Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available NOW

How to fix Youtube Upload and sign in issues:

If you have previous attempted and can't sign into Youtube or use Upload Features try this:

Go into your google account settings, Account Permissions and revoke access to PSN.

Go back to PS4, link to other services, and re-sign in and you should see a access grant list, approve it.

Upload and Youtube Access will now work.

This also worked for me. Thanks!

There is something seriously wrong with the way Sony has decided to handle saves on the PS4. Going through my online data they now display actual file sizes rather than just the general 11MB, but every single save is 10.5MB+, every single one regardless of what information that save is for. Which means in total, assuming no save is bigger than 11MB, we will be able to upload about 90 save files.

Now I don't know about anyone else, but I had to delete a ton of saves that were rather useless because my online storage was full with no knowledge of this, meaning the last month or so of save games haven't been uploaded. Just looking in the Minecraft folder there is for some reason 2 save games per world, which means for the 4 worlds along with profile data I am taking up over 100MB for one game. Trails alone was taking over 200MB, and I barely played that came when it came out and never went back. What in the world are they sticking in these saves to make them so big?

It isn't the biggest issue now, but with so many games coming out in the next couple months and the crazy amount of releases for 2015, what space is left is going to disappear fast. I can't remember ever having this issue on the PS3.
I made a thread about this a while ago, no one knew wtf is going on there.

A Trials save should be a few KBs, really.

Are you sure its Sony and not the devs? There was that one NBA2K14 bug where the save file was gigantic. Took up like half my cloud storage.

It does seem to be very coincidental all the saves are the same size if it waS the devs fault. I'm in the same boat. I had know idea my saves weren't being uploaded.

Anyone else with volume issues on the Sony gold headset..

I want to play more mordor but those loud sound effects..

I have the opposite problem evidently... but it has nothing to do with the 2.0 update. Although I'm happy my Logitech G930 headphones are compatible, I have to turn the volume all the way up in the (hold PS) menu just for it to be barely loud enough to be usable. Come on Sony, I know the Big Brothers of the world apparently need to protect all of us from ourselves (puke) but this is ridiculous.

...and you have another success story, JordanBlack68. Thanks!

Maybe Sony should just copy and paste this into their FAQ?

Well back to flashing orange again, hurry up Sony and patch this rest bug.

Things I have tried

Pulling the cord
Holding power
Safe Mode restart.

I have a question for you, do you happen to have a disc in the system. I was having the issue yesterday. Went in rebuilt database and it seemed to work fine but the second time I'd go into rest mode i would flash orange. Read elsewhere that people had success if they took out any discs. So I took out the disc that was in my system and haven't had a problem yet after going into rest mode about 10 times.

I had shadow of mordor in mine when it did it I rebuilt database stopped but ya know I haven't left a disc in either.

You know these are the kind of issues a preview program would help eliminate:)

Welp, first hard lock since the update. PS4 died and wouldn't turn back on.

I unplugged the power cord and plugged back in, nothing. It ended up turning back on after a minute and a few tries. I seriously thought it had died for a moment.

EDIT: Before this happened I had no issues whatsoever with the update.

Def got the pulsing orange light here...really pretty pathetic on Sony's part...glacially slow at updating the PS4's OS over the course of the year and they still can't get things right...

Their entire firmware team should be shitcanned

I think they needed to push out a few more stability updates before the 2.0 update imo

lol...

What they need to do is hire competent software engineers for the firmware team and start doing a preview system like MS uses...obviously their internal testing is woefully inadequate if they couldn't catch this type of issue...

Worst part is I had not looked at my PS4 since the day 2.0 was released...so its been sitting there on my shelf with the fan spinning away and the light pulsing since the update installed and I turned off the PS4 lol

Unfortunately Sony will never be at the same level as MS when it comes to firmware updates, after all, they are in the business of developing OSs

I have to tip my hat to MS and how they have improved the Xbones firmware since release...and all their updates have been very smooth with minimal issues (in so small part to their testing program as you highlighted)

I agree Sony need some sort of beta testing program as well, it shouldn't be too difficult to implement you would think

THUMBS UP!

I previously was unable to log into the YouTube app, but tried these steps and have now been able to connect successfully. Thank you for posting this!

I'm almost getting tired of the "Sony is a hardware company, MS is a software company" argument...there are PLENTY of exceptionally talented people out there...including former (or current) MS or Apple employees with years of experience creating operating systems...

