Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available NOW

About connecting to my PS4 via PS app, should I tweak some settings before being able to find it on the app?

I downloaded the app for the first time today and it says No PS4 found. I remember seeing an option to allow connection with the PS app toda on the PS4 and it was checked, but maybe I need to do some other stuff first to be able to connect remotely from other networks.

Guys, do we have any solid info/testing on remote play improvements at all?

I've heard it's massively improved PS4 to PSTV but it would be nice to see comparison.

Same with Vita, I've been playing destiny a while on my vita, and since the two updates I'm sure the image quality has improved, i can't see compression at all ( unless the signal goes weak ) and I'm positive the lag has improved.

will check that out tonight.

My PS4 has been working flawlessly so far after the update (knocks on wood). Havent really checked if they borked up Rest/Standby, will find out later I guess.. I did reboot it twice after installing; I usually do that with PC's as well just to make sure that everything is working correctly. Also; I have the impression that it boots up a bit faster; anyone else noticed that?

why would a OS team be better or "preferably based in the UK or US"

The PS4 is primarily being bought by people in the US and Europe. The UI should reflect that, in terms of what it's being used for and functionality. It's a very strange decision to have a team in Japan design it.

the current team moves at a glacial pace

the OS is still missing very basic features after a whole year

it makes sense to have them based in markets where the console is being most heavily used

finally communication, its vital for them to have their ear to the ground, the problems we're hearing about after every update would mean a faster turn around.

Well.. it is a Japanese company... or, how about moving the Japanese OS developers to the US or UK? based on your concerns, would that improve things?

Sony is a Japanese company - seems pretty normal to me.

Their PS3 firmware team was Japanese as well and they did an awesome job with that. The pace of PS4 updates and their priority is no doubt set by people much higher up the food chain at Sony. If you had an offshore team I suspect nothing would change, because you'd have the same people calling the shots anyway.

Was shareplaying Resogun with a friend and I got trophy popups that applied to the visitor, even though he doesn't own the game.
If he checks his earned trophies are they actually there? Because that would be amusing (and probably patched out fairly sharpish).

Remote play improvements you say? Gotta try that out tonight, I've been constantly disappointed with RP, even on the same network (with the ps4 wired, doing it over the network instead of connect directly, etc).

It is the product manager's responsibility to have his/her ear to the ground and determine what the market wants and provide the dev team with a task list. So the location of the devs, in my opinion, is irrelevant, as they aren't responsible for deciding which feature is to be implemented next, they are only responsible for the implementation itself.

So the question we need to ask is who is deciding what features are to be worked on next and how can we get his/her ear.

I don't want the system to boot up with the default theme and then load the custom theme after I've logged in!

It needs to do that so it can load the correct theme for each person that might log in. If you have it set to auto-login, that's something else, but even then it will default load the standard, then check for auto-login and log you in and load your theme.

Still waiting for Sony to fix the sign in issue with the Youtube app, I can't upload my videos to Youtube through the PS4.
The firmware has added great features overall.

When I am livestreaming, you can barely hear my party chat. I have it enabled to work, but you can't really hear anything from anyone. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

It took me three attempts to pair my youtube account but did it in the end. But now I can't upload anything - tried with a previously saved video clip and also a freshly captured one in-game. It gives the notification that it is added to uploads, then immediately notifies me that the upload failed.

Anyone else having issues?

So I download the update and have to turn it off, right? Do I hold down the power button, do I shut down through the menu on PS4, or do I have to pull its plug to make sure its off?

Looks like I'm going back to the PS3 way to charge the controllers, set the PS4 sleep mode as far out as so I can and shut it off manually after they charge. Two steps forward one step back, I guess.

Yes it doesn't work at the moment.

Hi,

If your PS4 comes back up after your update with out any problems, and you want to be safe make sure when you shut down your machine, do not put it in stand by mode " “Rest Mode.” and you should not have any problems.

If not press the power button for 20-30 seconds and it will shut down and when you turn it back on it will rebuild the database and then when you shutdown do a regular power off and not the Reset Mode.

I've had my console get stuck in rest mode once last night and once today. I also get an error every time I try and link YouTube to my account. So far this hasn't been the best experience for me.

Isn't the OS itself (UI) made by a non-Japanese person? I seem to remember a link floating around about the guy who created it.

Anyone else having problems uploading videos or connecting their YouTube account to their system?

I managed to link them today after a few tries. Went to upload a video immediately after I successfully linked them and it asked me to link them again. So after 4 or 5 tries I managed again to link them. Clicked upload and it failed, tried 5 or 6 times then gave up. Youtube sharing is completely broken for me. Very disappointed.

Each player has to opt-in to having their voice reproduced in broadcasts for privacy.

So how many people were able to successfully play multiplayer games last night? That's my only real concern here. I'm planning on buying Advanced Warfare on Monday, and I want to be able to play it that night.

I played some BF4 around 5 or 6 CST yesterday and it was working for me.

so... is psn STILL down?, since yesterday nothing works for me (store, friends list, trophies, what´s new area). Also can´t log into Destiny, and when I turn off my console (i almost never use standby or rest mode). I hear three beeps, what does that mean???
Get your shit together Sony

I stand corrected;
PS4 not responding this morning
Power button does not respond to press
Eject button beeps but does nothing
Controllers do not power it on, wired or wireless
Phone App does not see system
VITA can not find system
A disc is in the drive, thought it worked last night with one in
I did disable USB power before stand bye, but not likely the issue
Tried pulling all chords BUT power chord, no changes

Held down power button and system eventually turned off, restarted with power button and system did a disc check and warned me of improper shut downs causing harm.

System did not need to resynch controllers, everything back to normal after restart.

Attempted rest mode again, system responded to controller after doing so.

Appears to possibly relate to extended rest mode time, possibly auto start for system checks and uploads also.

Running test this morning, system in rest mode now, solid orange light, light fan on for now. Will see if fan turns off and if wake for check occurs and then leads to possible lockup.

Recommend all users stop rest mode until Sony fixes issue or risk bricking.

*UPDATE* System went to blinking orange light after 5 minutes, hold down power to unfreeze, powered on with controller, disc check and everything ok again.

Running test 2; ejecting disc and going into rest mode

You are going through what I had at launch. I suffered for two months with a glitchy system thinking I could restore the problem away.

Get a new system. Takes about a week.

Once I had restarted after the update and placed the machine into the new "rest mode" only to find that I could not get the machine to start up again without pulling the power cable and letting it start.

I got it working after some time and effort. YMMV, but I'd like to share the steps involved:

1. Turn off the PS4, do not put it into "rest mode".
2. Start in safe mode. This is done by pressing and holding the power button on the PS4 itself. Hold it for 7 seconds, waiting to release the power button until you hear a second beep. Then the PS4 will tell you to attach a controller using the included USB cable.
3. Plug in the DualShock4 using the USB cable and select the third option: "Update System Software".
4. Let the PS4 do it's thing and it will bring you to the XMB when it's done.
5. Repeat step 1.
6. Repeat step 2.
7. Attach Dual Shock 4 as described in step 3.
8. Select the fifth option from the menu: "Rebuild Database".
9. Test to see if this fixes your issue by putting the PS4 into "rest mode".

If it worked you should no longer see the light on the PS4 blinking orange, it should return to a solid orange glow. Then you should be able to use "rest mode" again.

As I stated at the beginning YMMV, I've had many tell me this worked for them as it has for me, but there were easily as many responses on the Playstation support forums saying it didn't work for them.

I had to stop using standby months ago because of the exact issue so many people are now experiencing. Nice of Sony to implement that "feature" for everyone!
