Arrests like this helps fascism by giving the video attention.

Be Kind on social media or else the police will come for you? Jeez Scotland, you scary!

Strange in the country where saying "awrite ya cunt how you doing?" is an accepted social interaction between Glaswegians.

Generally speaking most of our on the street bobbies will put up with a decent amount of banter at the weekend as well... Higher ups be powering tripping and pandering to social justice.

Is antisemitism currently as big a problem in Scotland as racism towards blacks is in the South?

I don't think the answer to this question is relevant to whether joking about gassing jews is acceptable or not. For instance, as far as I know, the small nation of Mauritius does not have any noteworthy instances of racism against African Americans or antisemitism against Jews, but if a person on Mauritius was recording videos joking about gassing Jews or lynching blacks, I'd still think it's not okay.

not that I'd ever want them arrested for it, but I'd just think it's disgusting.

That said, it'd be an interesting study as to whether antisemitism in Europe is more or less prominent than racism against black people in the United States, but that's not a topic I'm touching with a 1,000 foot pole.

Yet here you are suggesting it.

The video was pretty stupid. I guess people nowadays believe the jewish genocide happened so long ago that it's ok to joke about it, but antisemitism is alive and well.

That said, getting arrested (and then released without charges) for it is stupid.

I wish UK police were consistent with their dislike for racism; perceived or otherwise. My ex-wife (Japanese) had some horrible treatment over the years, physical more than just verbal violence, and yet whenever it was reported to the police it was of little concern.

One officer dismissed her reports about a group of men chasing her into a shop door way to hurl abuse at her as being racist because “Japanese people aren't a minority around here” and this was in the South Wales valleys. A place whiter than white.

I wish that racism wasn't tolerated full stop but alas the police, like so many others, think some of it is fine and yet rain down fire on others.

Sorry to hear about that :(

No doubt what is in part happening here is the police receiving numerous complaints about this video as it went viral... As if one genuine complaint about something serious, in your case, is invalid if 1,000 people don't report it. Who knows, maybe someone high up somewhere complained as well.

Still the police should have the sense to weed through complaints, and see what is seriously concerning, and what may require more thought about before acting with cuffs. It's a dangerous precedent to set if simply getting numbers to complain means police feeling obliged to act now, ask questions later.

I guess the polis in Coatbridge have got nothing better to do these days? Didn't look like it last time I was there. I presume it's still a shitehole.

Also: the guy that posted the video is Scottish, of course he's racist.

Some would say generalisation of "most of the population" would be classed as racism.

Congratulations

I have no idea if you're being sarcastic or not but if you're actually serious it seems you don't know what the words generalization or racism mean if you think accusing most of the population of apathy classifies as that. Sorry if you're being sarcastic but given the recent political climate I honestly can't tell anymore.

Limmy is having his own weird comedy take on this just now @DaftLimmy

More comedians in the UK are sure to pick up on it as well.

so to sum up someone got arrested because people's feeling were hurt...?

Pretty much but the Scottish police have used it as a catalyst to go all in and basically say beware of us guys, we won't tolerate "hate speech" or members of a community feeling offended.

hope there isnt a lot of Satire in Scotland then

Well we will see what is going to happen next. If the police don't arrest similar cases then surely this guy can sue for feeling targeted.

There's bound to be tons of Scots doing stupid shit on YouTube. This one was just easy pickings for the police as it went viral.

Pretty much sums this up

That's incredible that the Nazi pug guy actually got arrested. You could say it's deeply insensitive and offensive, but ILLEGAL?

I wonder how it would have went down if he had told the story of it in a comedy club. Would he still be arrested? Are professionals exempt?

An illegal joke. There didnae seem to be any hatred in it, any incitement to hatred or violence. It was deeply offensive, therefore illegal.

It scares me to think of a world where you have to explain why you're joking about something terrible. Cos I cannae explain it.

Sat in front of a stony faced officer asking you if you think cancer is funny or addiction is funny or dying is funny or funny is funny.

This is improper use of electronic communications under the Communications Act 2003. lets not claim its Outrage culture gone mad and start throwing briebart links around.

Unfortunately the UK government has a tendancy to infringe on civil liberties like this. this guy should not be getting in legal trouble of this. its not enticing violence or abuse, its jsut a dumb tasteless joke.

The fuck?!
its like the police saw people saying "we need legal recourse against people holding organised harassment campaigns" and decided that anyone being mean on the internet breaks the law :/

just how, the utter incompetence.
