Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available NOW

I cannot wake my PS4 from Rest Mode after this update

always have to unplug to get access to my system again

this is stupid I need a solution it worked just fine before

I want a dynamic theme that draws a procedural city based on the number of games, captures, and saves you have on your system. Sort of like the PS2 had.

or one with that crazy NASA globe from the folding at home project, but with online friends lit up on the map, along with heat maps of PSN usage.

This issue is clearly caused by the firmware update, it just doesnt affect everyone. No use spreading false advise like this to people

He just needs to hold out like everyone else until Sony fix it

Maybe, maybe not...I would agree with you if everyone who updated was facing the same problem but that's not the case. I would be surprised that a firmware bug could selectively disturb some units but not all of them on a closed hardware environment like games consoles.

You can't have custom parts on PS4.

Except the hard drive...

From reading some posts here it seems it happens when a game(&app?) is still running/suspended when choosing Rest mode?
I guess that's why for many it worked to remove the disc because it's the last game they've played.
So "close application" would do the trick, unless someone has tried that already and it didn't work.

Not a fix but I already do it usually out of habit because it had happened to me a couple times (prior to 2.0) that the system would beep (that can't-shutdown-beep from the PS3) upon going into Rest mode when a game was running and either took longer to go into standby or restarted instantly.

Hopefully a bug caused by working on Suspend/Resume behind the scenes :P

gonna test this out later. this would make sense. i thought i was out of the woods but the first time i set it to resume was immediately after updating. i wasn't playing anything. last night i finished up playing evil within and set it to RIP to charge my controller. noticed that there was no orange bar...it was either still pulsing blue or was white (can't recall exactly). had to hard reset using the power button.

I'm not an engineer for Sony so I cannot answer that accurately....but I can tell you, noone had an issue with Standby/rest mode until after this firmware update.

lol. Have you heard of anyone having problems before this update?

Yes this is also a possibility.

2.0 may have a problem when entering in rest mode while an app or a game is still active in background.

Definetely a Firmware bug then if confirmed

I went through that process posted earlier by updating the firmware and checking the database from safe mode. I clean booted into the XMB and tested rest mode and it proceeded to hang with the flashing amber light as before...so this wasnt the fix for me

I had my FIFA 15 disc in the drive and a usb cable plugged into the USB port (not plugged into the controller though)...but I fail to see why this would cause the issue.

Sony just need to hotfix this issue

I had the same issue with rest mode, i found it was consistently not working if i had no ds4 paired with my ps4 ( i only have one and was using it to test RP with my ps vita tv and z3 phone). I have the ds4 paired back with the ps4 now and havent had any rest mode issues since, have tested about 5 times now.

Pretty safe to assume most people will have a DS4 paired with their console when putting it into rest mode.

Give this man a raise!

I've had problems prior to 2.0. Twice when going into standby mode I had a pulsing white light bar; no response to long press on power button, needed to be unplugged to restart.

First rest mode since 2.0 gave a flashing orange bar and triple beep, but normal power up worked OK. It's been OK since then.

I think there is a software issue, but there's some random factor involved. I expect a patch during November.

I had the same sort of problem, where the yellow light was flashing on the PS4 and the system wouldn't turn on at all. The light on the Dualshock 4 would go blue, but the console itself kept flashing yellow. I set all of the new power save settings to all off, and it hasn't occurred since. Kind of a weird ass bug.

So does anyone who knows a little bit more about the subject care to inform me as to whether or not custom downloadable themes are possible? Like the ones we got for PS3 (from sites like ps3-themes.com)

I mean with custom icons, backgrounds (or even changing wallpapers) and menu sounds, not just wallpapers.

Really wish there was a green theme. What's with the lack of colours? USB music is whack too. I can stream media from my PC to my 360, and even put music on the hard drive. Why is a more powerful machine struggling to do this?

Not at the moment. I think they have to be signed by Sony and distributed via the store.

Maybe they will allow custom themes on PS4 one day but I wouldn't count on it.

so is there a percentage of users that the Rest Mode bug has affected? I've had no issues so far. My only issue is the YouTube sign on problem.

