Seriously, how in the fuck is a $30,000 decision even possible, legally?

The award is almost 1000x more than he originally paid for the thing. That's not a simple loophole.

I hope word gets out about this and people around the country start suing this dick. Fight fire with fire.

The rage that would fill my body if someone did this to me... I sure hope the appeal by the state goes through and knocks this crap down. Really makes you think about the little things you do in life and transactions you make how something as simple as a damn printer could turn into this...

Seems the judgement was over turned but the guy is looking to appeal it
Costello, who owns a forensic accounting business, appealed the ruling. On March 23, the appeals court issued a sharply worded 13-page opinion in his favor.

Nepotism? Shady backroom dealings? The judge just being a sadistic P.O.S.?

Seriously. Even if the judge had to rule against him for not showing up in court, couldn't he have ruled just for the cost of the printer + shipping? That amount is nuts.

Dude didn't show up to court or respond

You should read the actual article, Costello already showed up for several different litigations brought up against him from this guy, so he has a history of not ignoring it. Now he's claiming he never received the summons in this specific case, so I tend to believe him.

Can we send this fucker back to the Ukraine?

I can't believe he lives in my city...well, technically the city my city is a suburb of, but you know what I mean.

And his main income is probably through the manipulation of your legal system and getting judgements like this. He's a parasite.

Is there no limit to the amount of lawsuits you can claim? Can't they do him for wasting the courts time or something?

Sounds like the guy needs evaluating. He's potentially ruining other peoples lives with this behaviour.

Litigation DDOS lolol

Seriously.

Shouldn't the court system reach a point where they just begin ignoring all suits brought by this party against the other? Can you just keep suing someone forever no matter how many times you lose?

Can I just sue everyone in America and collect money when they don't respond to the summons?

The lesson here appears to be don't ignore any court proceedings, no matter how bogus they are.

People like this are the worst though. There's currently a guy who is going around to small businesses in Austin and suing them for ADA violations. Two problems though: 1) none of the businesses have any proof that the guy ever came into their businesses, and 2) he's not even looking for them to fix the issues--he's looking for settlements of up to $7K a piece to make the lawsuit go away.

The guy had sued over 400 businesses in one year, as of last November.

Apparently, yes to all of the above.

Yep. It's so easy to fuck with the court system. My wife's Ex represents himself and sued me twice. We are always in court with the idiot. He came after us recently for keeping his son away from him. Never mind he served jail time, hasn't even tried to contact his Son for 4 years, and hasn't paid a dime. It's absurd!

Wow. I hope this backfires in the end and that piece of shit loses all of his fortune and ends up homeless. Mother fucker.

Zavodnik sounds like a total human piece of shit. Like he should be the picture in a dictionary for one. Hopefully something terrible happens to him financially and he loses all his money so he can get some karma.

Also the judge is a piece of shit for fucking over this guy's life and buying into Zavodnik's bullshit. If the internet was just theyd start a campaign for him to resign.

Some judges will throw out crap. When my wife's Ex sued me a second time and my job I went pro se (like him) and the judge laughed and threw his lawsuit out.

Any one can play lawyer and drown you with lawsuits and each one had to be heard. Yeah, its fucked!

Im amazed none of his victims have sued him back. Every time he files a suite, find a way to counter it for the same amount. Fight fire with fore till he makes a mistake and gets burned.

Another article (from 2013) about this lunatic: http://www.indystar.com/story/news/2014/10/01/frequent-filer-represents-lawsuits/16529047/

That doesn't keep him from filing more, often asking for astronomical damages. In a case where a woman reneged on an agreement to buy digital camera equipment, he is now seeking $1.2 million in damages. Sometimes he even asks for attorney fees.

Zavodnik's brash, over-the-top behavior has prompted a growing number of judges to remove themselves from his cases the minute they land in their courts. Others have called armed security guards to escort him out of their courtrooms.

Superior Judge David Dreyer said Zavodnik asked for him to step down from a case because of alleged bias. The judge says he will not take any other cases involving Zavodnik if they land in his court.

"With his frequent filing and claims of bias," he says, "I don't think I could be fair."

At some point, Dreyer said, there may be no judges left in Marion County willing or able to hear Zavodnik's cases.

"Eventually, if he continues like he is," the judge explains, "it will be something the Supreme Court will have to address."
