right? My guess is Lotus Bloom gets the axe.

Ban this dumb combo deck just for people's sanity. I don't think it's too powerful but if I was playing a Modern event it would be literally the last thing I'd want to face.
The player seems happy to be there though.

I don't know what they should ban because only the blue draw is played in other decks. Probably Lotus Bloom or Sunrise / Faith's Reward.

Eggs is likely more trouble than it's worth so I don't think it'll be up for the chopping block.

I'm kind of wondering if they're going to do that. I just traded for a set of blooms expecting this deck to perform okay, it t8ing was shocking. The power level most certainly does not warrant a ban, but it's very possible Second Sunrise or Bauble will see bans due to the fact that the deck itself is prone to slow play/stalling penalties thanks to its masturbatory nature. Divining Top was banned for a similar reason.

Also, something I didn't notice when I said I didn't think jund would see a single top 8 slot: Jund had more presence at the pro tour than the next four most popular decks combined.

Day 1, Jund was nearly 32% of the field. Of the eight most popular decks, it performed the worst, only being 29% of the field day 2. Despite the t8 slots, I'm still completely unconvinced Jund is a good choice in Modern right now.

Kiki combo was the best performing deck day 1. Just sayin'.

It is really easy to hate out honestly, expected to see more GY hate in sideboards.

Am I the only one who desont care for modern

It just seems like it's turning into legacy lite at this stage. i'd like a 2nd modern to be made eventually

It still has a lot more variety than legacy despite all the jund.

Better than Countertop vs Delver.

>performed worse than any other deck day 1
>rarely t8s a daily event
>domination

There's no dominant deck. Modern is still the most diverse format in Magic, with Aggro, Control, Combo, and Tempo all being extremely powerful and relevant styles of play.

I mean in terms of turnout and frequency :3

Fair enough :P

I'm slightly disappointed that Kiki combo was the "popular" choice of pod deck this weekend. I realize it's more powerful than Melira at the moment, but I didn't see one Melira-Pod deck.

Well, you forgot Maverick and Know and Tell.

But Couterbalance has died off in number of playing due to the emerge of abrupt decay says, hey I have all this mana, gonna AD your CB. Then Nature's Claim your humility, then Pridemage your ensnaring bridge.

LOL. And then swing with two 12/12 KoFs and a batterskull.

This format is boring as drying shit.
The coverage might be making it worse than it really is, but the jury is still out on that.

Modern is sort of a joke. They are doing everything to work around the ridiculous reserve list, making new formats, making new premium series that nobody can buy in store, printing cards only good in that one format...everything but doing the right thing and getting rid of the reserve list.

The coverage is bad, the top 4 decks happen to be boring. Jund, eggs, and scapeshift aren't fun to play or watch.

Who's gonna go off first????

The suspense is killing me!

No it isn't.

Go scapeshift.

Did I just miss something here?

Thoughtseize for Obstinate Baloth, and.... he didn't put it on the field?

EDIT: Oh, wait, thought pointing at the baloth was choosing it. He chose the batterskull.

Grand Prix schedule for the first part of next year:

The Modern Masters Limited GP in Vegas is fucking tempting.

GP Las Vegas.... might be the first tournament I ever travel more than 3 hours to get to. Never been to Vegas before, and that is going to be an awesome tournament.

The thought of playing Modern Master limited is by far the most interesting part of that whole product for me.

I wonder if I could swing going to Vegas, because that sounds sweet.

I screamed when he cast the Grapeshot for 1 less than he actually needed to win. I know that Eggs is an incredibly difficult deck to play, but how the hell do you miss that? If there were a god, he would have lost for that.

I was waiting for his opponent to force him to go through the motions just on the off-chance he screwed up somehow.

I was listening to lansdellicious's commentary where they mentioned that possibility a minute before. I'm just glad that Yuuya didn't force Cifka to go through it all again just for the last few points of damage.

Wait, so how does the Charbelcher work if there aren't any land in your deck (because you've tutored the Taiga to your hand)? You mill yourself, but does it still go off if it never hits anything?

Yeah, it reveals the rest of your deck (so 30+ damage), and then technically it is all shuffled bad in. It doesn't need to hit anything to deal damage, it's the cards revealed before that that matter; hitting a land only lets it potentially double the damage.

Congrats to Cifka on that victory - despite how agonizing that deck is to watch on camera, I love seeing wacky decks take down tournaments. He absolutely next-leveled this tournament, and was rightly rewarded for it.

That being said, this deck has to be fairly easy to hate out. I can't imagine it'll end up breaking the format.

I think Modern is a fairly interesting format; I just honestly think the banned list is too big. I get that when the format was first created they wanted people to try to find new decks rather than just slap together their favorite Standard decks from the past few waves, but I think it's unnecessary.

The biggest problem with the format is the lack of a true control deck. The best part of the format is that the OP OG dual lands aren't in it.

Vision really needs to come off the list at this point to try and facilitate a control strategy.

Jace SHOULD be safe in the format, but the problem is that he can't be unbanned safely right now because he's already ridiculously expensive.

While I'm happy that Wizards has decided to agressivly use the ban list to keep degenerate decks in check rather than take the legacy approach to the format (Let Force of Will keep people honest), I do think they can scale back that ban list. Keep mistakes like Jace and Disciple out of the format, and you can probably use permanent marker on camera poison like Top, but they should probably unban lots of things. Hypergenesis, Wild Nactal, and Dread Return are probably safe to take off the list, and I'm pretty sure Bitterblossom and Jitte would also be fine to bring back.

Visions never should've been banned. Jace is unsafe for more reasons than cost in my opinion (mono blue and blue white control are already very close to being top decks in the MTGO meta,) but visions would not push them far enough to be dominant. WOTC is understandably afraid of control, however.

Visions could probably be taken off the list safely. JTMS probably won't be banned in Modern for a long, long time if ever. It's still one of the best cards in Legacy for a reason.
