Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available NOW

What are the recommended speeds for SharePlay from Sony ? I tried a session with my cousin who lives in the same city but always get the "your connection is too slow, update you Internet fucka" message. 500kb/s up is not enough it seems :( 1mbit minimum I guess ?

Have 3mbit and it's not enough.

Since my 1 year ps+ from launch is almost up I'm going to let it lapse until I need it (either a good PS+ offering or work related since I test games once in a while). Once Uncharted drops I'll resub long term again.

The stability of the PSN has been abysmal and ruins any value the other features would add. I can't believe it takes over 1 minute to send chat messages to friends.

For the first time, my PS4 could not read a BluRay movie disc when inserted. It made loud spinning noises for a few seconds then said "Unrecognized Disc." There are zero scratches or scuffs on the disc.

Anyone else experienced this since the update?

I think you might want to look into buying a new router. It takes me a few seconds to send a message using my EU PSN account... FROM JAPAN.

My friend in the UK has the same problem. I would get a message notification from him and nothing would be in the message box for several minutes. Then I would reply and it would sit at 97% sent for a minute or two before it sent. It worked fine around launch but it's super slow now.

It's amazing to me that I can share my games with him from over 2000 miles but I can't send him a message without huge delays.

Still can't play MP4 videos on my PS4. Why Sony? Even Xbox now has MKV support.

PS4 is clearly not designed to be a media center, so features like that are low priority. Let's hope they can fix some of the power management issues with firmware updates, so the damn thing doesn't overheat simply by playing a video stream....

i must have a bad router too because it's exactly the same here. it takes literally minutes to receive or send a message.

it's insane! an no, it's not our ruter, that's bullshit

I'm having similar problems. The menu loads but then it just that's when I try to play the movie. They worked fine before the update... I don't get an unrecognised disc error - it just sits there on a black screen until I go back to the ps4 menu.

So, everytime I go to rest mode, the PS4 became irresponsive. No trick worked for me....

Any other in this case ?

Waiting or the fix I guess... *shrug*

Maybe because PSN works OK 95% of the time...

I don't think 95% is as good of a percentage as you think it is.

PSN has been abysmal for me compared to XBL on the 360. I have had the same problem with messages. Nothing wrong with my connection or router.

With the new updated ps app how do I add a friend?

Seemingly my only options are text, email and upload a friend chain somewhere, no option to just type an ID in....

Edit: just found it, seems you have to use the drop down list to search a player

I'm wondering if people that had unresponsive PS4s with the pulsing orange light pulled the plug and it screwed things up. I don't mean to blame the user, it's just that I don't think many people know you can hold down the power button even when it appeared to be unresponsive and it would eventually reset.

I had the pulsing orange light (after download but before the install), and mine was also completely unresponsive but I never unplugged it like that. I just did the 15 second reset thing and it then installed after booting and I've had no issues since.

Is there any way to remove the 2.0 and retry it? Has anyone tried wiping their system and redownloading it if possible?

Baby steps. How about we let the OS team get Stanby working again first. Then the networking team can hopefully have the network only going down once a month instead of once a week.

Once we have that, THEN we can look into MKV support. Microsoft's MKV via DLNA is shit anyway.

Downloading anything has been infuriating since the update. I went from downloading at a constant ~7MB/s before the update to a ~.5MB/s with sporadic bursts of my normal ~7MB/s, and then right back down to ~.5MB/s. This has easily tripled or quadrupled my download times, maybe worse. Ugh, fix this shit Sony!!

need at least 5 or more for upload.

I had to cancel the download twice haha, I'm too shook I will get a broken x struggling system after updating

I'm just gonna wait I guess
So no response or anything from Sony? Shu pls

Why do people just not use rest mode until it's patched? It seems odd that I still see people trying it out when they know there's a problem at the moment. I'm thoroughly enjoying the update myself.

Because:

1. PS4 wakes up in an instant from Rest Mode.
2. All your updates are already downloaded and installed from the Rest Mode.
3. You can have controllers being charged from the Rest Mode.

It has become an essential feature.

I only encountered the bug just one time, and I even had a disc inserted when I went into Rest Mode a 2nd time and it was all normal. I can see many here saying taking out the disc makes everything normal...

