I hope the game's a decent length. That's the only thing I can see going wrong for the game at the moment. Well, I guess the soundtrack could suck.

Isn't it out in Japan this year?

i would be so much more excited about this game if it used conventional controls. it looks strong enough to stand on its merits as a platform game.

God, are you still against these controls? By all accounts, the bongos make the game even more fun than it would be without them. I don't see why you wouldn't want to use them (except for a cost issue I suppose).

i don't really want to get into it again, but i'd rather deal with challenges posed by game design than challenges posed by deliberately inappropriate controls. the effect of the bongo control is interesting, but i didn't enjoy it. i'll probably check it out anyway. just to get some more use out of the bongos.

Ah yes, I remember the conversation vividly now. Good times.

Yeah, let's not go there again.

whats up with mixed bag visuals ? are nintendo even trying anymore... game will fun in the end and I guess thats what matters.

just watched the video and this game looks great. the one-on-one battles could be a ton of fun. anybody play that portion of the game at e3? i'm assuming you would have to follow input commands...

Care to explain your concerns more?

I remember fighting another gorilla at E3. When he wound up you had to hit both bongos to dodge, then alternate to pummel him.

or here's an idea: how about nintendo keeps EDGY NEW INTERACTIVE SOFTWARE with REVOLUTIONARY INTERFACE MECHANISMS on the IN YOUR FACE NINTENDO DS, while putting boring old playable games with good controls on the boring old gamecube. it'd free you from the YOKE of CONTROL PAD CONFORMITY, and it'd free me from shitty games that try too hard. we'd all be happier, i think.

wow. i thought everyone was raving about this game after going hands-on with it at e3? is this just drohne's opinion or is there a general consensus that dk:jb is weak--not to mention hampered by a revolutionary interface mechanism?

and anihawk, what happened to you? you used to be a very vocal supporter of nintendo. since they haven't done as well in the marketplace as you'd hoped, you've sold your gamecube? it's all over?

eh.. why is DS in this thread? Is it coming to DS? Thanks for the headsup Drohne... It isn't? WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU ON?

no, consensus is still that jungle beat rocks. i can't remember if there's anyone on this board who agrees with me, actually.

I completelly agree with you Drohne.

Anyways I thought the game gave you the chance to play using standard controls.

Everybody (myself included) that played the game pretty much agree it rocks from a gameplay standpoint and from a graphical standpoint as well.

This seriosly is a great, great game flawlessly executed. If it is long enough an varied enough, you've got an AAA quality product right here.

Zuh? This is one of the prettiest-looking GC titles I've seen yet.

I'm pretty sure it does, yeah.

that just introduces a new problem, i.e. having to play a rare platformer. :(

anyway, i'll be thrilled if jungle beat lets you use plain old regular controls. by which i do not mean "a crude pad emulation of the bongo controls." 1. it'd be awesome, and 2. it'd expose the asinine, uncomprehending argument that bongo controls in a platformer are actually more intuitive.

Intuitive is not the argument, just well-implemented and fun. For example, you want to complete the level rather than just saying "Why am I moving DK with drums?"

You can use a regular GC controller for the game, as far as I know.

Nintendo, please stop innovating.

Well, the mini-games in Donkey Konga were turd on a stick in terms of controls, so I'm not holding out much hope for this one. When will people learn that 'innovation' is not always something that makes for good games.

When it, you know, stops being good in some games.

New peripheral being used in a platformer FOR THE FIRST TIME is Innovation. Incredibly positive impressions from 90% of people at E3 can qualify it as a potential "good game".

Funny how these new studios are just making more games of the same franchises. Nintendo should a leaf out of EA.
