Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available NOW

Try turning it on by keeping the power button down for about 5 seconds. Once in safe mode, pick option 3 to reinstall the 2.0 firmware. This might fix the issue (it's also worth a try rebuilding the database).

It doesn't fix the issue, there is no fix for the issue. The only solution is to wait for 2.01 to fix it, while inevitably breaking something else.

so...since rip mode is messed up right now...what do you guys suggest for ds4 charging? i don't really want to buy a charging dock and it looks like it doesn't charge when plugged into other standard usb ports or wall chargers.

I charge my DS4 in a powered on PC when the PS4 is powered off. It should work. I also tried "standard USB chargers" and those apparently don't provide enough current.

I use my TV to charge my DS4 as well.

I was charging my controller and my PS4 went into rest/standby mode after 20 minutes. Turned it on normally like I usually do and it worked fine. So I guess it works for some still?

You know what. Hopefully this means Sony will get their shit together as far as their FW and OS team is concerned.

This current clearly isn't capable AT ALL. The fact that many people have to worry about what will be broken or bricked when a new FW is released in baffling and unacceptable.

Had a weird problem with Diablo and auto saves before. Woke the PS4 up from rest mode and played as normal. Got my auto save icon and waited for it to finish. Then went back into rest mode. Fired it up before and it's lost like an hours worth of progress. Haven't experienced it before but a real PITA.....

It sounds like it is skipping uploading your saves to the PS+ online storage, and then when the game is fired up, it overwrites your local save as if the online save is always newer. My speculation.

1. It take about 10 seconds to boot up from cold
2. It automatically updates when I turn it on. No biggy
3. I sit close to the TV so I've always got it plugged in.

Out of those, only 3 is a genuine problem as far as I'm concerned. It's not perfect but it's not so annoying that you'd have to continuously have problems with rest mode for. Why not wait until it's patched and 'suffer' the small inconveniences in the mean time?

I'm surprised people charge their controllers by plugging them into the PS4. I have the charging cable that came with the system plugged into a USB adapter next to my couch. It's far more convenient.

That fucking start up bug has made me rage this past week. I kept forgetting to Google it so every day since release I have had to hard reset my ps4 when I tried to turn it on.

My controllers charge fine using my cellphone wall charger.

he posted a follow up to the tweet. said the game in question isn't out for another few weeks. so thankfully not cod. probably not unity either.

Presumably both CoD and AC would be reviewed on Xbox, due to the marketing agreements with MS?

Got a PSN message from a friend last night. He sent it on Wednesday. :|

Considering they were behind on firmware related matters starting in 2006, and they're still having lots of problems 8 years later, they don't seem too concerned.

Gerstmann has been playing both versions of COD this weekend.

Yes it does, I've had absolutely no issue with rest mode so far.

Welp

Either GTAV or Far Cry 4 then

which would be strange for the developer to say as they have co-marketing deals with both. i don't think its either of those. there's also dragon age and wwe2k15. i can't think of anything else. could also be something smaller?

:shrugs: we'll find out when we find out i guess. could very well be non-issue by the time whatever it is launches.

True but the gaming press need to come out and talk about this as well. That would do wonders in putting the onus on Sony to finally fucking do something. No excuse for their PSN and FW and OS teams to continue to be so damn backwards.

In my experience, rest mode works in short intervals. 20min to 2hr = no problem. 3+ hour = freeze up.

I stopped using it all together now. I also had my PS4 just completely shut itself down when watching Live From Playstation for the first time ever last night.

Sony went into rest mode and it took them 5 days to wake up. Not their fault.

So true, I'm not sure why none of the gaming press is pushing the point.

So just shut down the ps4 manually? Or is there an option I need to check off?

I'm surprised this is still an issue, No doubt that many ps4s will be sold today with COD after all.

when you long press the ps button on the DS4 you have the option to enter rest mode or shut the system down completely. just shut it down completely until they fix the rest mode issue

I tend to use my phone charger (the standard android micro USB wall plug charger for HTC One Max) as I normally have one plugged in next to where I sit. I use it to charge my controller and my Sony Gold headphones as well as my phone. Works fine.
I also bought a cheap 3m USB charging cable off Amazon which works too. Hardly use that though.

I'd guess because it won't really do much. Its really doubtful that Sony is doing nothing to work on this. Press on this won't help too much when most of the people who care already know about it. The same kind of thing applies to when people say that Sony should issue a response. It won't make anything happen any faster.

(Although I really thought some gaming sites wrote about this already).

EDIT: Mark me down as one of the people who charges the DS4 with a phone charger. Micro USB is extra convenient for charging. And I have a long cord for my phone as well. I've plugged the DS4 into the PS4 probably 4 times at most.

I understand your point. It's clear Sony possibly has been working on this when reports came up.

I'm more so talking about for the future. This current FW and OS team they have in place is either lazy or incompetent.

The fact that we have to worry about a console being bricked or something messing up each and every update is inexcusable and shouldn't be tolerated.

I have no idea why this current team hasn't been scrapped and replaced by people who are more capable. Sony also needs to move their FW teams to the West in my opinion.

Let's not jump to conclusions. We don't know what they are doing and to call it lazy or incompetent is lazy and incompetent. For one, whatever slow down is going on is from Sony themselves because they are the one who are hiding their OS team. It's not like the OS team is asking to keep everything on the hush hush. Secondly, I don't know for certain if the OS team hasn't suggested anything but from what I've heard from one person on this site and a couple in the PS Blog, they have added suggestions, and yet again, Sony chooses what goes first, second and third.

So all in all, the OS team is doing their jobs, the people who employ them are not. That's the issue.

While I don't know if I would agree they are lazy, I'll get on board with them being incompetent or at the very least, quite lacking. They really do need to change something for the future, you're definitely right about that.

Scrapping an entire team at once might be harmful if the new people all have to understand the firmware at the same time. Slowly replacing the FW team or adjusting it somehow to improve it is absolutely necessary. Moving them to the West might be a good option as well. I definitely agree -- something has to change.