I guess the bug acts differently for everyone...

1. It take about 10 seconds to boot up from cold
2. It automatically updates when I turn it on. No biggy
3. I sit close to the TV so I've always got it plugged in.

Out of those, only 3 is a genuine problem as far as I'm concerned. It's not perfect but it's not so annoying that you'd have to continuously have problems with rest mode for. Why not wait until it's patched and 'suffer' the small inconveniences in the mean time?

I've never known a console as buggy as this. I decided to turn it on by ejecting the disk and then its stuck on the background screensaver. And yes I've done the hold the power button thing and rebooted and now its fine, but for how long who knows. The stability of this thing is really bad.

Try reapplying the update? Mine works fine.

Should I wait turning on my PS4?
Have been off for about a week when I've been away.
Can I turn it on and download games without upgrading?
Have a launch EU PS4.
Is it safe?

I think just avoid using standby/rest mode and you should be fine. That's what I've been doing and I haven't had any issues yet (aside from youtube sign-in problems).

Hm, well there goes my theory. lol. I wonder why others are having trouble with it then.
They haven't given specific speed requirements, for exactly that reason, actually. No matter what the connection is like at either end, you're still ultimately limited by everything in between, which neither you nor Sony have any control over.

Edit: That said, 500 Kbps seems like it'd be too slow.

This is really not true at all. It will only wake up instantly if the machine is downloading something while in standby mode. That has not changed from before. If it's not doing anything, it will take exactly the same time to wake up from standby as it does from a completely off state.

1. It takes longer for my PS4 to boot from a shutdown.
2. It will take time to download the updates and patches when you boot it up from shutdown vs the already downloaded and installed updates from the Rest Mode.
3. I sit close to my setup as well so I don't have an issue with that but even while sitting close, the freedom that wireless gives you, can't be beaten.

Like I said before, I only encountered it "once", after that it's been smooth smailing for me.

Wrong there buddy. I have tested this myself. PS4 wasn't downloading anything (LAN was taken out) and it booted up the same as if it was downloading something, didnt take the same time it will take from a shutdown start.

How so? Other than the lack of quality PS Plus games for PS4, I have had no complaints so far.

Notifications are pretty instant.

The actual messages and requests themselves can take anywhere from minutes to hours to be received.

NAT error in party chat when there shouldn't be one (leaving party chat and rejoining will almost always fix it).

Slow loading of store and friends lists. Sometimes FL blanks out as you scroll down.

These are my main problems.

I had a couple freezes this morning when trying to get Share Play going. I really want to try it out but have been having no luck finding someone to do it with.

Try it a few more times. I've probably waken PS4 from the 'rest' mode about 10 times now, and only once it woke up instantly. At that one time it did, I could hear the fan working louder, so clearly the console was doing something in the background (I didn't check what). Every other time it took usual 15 or so seconds to wake up, just like it did pre-2.0 system update.

Trust me, I wish I was wrong here, I was really hoping they changed the standby mode to allow for quick wakeups, but I even went and measured times using stopwatch, and it's same to the second if you power it off, vs. when you leave it in standby. Furthermore, the wakeup time from standby didn't change at all comparing 2.0 and pre-2.0 wakeup time (Again I measured with stopwatch before and after update).

Obviously standby mode is not pointless as it alows for background downloads and Vita remote play, which is great, but the startup times is not one of the things it improves.

I just picked up a PS4 and I can't get it to work with my HDMI splitter. Originally I thought it was the HDCP, but even with that turned off it still won't work. The splitter works fine with my Xbox One and PS3. Before I look into a new splitter, is there anything I can try with my current one that might help?

Maybe this isn't the best thread, but I didn't want to bump the old 1.7 thread where the HDCP toggle was added.

My system now freezes every time it's in sleep mode so I have to turn it off. :/

Try turning it on by keeping the power button down for about 5 seconds. Once in safe mode, pick option 3 to reinstall the 2.0 firmware. This might fix the issue (it's also worth a try rebuilding the database).

Even now. I don't know why anyone isn't on board with Sony trashing it's current FW team and putting in place a new more competent one.
