Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available NOW

As a side note, the "online friends" icon above the friends icon definitely stands out more on anything but the default blue wave. I can now see that it is a blue dot and not an "O".

folks keep mentioning tracert, but ping would be the more appropriate tool to quickly measure latency from a windows box.

ping might not go through tho... tracert will likely let you go to the router pretty close to the destination... plus you will be able to see possible issues with the trace as well.

Yeah, this update broke my ability to put it in standby too. That sucks since that also means I can't use remote play with my Vita until this is fixed since my PS4 won't wake from standby. I was wondering why it wouldn't connect.

Same here very disappointed since this update made remote play to my pstv perfect! Was playing Wolfenstein on pstv with zero noticeable lag shadow of mordor was awesome to. Now I have to turn it on first before I want to remote play.

after reading 68 pages of horror about the standby problem, downloaded and installed the update, shut it down completely afterwards, rebooted, put it in rest mode.. and ...

u guess it..

...

it worked.

installed youtube, linked my account, put in a usb stick with music, played destiny all nite with deathmetal blasting and euh. im sorry to read all the trouble some ppl had ;/

I just want a dynamic theme with the more detailed ribbon and the Playstation shapes floating around like what's on the box packaging and the promo materials.

I updated an hour or so ago. First the PS4 kept trying to eject a disc (even when there was not a disc in the drive), so I turned it off. 30 minutes later it started beeping and wouldn't stop. It finally stopped beeping after I got into the recovery menu and restarted the PS4 normally.

First time this happened after a firmware update. Really odd.

Youtube app is much faster than on PS3. It also streams really well with my crappy 1MB connection, while it stuttered all the time on PS3. I really like it.

Downloaded the Destiny dynamic theme, I go to use it and notice there's a lock over the icon. Try to use the theme but it tells me I need to purchase it from the store first. Um.... Ok, I'll bite. So I go to the store and it clearly says the theme is "purchased." It downloaded already, but its not in my library. I can't even try to purchase it again, as it says "purchased" where the download button usually is.

I'm guessing this is tied to the PSN issues we had today, but what a weird glitch.

how does someone give me access during shareplay?

1. Join a party with host.
2. Host selects "Share Play".
3. Host selects "Give controller".
4. Host selects whether it's you playing for him or you two playing together.
5. Enjoy one hour of gameplay. Host can take the controller from you any time or can extend the Share Play for as long as you like.

It seems to take equally as long to start up from either mode.

That is because it is not "suspended". It is just asleep. It does basically the full boot process. The only difference is it will download updates/patches, remote play, told remotely to download games if you order them from the webstore etc.

Only problem I've stumbled into so far is difficulty signing into Youtube.

Everything else is running much smoother and snappier than prior to the update. I also really like the improved voice commands.

Overall, the UI just feels a lot more polished.

wow the voice quality on party chat is so good now i noticed it the second people started to talk i am happy about this.

Yeah, it's the same as Suspend Mode that they originally had. This is just a renaming.

Sony might be working on a proper Suspend Mode that doesn't shut off the entire console and just let's you do instant wake up.

I updated the system while I was home for lunch. When I went into the store to check for the Youtube app (which wasn't there) I noticed that every time I went back to the menu on the left from a selection it kicked me out to the dashboard.

So

Dash -> Store -> Scroll Down past all the ad entries to Games and Select -> Look through games -> Hit button to go back to select Apps on the left but instead I am kicked back to Dash.

after looking at the official change log they seems to have missed a few bits, some are great changes that should have been mentioned.

- party chat quality has improved
- images can be linked directly to text chat
- friends list now has a join party section. much easier to join parties
- there is now a slider for party chat/game audio mixing
- manually check for game updates
- invite screen has been redesigned
- system storage now showing decimal places

No, it "rests" in a lower power state. They just renamed standby to rest because reasons.

"Sleep mode" has a different meaning with PCs. You can't really call it sleep mode on PS4 when the console is downloading updates, charging controllers etc.

Wow the themes are really really underwhelming. The second I go into any menu it reverts back to the regular PlayStation blue! Wth is the point of the themes?!

On the other hand the white theme called rectangular is awesome. I like it about a billion times more on practically every level from sound effects to the BGM.

The font is still white for stuff on the main page though so I can't actually see it that well.

The good news is that it appears I can now use Remote Play when a USB headset is connected finally lol. Once the standby/rest thing is fixed I'll be set! Before this update it would give me some error if I forgot to unplug my Astro Mixamp first.
