Donkey Kong Bananza Previews

I'm going to assume the next Mario will be out when the movie comes out.

I am surprised they couldn't get the camera right, if you know you're going underground you need to rethink the camera.

If it hasn't been said, the reason why they didn't announce it was the Odyssey team making this right off the bat because Nintendo remembers how pissy the internet got when it announced a new Donkey Kong. "Retro's resources were being used making eFFing Donkey being?! How insulting."

Now we got Mario's time and resources allocated to Donkey Kong. Ultimately now that everyone is all in the coast is clear to announce the developers.

Still I will say this, I doubt this is all they've been working on all this time since Odyseey or Bowsers Fury. I bet there are multiple teams now composed of Odyssey developers.

The "Odyssey team" basically just means that EPD Tokyo are the primary developers and like all of their projects they'll have help from other studios. They were doing some massive hiring about 5 years ago so likely have a few things running in parallel.

It'll be interesting to see if they release their highest profile 3D platformers in back to back years or let DK keep the spotlight for a little while.

It's really refreshing to have some exclusives to play that are not on PC or coming for PC. Honestly I feel I made the right choice buying a switch 2 . Been really having so much fun with Mario kart and fast fusion and then there is donkey kong .

My 5090 is collecting dust as of late and not because I don't have games to play. My backlog is unlimited almost. But it's just fun to play on tv sometimes or portable some games that I can't play on pc and actually fun to play with decent graphics . I like the cartoonish graphics Nintendo goes for. They stand against the time as they grow older, then don't look ugly to play 10 years from now.

I just realised the game drops the exact day I have a 12 hour flight to our vacation spot.

Now the dilemma - do I take the switch in hand luggage and play this on portable or wait 14 days to return home and play it in full glory on the TV?

Nah, it means they can make Astro Bot 2 and just carbon copy Donkey Kong just like how they did Odyssey with the first one.
Astro Bot is nothing like Odyssey, it's purely level based compared to Odyssey which was open ended level design. Did you actually play Astro Bot???

Team ASOBI right now:

Team ASOBI is almost certainly more excited to play the new DK than anyone here. More than any other developer, they deeply appreciate a fantastic 3D platformer.

You just don't make something as good and as polished as Astro Bot without being a gigantic fan of flagship Nintendo games. Those guys get it.

Game looks like an easy >92 to me.

Too many people here are trying to dismiss Astro Bot as a cheap knock-off. Focus on Donkey Kong instead.

So far I'm not exciting or very interested in this game. I didn't like Odyssey a whole lot and this game also isn't clicking with me much. I don't like the art style, and the Odyssey-like game design isn't what I like much in a platformer (though this does look it is improving upon that game design a bit). But atm I don't think I'll be buying it any time soon, if ever.

can't wait , no more spoilers now till launch. i finally completed the main part of odyssey on switch 2 and it looked great, so if a new Mario is a while off id be happy with a mario 64 remake , peaches castle looks great in odyssey the nod to 64 was cool so thats next to work through before this drops.

having just completed wonder, i enjoyed odyssey more and the ending was a lot better.

i just completed first play of oddessy and found the camera in that was weird at times even trying to just center it , it never always worked. so i guess it carry's over then in this game but hopefully it's better.

Astro Bot is more like Mario Galaxy. No doubt Astro Bot copied aspects off various Nintendo platformers, but I am 99% sure Donkey Kong Bananza isn't the first game with destructible environments. TOTK was quite obviously inspired by the dozens of games that allow you to build things.

yeah I am sure that is the case, lol.

Insecurity man. That game really broke them. I think many Nintendo fanboys think that it should only be Nintendo that make great platformers.
Team Asobi must be doing something very right, that it makes Nintendo fanboys feel threatened at least
Well, I like some Nintendo games, I think they can make great stuff when they really want to. And I liked Odyssey well enough.

But when I bought Astrobot it seemed so incredibly obvious to me that it was a lightweight Mario ripoff with a tiny dash of Pikmin and a Sony paint of coat. I got about halfway through and decided I was good. There wasn't anything new to experience, so it certainly wasn't worth the time to continue. I don't know if it's defensiveness but I've seen my share of Sony "fanboys" gushing over Astrobot who have ripped games like Mario to shreds. You can't have it both ways. And even Asobi knows. When they won that game of the year award they got up there and thanked Nintendo profusely (lol). I mean, come on ...

Sony can absolutely make great platformers. Anyone can. They should just try to use their own ideas.

Nah, the Industry should absolutely thank Sony for laying the ground work for 3D Platformers in general with Jumping Flash!
Sony is a huge pioneer in the genre afterall. Astro has plenty of original ideas, or this is a "Astro can jump, so it copies Mario" tier comment.

I don't know why Astro Bot even in this topic? DK Bananza plays nothing like Astro Bot.

Why the fuck people like bring their stupid ass fanboyism in every fucking threads?

Bruh. You Nintendo fanboys act so weird towards Astro Bot. The insecurity is hilarious. That game really broke ya'll . 😂
It was a gorgeous game, but incredibly basic in its jumping and platforming mechanics. It doesn't hold a candle to Mario games in that regard. But I think the studio will just get better and better at this genre and Astro Bot 2 will probably be awesome.

Fear. I guess some hardcore Nintendo fanboys are afraid the new DK won't garner the same critical acclaim as Astro Bot, so they speak Ill of it saying it's a rip off apparently

I dont give a fuck about reviews, DK Bananza looks super fun and thats all the reason I need to play it, same reason why I played Astro Bot.

Nobody cares about niche game like Astroboy. A new DK game by Odyssey team that sold 30 million copies(mostly at full price) and not free give away bundle like Astro bot is something to celebrate for real gamers.

You pretending that DK(I love the Games but this is facts) was ever a big seller in Mario vein is weird to me. DK range is 2-3 million(the WIiU tropical freeze even selling less than that). That is Astro Bot range and that IP is almost completely new at that

Also for a game that supposedly nobody "seems" to care about, I see it brought up so many times in Mario/DK/Nintendo platformer threads, the last months, by Nintendo fanboys nonetheless 🙄
