So, kind of like Liar Game?

I still have yet to read a manga more overtly convoluted in its explanations. WE DON"T GIVE A DAMN, jesus, just move on already.

At least in Liar Game they explain logical (or something like that) ways of setting traps and strategies and you can say "ok, it seems plausible". With 20thCB you really have some hard times just believing what you just read.

Has anyone here even read glass mask?

I've read and re-read it *dramatic blank stare*

It's sooo good, but it really needs to end. The sooner the better. The quality has been quite inconsistent in the last volumes (the latest are getting a little better, even though the high points of the first half won't be reached). I'm in for a very disappointing end, but the ride was well worth the price.

It's classic shojo material, thus pretty predictable, but the theatre setting really gives it a boost. It's similar to the effect Classical Music has on Nodame Cantabile (which is much more light-hearted than GM).

I feel Suzue Miuchi simply isn't able to decide which girl has to win. Both Maya and Ayumi have become such strong presences afterall, though I seem to remember she said she was gonna end it soon, or something.
I still have to read volume 48 well (only skimmed it) and 49 entirely (it's stil sitting in the pile) though.

Huh, I'm still waiting for translations on the chapters after the hiatus.

The theater aspect is what made me love it though. The romance is whatever but the drama that comes from being actors and quite possibly a bit of insanity makes it pretty fun.

Epic ending. Total victory for Zenkichi and that kiss omg.

Oh wait there's still more chapters yay!

Also having a character in a manga believing they are in a manga, trying to kill themselves to escape the manga, is one of the most unique things I've seen in manga.

My Girl v05 (end)
It's really admirable how fast Koharu was able to cope with Katagiri going to be the new mom even though she still loves her mother so much. Katagiri's also done a great job trying to fit in without the intention to replace Youko entirely. Masamune was the slowest to adapt but that's not exactly a huge surprise. I'm glad it turned out ok in the end even though Koharu running away seemed a little forced to me.
All in all, it was a very nice read, pretty similar to a Usagi Drop without the timeskip and with Daikichi hooking up with Kouki's mother.
I'm going to check out every other manga from Mizu Sahara, I like all that I've read from her (Voices of the Distant Star and The Place Promised in Our Early Days are excellent anime to manga adaptions, Watashi-tachi no Shiawase na Jikan is one of my favorite manga of all time even though I'm still not in the mood to read it for a second time, so fucking depressing). I really adore her art as well, especially the watercolored artworks.

Miss Mayple's Afternoon Tea Time

This was a nice series with nice art, a nice story and a nice ending. It was just a really nice series in general. I would have liked it to have had some more chapters but I'm also glad it didn't outstay it's welcome. I've been on a role with good series recently so I hope Hikaru no Go doesn't dissapoint.

In Suzue Miuchi's world, the word 'soon' has a quite undefined meaning :D
The two main plots (
Crimson Goddess and the love story
) are wrapping up, but we will probably have at least 2 (or 3) volumes showing us the final showdown.

Tower of God 82-95

I regret ever saying this new guy reminded me of Androssi. He started off as looking like a badass that wanted to take over the Zahard reign, but he turned out to just be a more whiny Leesoo.

Not really sure how I feel about the sudden switch to focus more on the 10 (royal?) families. In part it's kind of cool to have this feuding and backstory amung the families but at the same time it makes people who aren't in the families seem weaker and less important. You see so many different types of regulars that seem like different types of beings but then most of the 10 families are all basic humans. Plus how many characters are going to be part of the Koon family? We're at like 4 somewhat important people that are from the Koon family so far?

Am I missing something with the random bits of Rachel/Lahel? At first I thought it was implying that one of the people in the new group is her in disguise, but I think I just miss understood a panel or two.

Their both different age groups? Guess Ill start a chapter of both today maybe.

I wonder if you'll like REAL...

I completely dropped Kuroko's Basket since I started Slam Dunk and REAL. Kuroko's Basket seems so... I don't know. There's a serious lack of good characters and the main team is not even likeable, I just don't care if they loose or win their matches. Maybe I should read more chapters but so far it's pretty tedious. And the humor is pretty mediocre, too.

Who are the characters in 1, 4, 6, 7 and 8? I know Ichigo, Kabuto and the Sauceruto one. The file name no longer tells me. PEACE.

Zebra, Kurosawa, Onishiba, Speedwagon and Yoh.

I'll revert em back to sta.sh images where the filenames are proper once sta.sh stops being annoying. The names aren't readable cause I had to resort to imgur.

Awesome job as always. Zebra looks great.
Surprised you haven't been tagged yet.

Not in the slightest. There are only 2 characters who i found likable in the whole manga. Alfonse, and Izumi. The way that Ed got Al´s body by finding another door was extremely shitty, and massive cop out. Fighting against father has not resulted in direct deaths, other than Hohenheim. For a manga that it took death very seriously and centered around sacrifice, it was a huge joke. The mass resurrection after defeating father felt more like Pain bringing everyone back to life in Naruto which was worse than Naruto since FMA take these kind of stuff much more seriously. I don´t find FMA average to be contrarian, i find it average all of these elements and the fact that only 2 characters that i found appealing. Because for me character>plot. If i cannot connect with the characters the plot can the best in the world but it won´t be much interesting to me.

