I sometimes refer to myself as an asshole, because I'm not always the most polite person. I can also be darkly humorous, and not always in the right context.

But then threads like these remind me that the scumbag competition is stiff and I'm barely a blip on the radar. I mean, it's almost unbelievable that someone would write something like this on a receipt.

Holy shit at you guys taking Gonzalez to task for giving no tip. It's like you guys have never had atrocious service before. Everyone asking why he didn't just ask his server, have you not run into a situation where your server straight up ignores your table? I've given shit/no tips before, but it's only been when I've gotten _really_ bad service. I've had service where I waited 15-20 minutes before being asked for a drink order, when the dining room isn't remotely close to full, and being checked on maybe once through the whole meal. Like, I usually tip pretty well, around 20+%, but if your attitude is basically that you want nothing to do with me, then shit, I want nothing to do with you either.

I don't understand why people leave passive-aggressive messages on receipts. If you have a problem with the service (not saying this is the case here, but it's becoming a trend), you should let your server know upfront, or the manager. People who feel like they have to justify their lousy tipping with a snide comment after the fact is kind of pathetic.

It's a really easy way to be a dick, albeit cowardly. Some people love the easy chance to be a dick to somebody.

Unfortunately for the non-tipper in this case, it was not anonymous.

The assumption isn't that the racist asshole is White (though let's be real, odds are they are) but rather that the sever and many of the people who might be employed at this Thai restaurant aren't White. That is to say why would this racist asshole eat at a location (that specializes in food from a foreign culture no less) that has a high probability of employing a lot of people who aren't White if they hate non-White people?

I would assume a lame attempt at a power trip. He had these people serve him and then insulted them and stiffed them. Sounds logical to me from the standpoint of someone like him.

Is not getting a refill for your nth glass of water that night really something that qualifies as "atrocious service"? Maybe if he was dangerously dehydrated and asked the waiter five times already about his constant watering needs, and they told him to fuck off, then yeah, no tip.

Have you not read any of the replies to what he did? We're saying "don't leave pissy little notes as a tip," not "you should feel bad for leaving a low tip."

I don't think a single person said what you're claiming.

what a POS. glad his name is out there for everyone to shame him.

Sort of unrelated, but I once wrote "Next time fill my glass more than once" where I was supposed to write the tip.

don't write that passive-aggressive shit in the tip line. sometimes waiters are busy serving other people and might forget to refill drinks. it happens. just request a refill when you need it instead of just sitting there.

It's still a lot better that they understand one of the issues I had with their service, instead of just leaving without tipping.

Plus, I don't like heated public confrontations.

I'm not sure if your original post was real and since you've been criticized so heavily you decided to move into joke character territory or if it was a joke all along.

So you didn't actually ask for any of the things you wanted and you want them to know what they did wrong but not in a way that would involve speaking to them directly, so let's leave a passive aggressive note instead after leaving them with the impression that everything is fine since you never said otherwise.

Can you not see why people think this sounds shitty?

"Excuse me, may I get a refill on my water?"
"Of course! Sorry about that."
"Great, thank you!"

It's only heated if you make it that way deliberately -- like, you know, leaving a shitty passive aggressive comment.

It's only a big deal only to the person who doesn't ask to get what they want. When she comes by just ask for a refill. Or, tell the manager. Or ask a passing waiter. It nothing at all. But you rather sit there helpless with bad blood.

Nah, you just were too lazy to call them over.

Had you called them and had they neglected you, fine. Instead you took the asshole-that-runs-away way out

Was it at a place you'll never eat at again? I'm overly nice at restaurants because the last thing I'd ever want to do is give people a reason to fuck with my food.

It happened a couple of years ago, and it was at a Cracker Barrel. I've never been back since.

I know it sounds shitty, but it's way better than leaving racist, or mean spirited remarks.

Your comment was mean-spirited. It wasn't helpful; your server isn't going to look at the check and think to themselves, "Wow, I really did drop the ball on the refills, thanks for the advice!" they'll just think you were being a dick and move on.

I don't to see it that way. It's common criticism. Is it an unusual way to deliver it? Yes it is... But that isn't mean spirited. I didn't avoid tipping, and leaving that message because I was getting revenge. I did it to give her advice on how to better her service.

Agreed. When that happens I give them racial epithets so they know how they took too long to refill my ice tea. I'm not racist because because I attack all races equally.

He paid by credit card and left that?

Oh well, his name is out there now to feel the unbridled fury of the Internet.

Yeah a bad tip or no tip for poor service is fine. Leaving those shitty notes makes you an asshole. Man up and tell the person what you are thinking instead of whining in writing like a little bitch.

Guys it's ok, I didn't leave a fucked up racist remark so it's ok.

The delivery IS what makes it mean-spirited. If you wanted more water, you should have asked for it like an adult.

So correct me if I'm wrong l, but I always thought that a work Visa meant that you were NOT an illegal alien and were coming through the front door and trying to immigrate here "the right way." So it just seems to me like this dude is just a racist prick of the highest order

So you want to eat at a restaurant that serves foreign food, yet don't want immigration in your country, but not only that, you also use your credit card to pay so that whoever handles the bill can attribute a name to such stupidity. Wow.

Glad he was identified. Shaming fuckwits like this seems to be the only way they'll learn... if they're even capable of learning, anyway.
