What do people think of the suggested friends feature? Has anyone else been recommended friends/people they know from Facebook?

Once I had restarted after the update and placed the machine into the new "rest mode" only to find that I could not get the machine to start up again without pulling the power cable and letting it start.

I got it working after some time and effort. YMMV, but I'd like to share the steps involved:

1. Turn off the PS4, do not put it into "rest mode".
2. Start in safe mode. This is done by pressing and holding the power button on the PS4 itself. Hold it for 7 seconds, waiting to release the power button until you hear a second beep. Then the PS4 will tell you to attach a controller using the included USB cable.
3. Plug in the DualShock4 using the USB cable and select the third option: "Update System Software".
4. Let the PS4 do it's thing and it will bring you to the XMB when it's done.
5. Repeat step 1.
6. Repeat step 2.
7. Attach Dual Shock 4 as described in step 3.
8. Select the fifth option from the menu: "Rebuild Database".
9. Test to see if this fixes your issue by putting the PS4 into "rest mode".

If it worked you should no longer see the light on the PS4 blinking orange, it should return to a solid orange glow. Then you should be able to use "rest mode" again.

As I stated at the beginning YMMV, I've had many tell me this worked for them as it has for me, but there were easily as many responses on the Playstation support forums saying it didn't work for them.

Ridiculous that people have to do this to fix something which should have never have been broken in the first place :/

They've got nothing on a LOT of companies. Firmware updates can be hard, especially when it's for an OS that is complex and does as much as modern consoles do.

Recommended me someone, I don't know who the fuck they are, doesn't even say if they are friends with anyone I know on PSN or who they are friends with on Facebook... Gives me some ugly photo of the person I would rather not have anywhere in my UI.

Updated my new PS4 this morning with trepidation. Update went well. Did an immediate power off as suggested earlier in this thread. Turned it back on 5-minutes later with the DS4 again with no issue. I could not help myself, I had to know. I used Rest mode to turn off the PS4 (with power to the USB and Internet connection - need to recharge my DS4 and Gold Headset - and COD:AW needs to preload!). I gave it 10-minutes and turned it back on with the DS4 and it worked. Went to Shareplay and told it to download and the PS4 immediately shut down. Tried holding down the power button for 30-seconds but no go. I had to unplug the console, gave it 5-minutes and plugged it back in. Grrrr ... This sucks! How are all my November games going to pre-load if I cannot use Rest!?

I tried to link my YouTube account five times before I gave up. Seems to be a problem working with Google's double verification. I was able to enter the sms code every time but kept receiving a server error.

Great first impressions for someone who has owned a PS4 for less than 21-days.

Launch Shadow of Mordor, hit the share button, and Share Play should be one of the options.

Am I missing something, can you not pre-load with your PS4 on? (I never preloaded, so I don't know)

Has anyone thats been having problems tried reinstalling the firmware. That's what I would usually do when having problems with an Android Rom

The only problem I'm having is not being able to link YouTube and that seems like a network problem. Rest mode still works perfectly.

I have never pre-loaded either. I thought that was the entire reason for "Rest" mode - to download updates and pre-load digital games.

I am proper salty that I'm not given the opportunity to have this theme! Well, not unless I buy a 1000 yen card, which I am not going to do. If it gets added to the UK/US store in the foreseeable future then fair enough, I won't complain, but I get the feeling that's never going to happen, because Sony would rather be pricks about this sort of thing for no discernible reason. It's like they think gaijin people are allergic to Doko Demo Issyo or something.

Are the characters purely copyright of Sony? I only ask because it's almost bizarre the lengths they go to to stop exposing us to them at this point.

Either way, I got the 1,000 yen card and I'm happy. I'll save that yen for some other themes that are JP exclusive most likely.

I ended up creating a JP PSN account to download the themes.

Australian PSN store updated this morning, but the themes are still not available and the 'search in store' icon in the themes settings menu is missing

I managed to install the themes anyway, by downloading them with my US account

This issue is clearly caused by the firmware update, it just doesnt affect everyone. No use spreading false advise like this to people