Thanks neorice-dono for the avy, its awesome.

Of all the sports series Ive encountered I guess this one has just had a not so good start. So depressing and tragic, the main character Nomiya, is pretty much a failure and is so awful, why no friends or nothing, and why having barely any skills? Character designs aren't so great either, I guess Togawa is kind of alright to some extent. Its just too real. Perhaps if there is development or something or if it gets happier? May continue reading it...as the one on one seemed decent, though Nomiya was awful at it.

I'm still here and yes I read the recent chapters of Big Three. The grades are A, B, and F for last week.

The year in review:

One Piece - C

This year we got the closure of the Fishman Island arc, which was given a solid ending with tidbits that really pushed story porn buttons. Now we're on the Punk Hazard arc, which had a very promising start and got a lot of people excited for One Piece again.

But on the flip side I cannot ignore how slow paced One Piece has been lately. It isn't the content itself, it's the execution that is lacking. It isn't really the paneling, cause honestly if you find that a problem you shouldn't even be touching the comic medium (Protip: panels with lots of stuff happening is a good thing). It's really how the story is progressing.

One can argue that One Piece has always been about slowly developing it's story through it's arcs, and while that's true you have to take in consideration what One Piece was compared to what One Piece is now. One Piece is at a point where we're getting resolution; back when One Piece was new it was completely appropriate to setup the world with lots of mysteries. In Fishman Island arc, we got resolution for Arlong that tied the story together and gave closure. And then you got Punk Hazard, which is more story porn after story porn with a mix of a shitload of random new characters that they themselves will end up having to get some form of story closure in the future. So when these arcs are being read all it's giving is the readers more questions, and after 15+ of publication that does get pretty old as people are expecting to get more answers than more questions.

Punk Hazard as an arc would've probably been better received if we learned such things like how Devil Fruit are created, how Blackbeard got two powers, and maybe even explain some things about Kuma. Instead we got a bunch of new characters with solid appearances by Law, Smoker, and Tashiji + a shitload of questions still not answered.

Bleach - D

Bleach has been pretty much as mediocre has it's always been. The current arc is going at a decent pace but that really doesn't fix a lot of the fundamental problems the series still has.

The closure of the Fullbringer arc was just shit. The latest arc is already riddled with pointless twists and made one of the most badass characters in the manga look like a weakling. And now we're in the midst of ANOTHER training arc, cause that's what Bleach really needs right now.

All the problems One Piece suffers from, Bleach suffers from twice fold. At least One Piece tries to insert some story progress. In the past year, what exactly have we learned about any established backstory in the series? You can give very few answers to that question while with something like One Piece there's still a lot of storytelling actually going on in the madness.

One thing I'll give Bleach props for is that it seems like Kubo actually is trying to improve. The pacing is a lot better than it was in the infamous Arrancar Saga. Even the Fullbringer arc was better paced than that shit, so I will commend them for that.

Naruto - F

Naruto continues to be one of the lowest quality manga on the market. Even though Sasuke has played a very small role in the current war, his stench is too strong not to notice on everything else this manga has to offer.

Let's see...Tobi's identity reveal was done poorly, with a backstory that made no sense and won't make sense even after it's properly explained; fanfiction NarutoxHinata shit; Uchiha = god (still...); amongst other garbage. I really appreciate that Kishimoto spends hours writing and drawing this every week just so I can see a part of my early fandom sodomized by this garbage. I meant every word I said about Naruto this year, this shit is bad.

Naruto, like One Piece, got worse than better. The manga itself was shit in the first place so to go down like this, especially since we're nearing the end of the manga, is just awful. How can someone even remember the good parts in Naruto if most of the pages of the entire manga are full of garbage characters, garbage art, and garbage writing?
_____________________

I really wish I could say I've read more manga. It really hurts being a casual manga-fan and you got everyone around me in this thread reading all of these series. Maybe 2013 will be the year of manga for Big One, then I can prove to you guys that I actually do enjoy reading more manga than the Big Three.
This is a very academic sounding "This series gets an F-; I quit; see you next week." (well okay, "garbage writing this is shit" isn't academic, but it has more words than "this series gets an F-; I quit; see you next week.")

I also like the nice touch of complaining Naruto was the lowest quality manga on the market and then mentioning you only read the Big Three (i.e. the three most popular series in the most popular children's magazine) in the same breath. I mean, I'd love to give ya the benefit of the doubt here, but you've been posting in the last three or four of these threads and have consistently never read anything other than the Big Three, so I have to imagine pretty much too late to convince anyone you actually read anything else.

I think it led to one of the best fights in the entire series and one of narutos best speeches.

All of Naruto's speeches are the same thing.

While there are parts of the recent arc that I really do like, a part of me thinks that things could have ended with the Zenkichi Box arc.

Then again, he so swag now.
