This is a thing that happened.

The 28-year-old, from Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, faces hate crime charges over the video, Police Scotland said.

The clip, posted on YouTube, allegedly shows a pug sitting in front of a computer screen showing footage of Adolf Hitler.

The video, titled M8 Yer Dugs A Nazi, also includes a man, who says the pet belongs to his girlfriend, playing with the dog.

Officers said the video "caused offence and hurt to many people in our community".

A quick Google search pointed me towards this video: M8 Yer Dugs A Nazi

This racist dog just can't keep getting away with it.

How many more people are going to take the fall for this monster.

He was clearly joking. Context is key to everything. Where is your common sense?

Ironically people arresting him for such a petty thing are exalty how fascist Hitler operated.

While I do not agree he should have been arrested, it is ironic that you cite context when it is clear that you have used none in writing this.

Doing the Nazi salute just because it's Tuesday is not that funny.

I remember the video and thought maybe it was going to be his girlfriend had him arrested, which was already an insane thought.

But it's just the police arresting him for it general? That's even more absurd.

Can't see anything stopping him getting a conviction tbh even thought it's a "joke post".

Lots of questions though. The video is still up on youtube but it's against the law?

This.

Imagine if someone said "lynch the blacks?" over and over.

If they did it on South Park no-one would bat an eye.

The issue isn't whether this is offensive or tasteless, it's whether this should be arrestable, and no, it shouldn't.

Seeing as he was arrested and then released immediately without charge it makes you wonder if they just did it for punishment, which is illegal. Police Scotland are useless enough without wasting time on this sort of nonsense.

That video was bad. Not even funny. Not offensive as its a stupid man with his dog, but good lord they shouldve arrested him for making such an unfunny video.

dogs don't speak english, that stupid dog probably thinks "gas the jews?" is his name because this dildo keeps saying it to him

Of course it's in the UK. The country has been making a mockery of democratic values for quite some time; the only thing scarier than their authoritarianism is the complete and utter apathy of most of the population.

Looks like when I used to tell my dog "you wanna go for a walk?" I think he made it synonymous with that activity.

This is fucking stupid. People would laugh their arses off if something like this was in an episode of Always Sunny.

I'm not saying it's the guy's finest moment, clearly it's a stupid thing to have done. But wasting taxpayer's money arresting and processing him through the system because of him doing something moronic doesn't benefit anyone.

I don't support the arrest at all but it's pretty obvious some people would be upset at two and a half minutes of a guy training his dog to respond to "gas the Jews".

The quote says it caused offence and it also hurt people in the community. I'm wondering how this video went beyond just offending people and ended up hurting them.

It's not too far fetched to imagine this trivialization of the holocaust would be hurtful to you if you lost family members to gas chambers?
At least, that's how I read it.

This.

Imagine if someone said "lynch the blacks?" over and over.

Still shouldn't be an arrestable offense. Yeah it's pretty fucking tasteless but the guy isn't spreading a message of hate or encouraging anyone to become a fascist, he's just trying out some shock humour. The title alone makes it obvious he was joking.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A 28-year-old man was arrested on Thursday April 28 in relation to the alleged publication of offensive material online (improper use of electronic communications under the Communications Act 2003).

Seems like it's way too generic/broad. Targeted online harassment by sending people unsolicited offensive material should be criminalized. But the situation here is totally different. The viewer would have to voluntarily watch the online video.

This is like Erdogan level of nonsense. Two journalists in Turkey were recently jailed for reprinting Charlie Hebdo cartoons.

Some would say generalisation of "most of the population" would be classed as racism.

Congratulations

The quote says it caused offence and it also hurt people in the community. I'm wondering how this video went beyond just offending people and ended up hurting them.

Because the guy found a "legitimate" way in being able to utter two racist phrases in a video, over and over again for more than 2 minutes.

They should have arrested the dog, he's the one that was praising Hitler.

I don't support the arrest at all but it's pretty obvious some people would be upset at two and a half minutes of a guy training his dog to respond to "gas the Jews".

Did the pup went out and try to gas the jews ?!

Geez, this world is getting insanely offended by everything and anything.

So...there is no problem in a guy repeatedly asking "gas the jews?" for two minutes in a video. Everything is fine with this?

A guy saying gas the juice to a dog is so clearly a joke that I really don't see what the problem is.

The only problem here is that the UK thinks this is a worthy of arresting someone.

[edit]

You've now said that phrase twice, I hear if you say it three times the police show up at your door like Beetlejuice.