What do people think of the suggested friends feature? Has anyone else been recommended friends/people they know from Facebook?

Oh yeah, randomly got that yesterday "Players You May Know" I think it said. I was confused at first, and then I checked their friends list and saw our mutual friend. Not sure whose setting triggered it, pretty sure it's not mine considering I don't have a facebook account linked.

I'm not even sure where that is? I don't have a facebook account, is that the only way it works maybe?

It's not based on Facebook. It just defaults to showing you close friends of close friends, where close friends are defined as people with whom you share your real name. I turned it off.

The Safe Mode is the best solution. I didn't have the rest bug initially and my PS4 froze and the rest bug happened and I tried the hold the power button and it allowed me access to my PS4 but the rest bug was still there. Someone in the other thread stated the safe mode has worked for many people and I tried it link below
https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5044/~/ps4:-safe-mode

Just follow the steps and rest mode isn't a problem.

Starting the PS4 in Safe Mode

Turn off the PlayStation 4 by pressing the power button on the front panel. The power indicator will blink for a few moments before turning off.
Once the PlayStation 4 is off, press and hold the power button. Release it after you've heard two beeps: one when you initially press, and another 7 seconds later.
Connect the DualShock 4 controller with the provided USB cable and press the PS button on the controller.

Safe Mode Options

The following options are available in Safe Mode:

Restart System - Ends Safe Mode and restarts the PlayStation 4 normally.

Change Resolution - Changes the screen resolution to 480p when the PlayStation 4 is restarted.

Update System Software - Allows the PlayStation 4 to update the system software via
Internet, USB Drive, or Disc.

Restore Default Settings - Restores the PlayStation 4 to the default factory settings.

Rebuild Database - Scans the drive and creates a new database of all content.
This operation may take a long time depending on the type and number of data items.

Initialize PS4 - IMPORTANT: All data and settings will be lost by performing this step.
Deletes all user data and restores the PS4 as if it just came out of the box. This option is the same as [Initialize PS4 ] in the (Settings) menu. System software (firmware) is not deleted.

Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software) - IMPORTANT: Deletes all information on the HDD, including the System Software. A message that states a USB storage device containing the System Software must be connected, is displayed. Then you can confirm the selection.

Add me to the Rest bug list. Keeps happening to me almost everytime. I'm just going to do a full shut down until they patch it.

This isn't a new glitch to me entirely. I would say since I bought my day one PS4, I may have had a Stand By/Rest Mode freeze up maybe 4 times. With v 2.00, it's happening all the time now.

Is the rest bug random or is there a pattern? Do people have games running in the background before resting, or did you close them down first?

Yup same. Had it happen maybe 5-6 times since launch, but now it's every time.

The annoying thing is that the @AskPlaystation account just keeps telling people to reinstall the update or rebuild their database, even though that clearly doesn't fix it for people.

Lol. I asked and this is the response I got

@AskPlayStation Is there a fix for the standby/rest mode coming? Safe mode, reinstalling update, database rebuild don't work.‏

is anyone experiencing any problems with the PlayStation Store not loading up?

sometimes I have to turn off the PlayStation and back on for it to work.
I've had this problem for many months. Unless the Store is the first thing I load after turning on my PS4, all I'll generally get after selecting the Store is a blank blue background (just the dynamic ribbon/waves thingy) and a cancel prompt. It'll sit on that screen for hours if I don't cancel it. Running a network test (from Settings), signing out and then signing back in, or restarting the PS4 will fix it. The network test is the most convenient.

I did find a handy use for the "Pause Download" feature.

I'm DL'ing Walking Dead S2 (4+GB) and the time to download was 3 hours and was that way for 10 minutes, so I paused and almost immediately restarted the DL and now it's only 20 minutes to download. Not much but good enough for me.

So my PS4 has been in standby (rest) mode for around 4 hours now as I wanted to watch some TV. Around 30 minutes ago I noticed the orange light pulsing on and off, it's still doing it just now. That shouldn't be happening should it?