Sony needs to go get them...

Meh, I celebrated too soon. I did those steps and was able to link the accounts but I can't upload or sign-in on the app. And now PSN doesn't show up to revoke. Oh well

i haven't read the entire thread but did anyone notice this yet?

For me at the very least, it's common after an unplug for the ps4 to take 1 or 2 tries before it really boots up.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This has been bugging me the past couple of days now. I make use of YouTube on a daily basis and not having a working YouTube was a bit annoying.

I made use of youtube.com/tv prior to this update but ever since the 2.0 update, any time I try to scroll up with the right thumb stick through my subscriptions, it would scroll down instead. Scrolling down properly still worked fine. It was more than a bit annoying.

My PS4 just hard locked by just updating the activity feed, haha.

Rebooted and got the checking storage screen and then it rebooted again, everything seems fine now.

Filled out the crash report on the 2nd reboot telling them what happened so hope it helps.

This really is pathetic lol...booting into safe mode and forcing the update again seemed to work...as it sat in rest mode just fine... However, turning it back on and then putting it into rest mode again just now, and we're back to the pulsing orange light..

LoL Sony...sad...

Experienced the rest mode problem earlier. I'm just gonna turn the console completely off until this gets fixed.

How the hell did this get past Sony's testing or whatever?

Turn off the console via the menu, unplug from the wall for a minute, reboot. That seemed to fix my issues.

Once I got home, ps4 still in rest mode.. no problems and my youtube been working fine now and uploading fine.. stealth stability updates?..lol

I assume it was due to traffic on PSN.?

So the rest mode bug just ruined all my remote play plans from out of town. Thanks Sony for bug testing the shit out of this update.....

Rest mode is broken. I have had to hard reset the last two times I have tried to boot up my PS4, prompting the storage check after booting. This is making me nervous.

Rest feature is broken, works when it wants to.
And people continue turn a blind eye to the fact that Sony has a habit of breaking things with firmware updates.

Anyway, it's shutdown until they fix this issue.

shut it down..

Let it run updates etc... when you're using it.
Better than hard resetting every other time you use the Rest feature, and potentially damaging your system.

dont think I'm getting 1080p on YouTube. anyone else?

It's 1080p but quality auto adjusts. Might just be your ISp having a bad connection to whatever cdn is hosting the video. I occasionally have poor performance on time warner cable even with 100/10 connection

Put my PS4 in rest mode. When I returned I hit my start button on my controller that was still plugged into USB. Controller flashed white and console beeped like it was going to turn on but it just sat there flashing yellow. Pressed power button for 15 seconds or more. pS4 rebooted then shut down. Started up and did a HD check. Rebooted again and started normally. I'm done with rest mode for now. I hear that unplugging the PS4 when it's locked up is a no no.

It might be worth trying alternate DNS servers. It takes just a moment and if it doesn't work it's easy enough to revert back to the previous values.

No problem at all with rest mode here, tried about 10 times since yesterday.
My only issue is the fact that uploading videos to Youtube is broken because you can't sign in correctly.

Still it's evident that whatever strategy Sony is using to test their firmware releases before they are made available to the public isn't working at a level to be considered predictable of what's going to happen when million users update their consoles.
Too many bugs go unnoticed and when new big features are introduced, we make the beta testing for them and now we'll have to deal with stability updates fixing the bugs in the upcoming weeks :P
My opinion is that they should reconsider the fact of leaving firmware updates in the hands of a single japanese team, those guys can't handle it alone.

My PSN account doesn't even appear there.

Mine neither.
That solution doesn't work for me.

-I have 2 YouTube accounts with same email.

-When I try link account with PS4 it ask me what account I want to use.

-If I select the account for my good YT channel it doesn't ask for any permission but it says account sucess...
-Google linked accounts doesn't show PSN.

-If I select the original account (that shows your name and email) it ask for Permission you accept and it says everything is ok.
-Google linked accounts shows PSN.
-Every time you unlink your account from PS4 menu Google account permission is deleted automatically.
-If I select again the original account (that shows your name and email) it ask me again for permission.

-No matter what I do I can't upload video from any of the two accounts.

probably mentioned a million times already but for people with the rest mode problem: when shutting down your PS4 use the "turn off" option rather than the "enter rest" option. After that if you boot up your PS4 later and start using rest mode it doesn't seem to cause any problems.
